Thank you so much Gena! I have learned so much from your tutorials. Between you and Curlsmith, my curls have never looked better. At 64, I am finally beginning to get a handle on how to care for my curls and make them last for several days. I too am a data nerd. Love the assessment tools! Thanks again!
Too funny when you mention California as being constantly mild weather and consistent humidity. I travel from Pasadena (very dry) to Hermosa Beach (very humid) a few times per week, and my hair freaks out and frizzes up with every trip. I sometimes wish I had San Gabriel Valley hair to switch with beach cities hair. LOL!!
I am 63 and thanks to you I was able to transition my silver gracefully. Just like you my crown is more course so I finger coil. I notice when I use CS heat protection I can’t use curl cream it get over moisturizer. So I use heat protection and gel or curl cream and gel. Exited to used the tracker. Appreciate all the hard work you’ve done ❤
What a totally cool tracker! I have been trying to track more, but I either don't have enough room on a calendar, or I forget to write it down. I do much better with digital. Thanks for taking the time and energy to do this!
Love the tracker! I've been doing my own version on a google calendar for years. It's very useful to have a visual reference. I enjoy tracking products used and styling techniques. I know when to clarify, deep condition, do a protein treatment and get a trim. Thank you Gena!
Thank you for explaining in great details the reasons for the changes we experience with our curls very wash day and on a daily basis as well. Also, for the new tracker resource.
Hi Gena! Fantastic video and congratulations on your new launch! :) How would you compare this Curl Keeper brush with the Tangle Teezer? Do you prefer one over the other? Or are they pretty similar so unnecessary to have both? Thanks!!!
Thank you! They're different. The Tangle Teezer is better at styling and the Curl Keeper is better at detangling. I don't use brushes to detangle though. The Curl Keeper is more flexible so won't give much tension at all, which is why I'm using it some because I'm trying to minimize tension on my hair from brush styling. If you have the Tangle Teezer, you don't need the Curl Keeper brush.
Hello, thank you for all this advice, my curls are the story of my life hahhaha a very long process. I have tested so many products and you are right, every day our curls are different. Very good day 😄😃😃
This is so helpful, Gina! Thank you for all the effort you put into these videos. My hair is very temperamental. Fine and porous. I'm going to try more protein products and see if that helps. I just haven't paid attention, but this causes me to consider what might be going on. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the comprehensive video! I have been transitioning for a 14 months and still don't know what really works and does not. My biggest struggle is the front face framing pieces that don't seem to hold a curl or are pretty flat at the root. I've tried more and less products, different techniques and I still struggle with this. Same with the hair in the back/nape of my neck, but those don't bother me as much since they are not as visible. Looking forward to using the guide to see if documenting will help me better understand. Thanks for taking the time to put something like this together!
There are products that have pre shampoo treatments in their line my question is Do you use a oil prepoo before using a preshampoo? How does the bonding preshampoo compare to olaplex#3 ? That would be a good video for you to show us. I like the Garnier frutis filler line. Thank you for all the tips on curly hair.
Congrats on your first product. As an Excel user, I can appreciate all you work in creating the finished product. Will definitely be checking into this. Love how open you are to feedback. Have a great week. Also, would you be interested in reviewing Bong Bar products? They don’t have a gel but the do have a cream.
Mostly, but I will occasionally just a product with silicone for humidity protection or to help with damage. I don't like a lot of my products to have them though
Don't remember if u have answered this before. But I'm not sure when I should stop diffusing. My hair is thin and high porosity so it dries very fast. So like my hair will have a cast be dry and starting to create frizz but it isn't dry like how it would normally be once I'm done diffusing if that makes sense. I usually diffuse 10-15 mins and my curls only last about a day and then get all stretched out and frizzy. I've used almost every product and followed so many styling tips that I think that the issue is I'm diffusing wrong. Any advice would be great 😊
Sounds like your gel isnt strong enough if you're getting frizz, or you're diffusing improperly. I have some videos on diffusing I can link: th-cam.com/video/ALGhMvz5GdQ/w-d-xo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB th-cam.com/video/QW_5Wb7Uw8M/w-d-xo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB
So I have a huge issue with my hair feeling very dry the next day and frizzy. I’ve used everything curl smith as instructed and still my hair is a mess. I’m more in between wavy and curly and I’m at wits end.
For my hair specifically, yes, the top is more damaged. It's very common. This is because it's exposed to more wear and tear and the elements such as the sun. The lower section stays protected underneath and picks up oils from our skin.
@@StormyDayI think you are thinking of the strand of hair which would get more damaged on the ends but @genamarie is talking about the outer hair versus the underneath hair if that makes sense.
@@SavageSoulMade Not really. My hair gets windswept more there, but it’s not damaged. Just drier at times. The oils from the scalp should solve that problem, and oh, btw, so will brushing it. If that hair is damaged, it’s damaged all the way down. Sounds more like over-handling of the area, too much gel there or not applying the appropriate amount of leave in conditioner to the area, which some people with curly hair will do-meaning the texture of the hair, i.e., coarse hair in that area needs more condition than the rest of the hair, but it may interfere with curling ability so people won’t put the amount of moisture there needed because it will be flat.
@@GenaMarie how can the top be more damaged if you do not cut layers? Because that hair doesn’t miraculously repair itself as it gets longer. It’s not more damaged. It’s just drier. The oils on the scalp would help far more.
@@StormyDay I believe we are talking about 2 different things. I was referring to the top section of hair versus the lower section which is against my neck, not the roots versus the ends. My top section is more damaged because it has more wear and tear and is exposed to the sun and the elements. It is most damaged on the ends of the top section as the hair is older. This is very obvious when I go product-free. It also dries very quickly and is frizzy and dried out without product.
I am so excited to launch the Curly Hair Tracker & Planner! Download it here: genamarie.co/product/curly-hair-tracker-planner/

Nice, Gena, I didn’t know you live in VA!
I’m in VA Beach and I grew up in Roanoke.
Can’t wait to check out your Tracker!!

Haha that’s so crazy! I just meant the weather is known to be similar every day on average 😊 in VA, one day it’s dry and one day it’s humid lol!

LOL I do the same (and enjoy tracking all that too) but I use a notebook.
I thought I was being weird tracking all that stuff.
That's great!
Haha its so helpful!

This is fantastic Gena, thank you so much and well done!! Really looking forward to checking out your planner!
Thank you so much!

Thank you!
My hair is fine and low density. I have used the aphogee protein treatment and added a protein gel. It's helped me a lot.

Your curls turned out really pretty! Have you tried the AG Curl Fresh Definer's new formula yet? If so, how does it compare to the old formula?
Not yet but they sent it to me! I just need to test it
The curl keeper brush and the unbrush look the same. Is there any major difference?
I haven’t tried the Unbrush but it looks the same to me
You are a genius!!😮🎉👍💕

If a product is a pre-shampoo treatment, I don't typically use an oil. I will have to test the Garnier more to compare it to Olaplex

Thank you! I have their bond repair treatment and just need to test it!
Goooo Nor Cal!!!! It’s always foggy-ishhhh - cool in Monterey bay!!
Haha i should have clarified Southern California
Do you use products that is silicone, sulfate and paraben free?

Could it be that you just don't have enough hold so you're seeing frizz the next day? This sometimes presents as what people think it "dryness"
Genamarie, it’s very dry to the touch and my hair poofs up as soon as it hits the air. It’s difficult to embrace my wavy/curly combo thick hair
Does it feel brittle and stiff or soft
It feels stiff and looks and feels very dry even after applying moisturizer, etc
All of a sudden I'm loosing my hair! I've h had some stress but this is going on to 2 months... I haven't changed my diet, products or vitamins
What if my hair doesn't like protein. Every time I try, it gets hard 😢
you should put in the title “digital planner/tracker” or something so you get more clicks
because this is a REALLY good idea
@@kikifreehe Thank you!
the bonnet keeps the heat in and gets to warm to sleep.
What kind of material is it? I've tried some satin ones that are very thin and breathable
The top section is more damaged than the bottom section?! Other way around!
