Yes it is. Everybody's curl pattern is different like zebra stripes and responds to products differently. What works for one person will not work for another even if they have the exact same hair type.
Just tried damp styling instead of soaking wet and I have one of the best wash days in forever! I always was told soaking wet hair but my fine wavy/curly hair never lasted..it's damp styling for me from now on and drying time is minimal 😊
One product that really makes a difference is the Curlsmith hairspray! I love it, makes my hair last like nothing else. The down side is that the hair feels a little bit hard. I tried the Ouidad gel but i feel it doesnt have hard hold and leaves my hair weighed down.
Thanks for the great video! By the way, I just tried the Innersense I Create Curl Memory based on your recommendation from last week's video for the first time this morning. I love it! I styled my hair with I Create Hold on one side and I Create Curl Memory on the other. I'd forgotten how much I dislike the I Create Hold - sooooo stiff and sticky. But the I Create Curl Memory gave me a cast that was just as hard and was a much nicer experience with all the slip. I feel like I got better product distribution with the I Create Curl Memory too. And it doesn't come in a jar, ha! Thanks again for the recommendation.
Just want to say thank you for all your videos. They are so helpful especially since I am about 4 months in the curly hair journey and it can be confusing and overwhelming! I did get your Curly Hair Tracker & Planner a few days ago and I believe it is really going to help me a lot!
I purchased the Quidad hard hold gel since you talk about it so much. I used it for the first time two days ago, with brush styling, and so far so good! My hair gets a little stretched out in the front when I sleep since I wear a pineapple, but easy enough to refresh. Thanks!
On your recommendation, I bought some Ouidad gel. I put it on three days ago, and refreshed it with only water for the last two days. It looks great! I love this stuff! Yes, it's more expensive, but I didn't need to use as much of it as other styling gels, and it's lasted. So thanks for testing these products for your viewers! I really appreciate it!
Do you know of a gel that is even stronger than the Ouidad gel? I like that one a lot, thanks to you, but I think I need even a harder hold..thank you for all the information and demonstrations

Excellent video! I feel like my hair is similar to yours, but a looser wave. It gives me hope that I may be able to get it to last longer. It is nice to see when your hair is not always perfect, haha. It makes me feel better because I am amazed at how sometimes my hair can get pretty curly but then it can also get so stretched out. It is like day & night! It is so nice to see that I am not alone!
Thank you Jenna for this video, you manage to discipline your curls very well. I tend to use too much cream and gel and sometimes the curls are heavy but protected. Not easy....
Just wanted to tell u been watching u for few yrs now, u have giving me so many helpful tips! Ty! Wanted to share my recent discovery as ur hair very similar to mine. Kristen Ess clarifying shampoo, then Elvive hyaluron shampoo n conditioner then not ur mother's cream gel then moose! Great results n lasting!
Amazon is your friend. And most products are available through the brand's website if Amazon doesn't carry them. You may have to pay shipping, but you won't be spending money on transportation. I no longer bother trying to find products in stores. It's a colossal waste of time and energy. If stores won't carry the products we curly girls need, then they don't deserve our patronage.
Ok I thought I was crazy choosing to apply gel & mousse AFTER plopping for a few minutes. Also interesting about too much cream. I feel like I need SO much leave in conditioner to get some slip. Can you do a video on how much slip is needed?
I haven’t heard of that AG cream. I’m in a long term relationship with AG re-coil but I do have very coarse hair and now I’m wondering if the protein is adding to it. I really like having a product that encourages/activates my curls though because i have some random strands that just lay completely straight.
Could you create a video trying out different affordable/drugstore mousses? For example: Herbal Essences mousses, Aussie mousses, Garnier Fructis mousses, Suave mousses, etc.
Great video today I used the we Dad that you did and my hair still felt a little crunchy all day I like the soft feel but I need that hold cuz my hair gets frizzy just like yours
So much needed this tutorial. My hair is lo density. I think I am adding to much products like CS density and and heat protection . So now I assess my hair and use what needed. And used ouidad or CS strong gel on the right portion. I finger coil my crown and bangs with great results
Thanks so much. This was so helpful; going to order a few of the items linked. I'm still trying to retrain my curls. Last washday was best ever, but I have on small section I front that doesn't curl at all! Any ideas?
This is common! Sometimes it's fixable and sometimes it's just natural. Do you tuck your hair behind your ears or wear it up? I would try finger coiling it and/or brush coiling it. Bond repairing products can help it spring up too
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but every time I use ACC gel I still frizz up. I live in Houston and humidity/dew points are merciless. I think it might be from the glycerin in it. Maybe I should dbl up with the original and the stronger hold. Anywhoooo, love your videos!!
The polyquats in it counteract the glycerin so it wont cause frizz. A few things: -Do you have the one that says "stronger hold" on the label -Are you using enough? I use a lot per section -Layer more on top of microplopped hair -Make sure your hair is not soaking wet, diluting it -Use it alone with no cream -Add a hairspray for extra hold It could just not be enough for your humidity. Other strong hold options: genamarie.co/2024/04/best-anti-frizz-products-for-curly-hair/
I have both types of clips and I prefer the Bounce Curl clips. My hair is fine and low density. The Curl Keeper clips tend to fall over and don’t hold my fine hair very well. The Bounce Curl clips stay in without any problems.
I have to style on soaking wet hair, since my hair is more on the low porosity side. It has a difficulty absorbing moisture and products. I do however use less leave-in/curl creams. But when I get onto gel, I apply it more than usual onto hair that’s more evenly wet (not soaking/dripping wet) that way I get a good gel-cast, plus the longevity of my curls throughout the week. Any tips on how I can damp style on my low porosity hair?
Could you make an update on hair shedding and whether any of the scalp serums have helped? I have dealt with excessive shedding all my life and it affects how long I can grow my hair even though I am on hairloss meds and use red light.
I had a hair loss problem a couple of years ago, and my blood test results at my doctor's office showed that I was deficient in vitamin B 12. After taking a supplement for a while, the hair started getting thicker again. This may not be your problem, but ask your doctor for a routine blood test, and that may show whether or not you have a B 12 deficiency.
Thank you both for your replies! I have had many labs run over the years, and my iron deficiency has been fixed for years now, but I still shed way too much. Different docs disagree as to the diagnosis, but I am being treated for androgenetic hairloss. Its tough to get under control though!
@@Chrissy45999 I'm sorry you're having this problem. I had a friend who had very thin hair, and it looked better in a short haircut. I'm sure you've already tried different hair styles, though. I hope your doctors can find the solution.
I feel that these are not comparable. Could you redo this routine with same products but do the exact same but with the product. I wonder if your soft hold would have lasted if you would have done you styling technique.
The reason why mine don't last a day us because my hair is naturally coarse and dry. No amount of gel or product will make them last 8 hours, often times less.
I have dry hair also and my top section is coarse! Moisturizing gels that are slippery and brush styling have helped me the most. I will make an updated video on coarse hair management. Moisturizing creams also help with some oils in them
I have tried dozens of creams and gels. Nothing works. It's just my hair. I have used leave in conditioners and then gels on top with moderate success, but as I said, after about 8 hours or so, the frizzy dry hair returns. I should also say that I have to use a lot of product just to get it to cooperate or within an hour it will be frizzy.
Are you washing your hair every day? Most curly hair doesn't need a daily shampoo. Do you deep condition? Or maybe a hot oil treatment would help, also. Do you color your hair? It can affect the moisture levels in your hair.
That is a test for your elasticity, not your porosity. However more breakage and poor elasticity can happen with high porosity hair, but also any porosity level if there's an imbalance. If it breaks easily then it needs moisture and possibly protein or bond repair treatments for strength.
I finally bought the tavel curlsmith diffrzant hairdryer and it was amazing. I hadn’t ever diffused my course wavy hair. I had more volume and didn’t have to wait three hours. I will get the curlsmith miracle heat protectant next even though I use low heat but wish I knew which hairspray was good with no alcohol. Thank you Gena ❤️
Would like to order those clips. I've tried the black and white ones. No, not for me. Kept falling out.. Bounce Curl only issue- Their shipping is slow. Wish they would resolve this problem.
Have you used it with a curl cream underneath? And what is your hair texture and porosity? If you have low porosity hair, it may have too much protein for you. causing a stiff feeling. It actually contains a lot of moisturizing ingredients so its likely what you're experiencing is not from the gel, or its not the right gel for your hair type.
