2 years at $1500 a month is $36,000. She was literally paying them to bully and disrespect her. The kid didn't have a chance growing up there. It was a good thing it was stopped. You do not produce a productive, respectful adult by teaching kids to manipulate for money and be entitled... and bully. I hope she is doing better now.

Born in the 50s, I was taught never do we stare at, mock, or say hurtful things about people who are physically or mentally disabled. We are all people. I worked a job where I was often around teens, and they talk the talk about how you treat different people, but did not walk the walk.

Thank you! I was born in 1950, I was about 3 or 4, I asked my grandmother about a friend of hers, whose legs were bowed at wide angles. I was a toddler and asked if the lady was broke. My grandmother explained that the lady had a misfortune in her life that left her like that. That she wasn't broke, and that people sometimes have problems and I should never make fun or criticize them. I was a toddler, but I can still see that woman and remember my grandmother talking to me about it, these 70+ years later.

Kind of reminds me of my own story. I was born with a physical handicap, that would worsen through time. I never could run, just walk, I fell a lot and was bullied at school, like a got beaten up every single day for the first four years. My parents always told me, it had to be my own fault and the other children would have a reason to treat me like that. And my parents also verbally and physically abuse me every day, because my clothes were ripped up and sometimes there were bloodstains of them, when I got home.
The rest of the family always told me, too, it was all my fault, since I was born with a handicap, that stressed my parents and made my father become an alcoholic.
But life got much better after school, I learned a well paying profession and after getting out of an abusive relationship, I uilt up a good life on my own, with a great job, good friends and a nice rented apartment. And I promised myself, no relationship for the next at least two years.
And a few weeks later I met my now husband in a bookstore. Bookstores obviously are great places to meet husbands.😅
After fighting my feelings for that man quite some time, I gave in and started dating him. I told him after our first kiss, that I would need a wheelchair soon and was unable to have children on my own. He just said "okay " and proposed soon after. Yes, after only a few weeks of relationship he proposed because his army job made him move away that time.
Long story short, I accepted, we got married a year later and are now married for more than 27 years.
My father in law was once asked, why his son married a cripple and my father hit that guy's face once and broke the jaw. My FiL is a stonemason and apparently, that job gives you a powerful punch. 😂
So my in laws are now my family and on my side only my sister was invited to the wedding,

Isla is just a meanspirited, cruel sister to OP. She and her husband fought all the time. That's no excuse to let your child mock her disabled aunt. That's no reason to allow your daughter to bully other kids. Isla was just bad news. At least OP grew a spine and syopped sending Isla money. And Isla divorced her deadbeat husband. Isla and her daughter will always be thoughtless, shallow, mean bullies. But OP will be so much happier keeping her money in her pocket and going LC with them.

No one should be bullied. Disability is a touchy subject, dependent on the person. I have a friend that is a above the knee amputee and he doesn't mind the jokes and makes his own about it. He told me one day, that he asks if it's okay in whatever group he's in. Last year, he was a body double for his Halloween decorations. Scared kids silly to suddenly sit up and offer them candy.

My wife almost stroked out when I dressed up as a peg leg pirate.
A group of drunk guys asked me what it cost.pointing at my peg leg.
      I told them my leg.
While at the beach on Bellows Air Station, some kids came up and asked my what happened.
I told them I lost my leg.
One kid asked if I didn’t know where I lost it.
I pointed out to the ocean and said a shark bit it off, right here. I’m waiting for him to come back for a rematch.
I count myself as lucky that I only “lost” my leg below the knee. Thankfully VA has taken good care of means that I can still do everything I did before.
Well maybe a bit slower, but it beats being dead.

I think Op did the best thing by cutting off her sister. She was giving her the money because of her DEAD BEAT HUSBAND and it took her sister relying on her own income ONLY to see that she had been Ignoring her child being a Bully, and her Husbands Abuse by Refusing to contribute to the family in any way. OP had to cut her off in order for her to Realize she was better off without him, and She needed to Divorce him. Maybe if OP had only supported her for Few Months insted of these past YEARS she would have been More Respectful and Understanding of others Plights.

I lost my left leg in a near-fatal auto accident when I was 30 years old and have many other physical scars and challenges from it including financial.
Although I grew up in a disfunctional home, none of my family members have ever treated me like OPs sister and niece did, even when in my many struggles I turned to self-medicating with alcohol and burned many bridges with them by begging for financial help that they knew would fund the ensuing alcohol addiction I struggled with.
I was supernaturally healed from my addiction 6.5 years ago and I've been slowly rebuilding these family relationships as they see me rebuilding my life; living financially responsibly and building my own business with the goal of finally breaking the chains of government disability "benefits" that have kept me from my greatest ambitions as a creative soul for so many years.
So yeah, as a fellow survivor I can't even imagine how cruel and heartless these people could be toward a supposed loved one who went through so much!

There is a saying that i thought everyone was well aware of. "Don't bite the hand that feeds." When someone is giving you money, when they babysit, when they are doing so much for you and you're benefitting so much from them, you DON'T mock them to their face. You don't mistreat them, because guess what? When you bite the hand that feeds, the hand will stop feeding, and you are left to figure it out for yourself. This brat and her mother took a hard bite of that hand and paid the price

I honestly hope the niece gets her stuff in order and learns to treat others properly. Also, i don't want to say it, but i hope OP's sister doesn't reclaim custody of the niece unless she's actually made to put in the effort to repair things and ensure the niece stays on the right path of not bullying others. I do feel OP should maybe invite the niece to a counseling session with her where OP discusses what she's been through due to her disability so the niece understands exactly why you don't do anything to hurt someone with a disability.....if OP reads this, please let her know that I truly sypathize with her fully and I hope she thinks through how she's going to help the niece going forward.
Also, maybe get the tax people to investigate whether OP's sister claimed any of the money she sent her on her taxes or spent it all on house changes, because it was a pretty big amount of money total over several years based on the numbers alone....but that is op's call to make

How exactly is stopping unwarranted financial support and not standing in the way of a bullying complaint payback and revenge? The assistant and other parents from the school would have filed the complaint whether OP wanted them to or not and unless she was willing to pay a substantial amount of hush money to keep the bullying quiet then she had absolutely no power to intervene. It is completely logical and morally correct to stop financial aid to a family using that money to buy luxury goods and home remodeling. If they were actually struggling with money for food or utilities it would be a different issue but they weren't. At 13 years old you are old enough to know and understand that your actions have consequences and that you can't just hurt other people because you feel hurt. Kathy is 100% better off in the custody of her grandmother and needs some intensive behavioral therapy ASAP.

    Story 1. Some thoughts.
OP said "It took time but I now love myself and accept how I look" and then a bit later "I decided that im going to let it go" (when referring to the insensitive costume)
She then immediately DOESNT let it go... and lets this mockery destroy her self worth.
Here is the problem... Either you have self worth... or you dont... Mockery or mean words wont change that. Love yourself truly, and if you do, it doesnt matter what other people say, as you can brush it off like crumbs from your shirt... its irrelevant, you are stronger then that.
While I can empathize with OP's story, she is rather fragile about her accident and should probably seek some therapy to ACTUALLY move past the damage and grow into a stronger and better person.
Remember you cant "love yourself" and "be worried about what people think" its one or the other... important life lesson there.

But then i was spelling it out in my head and realised that i probably knew the name and its a name i love when pronounced right but to look at, unless someone tells you, its not obvious.
Isla is not pronounced like 'Eez-la', it's pronounced like 'Eye-la'. It's originally from the Spanish word for island which is actually pronounced with the S but isn't generally used as a name. But at some point the Spanish word was adopted into the Scottish language (not sure at what point) and became commonly used as a girls name but the S in Isla was 'dropped' or not pronounced, again, not sure why but possibly for the softer sounding name 🤷🏻‍♀️
