      I don't know if it's just the photo, but @15:35 the cerakote looks a bit blotchy near the tip.
      Also... To make removal of all manner of coatings without damaging the underlying steel a bit easier... You might want to look into ground up nutshells for a blasting medium!
      Makes removing a somewhat disappointing cerakote to prep for reapplication an absolute breeze!
      Keep up the awesome work!

      Yeah, that last application wasn’t perfect and needed a bit more on the tip. It still looks good in person, the camera might make it look worse. If I had a sand blaster, I certainly would have used that tip!

    Its a beauty, and I feel the pain with your finger end, I have a big working weight Nepalese Kukri, they seem to be designed to cut very deep I too have taken some big chunks out of myself sharpening it...I think a Kukri blade is almost always at a shear/skew cut angle whichever way you approach it so when they bite in they really grab and go for it...No wonder the Ghurkas like them so much...wicked build.

    I'm planning to go with well figured Curly Maple scales and red liners and Perma Blue on the blade! I have the bevels ground in and had to cheat with a 41/2 inch angle grinder! I can still manage to hold that still enough to get good bevels! Since I don't have a decent enough grinder to do it without going through a million belts! It's not going to be for anyone but me, as a camp tool so, any imperfections will be no big deal!
    I do appreciate your help! Better tools would be a help but, you work with what you have and I doubt I'll live long enough to afford all that I SHOULD have begun collecting MANY years ago! I just turned 69 on the 12th of July so, who knows?

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It moves pretty easy under the hammer. I think forging it is just like 10xx series and there’s no difference. The big difference is it does decarb so you’ll have to grind off more than usual. Particularly when you test it for hardness, you’ll have to grind it a bit first. Other than that aspect, it’s pretty similar. Oh, the peek austenizing temp is a bit higher at 1530 instead of 1475 so that’s another thing to consider. Next week’s Triple-T will be all about heat treating, how-to’s, tips and recipes for different steels. Definitely check that one out!

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely NOT 80CRV2, it is relatively new. Most likely they are 15n20 steel, which is basically 1080 plus 2% nickel. 80CRV2 is 1080 plus a bit of CRomium and 2% Vanadium. It's in the name... 1080 + CRomium + V2 = 80CRV2.
