    Bodie hasn't actually been untouched for 100 years. The last residents of the town were back in the 1940's when around 90 people still lived there, compare that to the nearly 3,000 who lived there in 1880 and you can see that there was definitely a decline over the decades. By 1950 the town was empty.

    This is an amazing video of a place practically frozen in time. For those of you complaining this is a bad video, you clearly don't have appreciation for history, or urban exploring in its truest sense, for that matter. I'm sure there are some fake, staged "ghost" videos for those of you who like that sort of thing.
    Thank you, Josh. This is a great video.

    The windows are not new. All of the buildings were once painted. It looks like the windows were repainted. Rather than restoring, they have chosen to preserve the town in this state of deterioration. They keep up the roofs, and spray the exterior with chemicals to protect from the elements.

      @cudgymercy8574 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Eileen Mosley the glass don't melt it just cause it was the 1500-1900 and there were no technical stuff for the glass it was handput and people were just bad at it

      We have a glass manufacturer in Germany that makes the old style windows for us so we can use it for replacement. I know because I work there and I talked to Josh and John. By "keeping the roofs" we replace the shingles, and we replace the windows.

    When I was a kid we still used well water, sometimes from a bucket and sometimes from a pump/faucet. In some places, outhouses were still used, too. We had indoor plumbing but sometimes it was bad/weak. At some point, something happened and the well water became contaminated. Eventually, the city of Dallas, TX put in the sewer, water, etc. for my little town of only a few hundred.

    It’s good to see your appreciation for the beauty of keeping these things exactly as they were left so long ago, untouched. And also the way you try to put into words the beauty of how it has naturally been slowly touched by the weather and elements over the years. I also like to try to mentally place myself in these places as if I were rewinding the calendar and imagining it as if I were there originally

    My parents , brother, sister and I visited Bodie in 1975. It was not as well maintained back then. Very cool place. I could almost hear the old souls voices in the wind. My sister found an old Presidential elections pin under the chapel stairs with James Buchanan's name on it and the year 1856. She gave it to the museum curator on site. I'll never forget that place. For example, the Rangers quarters and the general store he’s looking into at 6:00 has lightbulbs that stay dimly lit hanging from the ceilings. The town itself was also known as one of the deadliest towns in the west, where one of the wealthiest men in town at a time was the coffin maker, whos house and gallery still stand.

    The town of bodie is so haunted that if you steal something from one of the buildings or even just take a small memento to remember your trip you will be plagued by the bodies curse until you return the item you took.
    The lady that works at the post office in the next town over (since bodie itself doesn't have a postal address any longer) has testified to the fact that she gets tens of letters and packages every year from people in other states and countries that are mailing back the items they had pocketed since their vacation there along with a letter explaining all the horrible luck that had befallen them since they had taken the items from the town, and would the post Lady kindly return the item to bodie for them.
    One such story is a man that drove his pickup truck into bodie and took an old piano from one of the houses (back in the early 1990s when the town wasn't an attraction and before security was ever there) and within 5 months his wife left him, his son was killed in a swimming accident, he lost his job and his entire pension and his father came down with a sudden deathly case of cancer and had only months to live. Very sad. The bodie curse lives on.

    What makes me happy is that I've been here before a long time ago I was 12 I went with my family and my mom thought it would be hot so I wore my overalls with the shorts and had a tank top and was freezing the entire time. It was snowing. This brought back memories. :) I'm almost 32 now.

    I've been to Bodie. It's a really cool ghost town and is kept in a state of arrested deterioration by the park service just so people can come and explore the town. It's all in it's original state aside from the few homes which have been restored for the park employees to live in. Bodie itself is a really cool mining town which played a big part in developing modern mining practices and technology. Fun Fact, it was the first towns to recieve electricity from a dam a few miles away and the power plant is still in the town, though not featured in this video. It was the first real field test for transferring electrical power over power lines.

    • @ashleyann2557

      cindy a the gold ended up running out and things that weren’t personal belongings such as family pictures, clothes, were takin but the rest was to expensive to take so they left everything else, it’s why furniture and cooking pans and pots were all left😝 learned this today and I actually sound like I have smarticle particles 😂

    • @infinitegodaikinbrent8174
      @infinitegodaikinbrent8174 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the gold dried up. But also a big fire in the 1940s took 1/3 of the town. The day after they got the fire out, near everyone left with just their valuables and what ever would fit in a suitcase in a car. And they just left, to never return. That’s why the houses and buildings still have all the stuff, and in many of them you can tell by how stuff is in the homes, people literally jumped up and left.

    I have had water drawn from a well like the one here, in a bucket. The water tastes like nothing else! It is always ice cold and tastes wonderful. There was always a metal dipper to dip the water from the bucket into your cup. Or you brought your own bucket to pour the water in and your bucket had a metal dipper, also, that had a flat hook at the end so it would hang on the side of the bucket. My grandfather had a well like this on his farm when I was growing up. He had no running water. The water would stay very cold in a metal bucket in the shade on the back porch.

    ive been here and i can tell you the paranormal is real here for sure. i was very young, it was in the late 1990's my mom had a polarized camera, heading into this town, all the pictures were fine. the ones inside the town, every single one, was distorted, discolored, blurry chunks missing on it..and the ones leaving the town again, perfectly fine. it may be very very very coincidental but i mean what are the odds..if you saw the pictures yourself, you would also believe that there was another essence there. anyways great videos! i love them
