Just so you know, all that stuff left at Bodie, I had a summer job in the late 1970's where I worked for California State Parks. One of my jobs was to go with the crew that maintained the area around Bodie and part of that was to maintain the "look" of the rooms and put "artifacts" in the buildings. Sometimes animals make too big of a mess, and sometimes things just get taken. Most of its just junk we find at the swap meets around Bishop and that area anyway. If anyone goes there, please leave things alone, and don't mess it up.
I am sure your right about the furnishings and all, but it's still nice to see the place has not been vandalized to the point of being not worth going to like so many other places.
Crystal 00 you are right about the non authentic part but why would people in a dying town leave anything useful laying about. At least the state attempted to preserve the History. I live near Philadelphia and the furniture at Independence hall is correct for the period but was not there during the revolution, the British destroyed it for fire wood.
@WootTootZoot, what a fun thing to do! In the ‘50’s things weren’t like now! The store has so much more stuff in it now, and I guess you explained why! Michael Garcia that’s amazing! I’ve been watching videos about the Hopi! When they went to the UN In 1993 w/the other 5 tribes, etc.. AMAZING stories of their prophecies & of others & their origins! Great that you know all this! Puts things into perspective & makes more sense now, as to what is really going on & has gone on here on Earth! The “ruddy complexion” =red! Makes much sense! Plus all these huge buildings supposed to have been created by a people who came here who used horses...I’m thinking these great buildings were already here...looks like Rome or Greece was everywhere! I’ve heard of Giants of Tartaria...Canada to Russia, depending on the different maps of the different time periods! Very interesting! So you can view the body at the funeral. Nothing superstitious. They did tie strings to the limbs of the deceased when they buried them that was connected to a bell above ground. Sequoias and redwood trees don't drop their acorns until they are partially burned. Fire causes their acorns to open up, causing the seeds to become active. So, even something as destructive as fire does positive things. Bodie is an amazing place. Love this video!
Bodie is a beautiful amazing piece of history. Only take with you what you brought though. It's been said that if you take anything from there bad luck will come with you too.
Chris, imagine my excitement when I see you filming the Redwoods in my 'backyard', at Stout Grove, just minutes from Crescent City, CA. You did a wonderful job of capturing feeling of the forest, and the size of the trees which is hard to do. And you were brave to enter a burned out tree, I expected to see t-p on the ground lol. Redwood roots are only 6ft deep, they hold each other up, if one goes down the surrounding ones are soon to follow. Bodie, CA was the first 'ghost town' I went to as a child, then living in s cal. It was 1968, I was amazed as I walked around looking into the windows. I think it was then that I became interested in history. Thank you for all the best in one video, it s actually my first, and I look forward to watching more of your great videos. Well done!
I can't begin to tell you how much I truly love that someone - you of course Chris - took the time to take me to such amazing places I'll never get the chance to do so in person myself. I only happened to come across you by mere chance & coincidence, and not the least bit sorry nor regretful. This filming is from 3 years ago, but, you have such a presence of connecting, to make it seem and feel like I'm right there alongside you, in a sense. I mean, those huge, gigantic, humongous trees, and actually walking inside of one - again, I can't thank you enough for doing so, also, something I'll never get to do myself, so this is the next best thing to being there. Absolutely amazing. And then too, the ole ghost town. I'm not even there with you, but yet I could literally feel as if tho my presence were there. I could feel the aura in each of the buildings you guided me thru. Talk about breathless, speechless. Question: was there anything there at all, alive & living, whether it be ants, bees, spiders, or any other kind of bug or insects there? birds of any kind? I'm ever so curious to know this. Thx again Chris 🙂 you made my day, with all your "tour guiding" me along the way.
Your love for another time in history and for a generations you did not know is greatly appreciated by a generation of us who are now quickly becoming the past generation our selves. This was posted 2 years ago . I hope you are still the same young man now that you were 2 years ago.
A California resident most of my life, I've been all over that State, and even up in the Bridgeport area down from Lake Tahoe, area but not to Bodie, so thank you for your very interesting video -- I love old ghost towns, they can still tell so much! I always loved going to the Redwoods, and did it fairly often. Angel's Camp is fun, Murphys, Sonora, and white-water rafted a number of rivers in California over the years, and always tried to take in some of these out-of-the-way historical places. They're so fascinating! There are some very interesting ghost towns all over, IF you know where to find them. But few are as maintained as Bodie Those old "mining-days" towns have some very interesting histories!
Absolutely amazing!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this amazing place with us!!!! Hands down the Coolest place I've ever seen explored!! I am in just awe!!! 😍😍😍😍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The shot of you coming around the trunk of that tree is the best shot of perspective I've ever seen---and I had a weird thought: "Boy, it's a good thing the chipmunks and squirrels aren't proportioned to _match!"_ Bodie is amazing, fascinating, and somehow doesn't give the same sad vibes most abandoned places give. This is the best presentation of a "ghost town" I've seen yet. (And no mention of the "Bodie Curse!")
The idea is not to fix them but as he said they call it arrested decay meaning they basically let nature take its course and just do the minimal amount to slow down the decay.
My family went to Bodie in 2008 from Texas. I love history, the old West, ghost towns and the mountains. It was well worth the difficult drive up there. It was a bucket lister for me.
I slept inside a burned out tree on jackass ridge just north of Westport CA., in April 1979, but NOT before I cleaned out all the bones that were in there!!! What an experience that was :--)))
I LOVED this!!! I grew up in Northern California and have a special place in my heart for the Redwoods. I've never been to Bodie, this was so cool to see, thank you!!
This was a few years ago , but I just stumbled on this video. The Forest looks like from a fairy tale story. It would not have surprised me a bit, if there are fairies flying around and a giant walking by.... So beautiful. The building's are amazing and I can actually picture it in my mind, how busy it must have been back then..I could walk around for ever , and let my fantasy play with it. So much to discover. And like you said , it must have been very horrible living in those buildings during hot Sommer ,those cold Winters or any storm.. Thanks for the Tour, I found it very interesting .
I have a ton of respect for you, Mobile Instinct. You do your research on the places and approach them respectfully. Not many young men like you on TH-cam.
I remember going through the red woods as a child while on road trips with my family . One tree you did not get to see was the one you were able to drive through ! Stay safe in all you do
There are numerous drive-through trees in California. It was a "thing" back in the old days. The one that fell over was a Giant Sequoia in Calaveras Big Trees State Park, which is in central California. One Giant Redwood drive-through tree I am familiar with is the Chandelier Tree, in Leggett CA (NorCal). It is still alive and well: www.drivethrutree.com/
I love your videos, you're very talented. There is something you should know about Bodie: EVERYTHING has been moved around to create an 'attraction' for people. Not necessarily to deceive people, and I'm sure it was done with good intentions. In the several times that I've been to Bodie, I've seen quite a lot of things moved around since my previous visit. For example, I see fenders for one type of car placed against a different car...its done to make it look 'better' and more 'complete'. Even in this video you can see the circa 1920 open touring car with a steering wheel from a 'who-knows-what' stuck into the center of the instrument panel. Oh please! You yourself have seen many other ghost towns, and you know darn well that newspapers don't lay on a dresser for 100 years. Look carefully, even very large equipment has been moved to other locations in the name of safety and 'appearance'. Here's a good thing about this town: it establishes the idea of protecting and preserving without restoring (an arrested state of decay)...and it's this very same approach I use for my vintage equipment. Bodie is a must-see for anyone interested in historical sites and equipment. Just remember that man has been in Bodie a long time too, and when they tell you that "its exactly as they left it", its a lie said for your entertainment...like Santa or the Easter bunny. The park needs to stop spreading 'fake news', or else who knows where the lies will end?
What amazed me when I visited the redwoods of California was not only the tremendous size of them but the root system for those trees are only 6 feet below the surface and intertwine within each other to help stand tall & magnificent. Truly a site to see.
At around 7:07, when you're looking in the store, there's a reflection of an older guy behind you. Were you not alone? Ghost lol? Honestly, I'm glad to know that you don't go to all these places alone. Could be dangerous. Who knows? Thanks for the great videos! 💗
Me, too a day later. I live in California. Wondering where Bodie lies on the map. At the rate we're going, we could go back to small and rustic like this again. In fact, living here might even be more civilized than LA or San Francisco of today. Appreciate your calm respect.
Truly amazing! I’ve grown up in the SF Bay Area my whole life and have never heard of this ghost town! It was also great to watch you experience one of my favorite childhood past times, climbing redwood stumps! Thanks so much for the video!
There's a lot to see up here in the Sierras; the only thing is, you might end up wanting to move here. That's what happened to my family; we spent a weekend up here and moved here a couple of weeks later.

From Texas, In July 2017 the wife, kids and I went on a 4070 mile road trip over 16 days, we went to both of these places. The Sequoia trees were absolutely amazing, a very humbling experience. Well worth the beautiful winding road up the mountain to get there. The only disappointing part was there are signs that clearly state to stay on the trails, but adults and kids run rampant everywhere. Many of them loading the cars with pine cones. The foot traffic is so great that ground is compacted around many of the areas. Bodie is awesome, the kids would run from one building to the next just to see what was in each building. We found out about Bodie because Bodie is one of the coldest towns in the continental US several times a year and they post this on our local news cast. The reason we went to Bodie is our sons name is Bodie. Bodie is in the middle of nowhere, several of the park Rangers live onsite, due to the distance to a bigger town. BTW, take Tioga pass road out of Yosemite to get to Bodie, the drive is absolutely beautiful...……. especially for a farm boy that grew in the middle of a flat cotton patch. Nothin like a Great American Road Trip with the family. Very blessed!
There were periods of rapid decline, but I don't think people were forced out (as dramatic as that sounds). I think it was a matter of people taking what they could carry and leaving what wasn't. But the drop in population didn't happen overnight or even all at the same time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodie,_California
Bodie sits so high in the mountains that it is closed in the winter due to snow and cold. The mines worked 24 hours a day so the town never slept. And there were more bars than other towns, for obvious reasons. But never , never take anything home.
Wow! I just discovered.you and your videos having just watched the one on Bodie. You made my adventure so enjoyable because you were so knowledgeable about the history and fun to be with. Thank you.
Great video..i love the old furniture in the houses. I love stories/ the history of places like this. This was an awesome place, thanks for sharing with us..
It's my absolute dream to go to a forest with trees that big. I live in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Born raised and still live here and yes I've been out of the state and country but not ever to a place where trees grow that big. So it's DEFIANTLY on my to do list before I die, to visit. I'm in love with places like that. SO SO SO BEAUTIFUL!
The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I know lots of people who wish they could live in Fort Lauderdale. Still, your point is well taken. It's difficult to grasp just how humongous the redwoods are, unless you've seen them in person.
Ive been to bodie 3 years ago and when i was there they were the state park workers were re roofing 2 houses next to the church and the house with alot of windows with the bottles in it
Awesome video!! Presentation was perfect! Man I love studying and seeing that old historical stuff like that.. Glad to see young men like yourself interested in it also. Cool video, Thanks for sharing.
at about 7:07 to 7:10 there’s an older man standing behind you in the reflection of the glass window- not sure if you’re solo in these vids but there ya go.
Guys, there's other tourists wandering around the town. I'm sure the guy who did this video would be happy to confirm that. I can understand kids thinking they're seeing ghosts, (Dressed In Modern Clothes???), but it takes excessively gullible adults to think anything "supernatural" has been captured on this video!
It’s fantastic that they take care of this mining town, I hope they can preserve it for many generation You do a wonderful job of Narrating ...thanks !

I actually did the same, your Mount St. Helens video did it for me and then I noticed you ventured to Frontier Town which I have been too when I was younger, I’m 33 if that tells you something.
Very nice video very respectful of the history you walked lightly and left nothing behind as it should be. For everyone who wants to go to Bodie be careful it is supposedly cursed. If you take something from the town you have non stop bad luck or whatever you want to call it until you return what you took
Cool video man bout Redwoods, I been at Bodie (fall,2015) very interesting hope you went to mystic "Mono Lake" also. Bodie was the highlight on my 4K miles road trip in CA. Thank for sharing.
Some years the snow got so deep that they had to dig tunnels throughout the town...and imagine the cold when you think of their houses not having insulation! And their winds were legendary!

The Cain’s stayed there and bought up the town, piece by piece. They donated it as a park.
Yeah, I know. 😉
Your love for another time in history and for a generations you did not know is greatly appreciated by a generation of us who are now quickly becoming the past generation our selves. This was posted 2 years ago . I hope you are still the same young man now that you were 2 years ago.
I like the way you respect the places you visit, not only do you get a like ,i also subscribed
Very cool video!! Thanks for sharing it!!
Sequoias, not redwoods.
Thank you 4 all the details. Very neat place.
Absolutely amazing!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this amazing place with us!!!! Hands down the Coolest place I've ever seen explored!! I am in just awe!!! 😍😍😍😍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Many thanks!
You footage is amazing! Felt like I was there!!!
Awesome
This is a good video, Mobile Instinct. They just keep on getting better.
Sad to see those building's are still decaying and can't be fixed.
What an experience that was :--)))
Dave all the bones?!!! 😳
Ya, but not human!!! :--{)
how do they get burned out?
A forest fire from years before :--))))
Not that exciting. They were animal bones of some sort:--))))))
A great video, as always. Thanks for sharing the atmosphere through you journeys. Take care!
I LOVED this!!! I grew up in Northern California and have a special place in my heart for the Redwoods. I've never been to Bodie, this was so cool to see, thank you!!
You should go, seriously. It's well worth the drive.
Great living giants. Beautiful trees.Nice old mining town. I love that mint green they used to paint their kitchens.
I have a ton of respect for you, Mobile Instinct. You do your research on the places and approach them respectfully. Not many young men like you on TH-cam.
I remember going through the red woods as a child while on road trips with my family . One tree you did not get to see was the one you were able to drive through ! Stay safe in all you do
PoliceChaplain Misty It fell over didn’t in a storm
There are numerous drive-through trees in California. It was a "thing" back in the old days. The one that fell over was a Giant Sequoia in Calaveras Big Trees State Park, which is in central California. One Giant Redwood drive-through tree I am familiar with is the Chandelier Tree, in Leggett CA (NorCal). It is still alive and well: www.drivethrutree.com/
The General Lee. And one “stump” that was so big that they used to hold dances on it (I don't remember if it had a name.).
PoliceChaplain Misty The General Sherman?
Fantastic video! Loved it!
Such beautiful, interesting places and very well done video I think I've finally found an exploration channel that I can really enjoy watching
Great video, I really enjoyed it. THANKS.
At around 7:07, when you're looking in the store, there's a reflection of an older guy behind you. Were you not alone? Ghost lol? Honestly, I'm glad to know that you don't go to all these places alone. Could be dangerous. Who knows?
Thanks for the great videos! 💗
Creepy....
Whoa. Hope he has protection. Like a gun?
Lol I saw that too
I didnt see any other reflection. Just his
@@xxbreebee97xx86 It's right over his left shoulder. An older guy with a grey beard and wearing what looks like a grey hoodie/sweatshirt maybe.
Your channel is awesome!! Thanks!!
Just found you.... you’re awesome!!! Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful videos with us!!! 👍🏻❤️✌🏻
Me, too a day later. I live in California. Wondering where Bodie lies on the map. At the rate we're going, we could go back to small and rustic like this again. In fact, living here might even be more civilized than LA or San Francisco of today. Appreciate your calm respect.
I eated a bee! 🤣 lovely dog
Benny Boy 😄👍🏻 ditto!! Aren’t they Fun!!!🤣
Great job narration and camera work kudos 😊
I laughed when he wrote the buildings not the caskets. Such a cute kid.
Your videos calm me down and make me feel chill. I love it !!
I have to tell you that your video's are some of the most interesting I've seen on youtube! I'm so glad I found your channel. Just yesterday I saw a video where you visited HUGE concrete President statues. You do some amazing stuff. Thanks for taking us along! I really enjoyed it.
It's so beautiful here in Northern California. I'm glad you visited our beautiful part of the country!
They aren't only in the north you can also find many places in central cali 559
@@juankroosfrausto7411 Lol

@@OliviaBaeBy Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking? It is, but I've been bummed with all the fires 😕
This is one of the most amazing places to visit. There is so much to see and absorb. Great video and perfect teaser to go back!
This is the second of your videos that I've watched! Outstanding! Thank you.
Don Stanley Thank you Don I appreciate it
Very nice camera work.
(just subscribed and enjoying your travels)
You're sweet! Thank you for your time uploading, editing and sharing!!🌺 Namaste
Thanks for posting an interesting video. I never seen the redwoods( maybe someday) so your video gave me a close up view of them. I could feel your appreciation for the towns history. I will be watching more of your vids
That tree was lighting struck, which peeled the bark off
From Texas, In July 2017 the wife, kids and I went on a 4070 mile road trip over 16 days, we went to both of these places.
Why did people leave so much stuff behind when they left?
iforce2d, Some people didnt have horses or wagons to carry their things and had to travel on foot. So of course they couldnt take much...
looks staged to me. lol
My understanding is that Bodie is a state park being allowed to decay gracefully, so some very well could be.
I don’t think it was voluntary departure
There were periods of rapid decline, but I don't think people were forced out (as dramatic as that sounds). I think it was a matter of people taking what they could carry and leaving what wasn't. But the drop in population didn't happen overnight or even all at the same time.

I've seen other videos you've done and decided to subscribe great work what a interesting town
Bodie sits so high in the mountains that it is closed in the winter due to snow and cold. The mines worked 24 hours a day so the town never slept. And there were more bars than other towns, for obvious reasons. But never , never take anything home.
Denise Eldon finally a comment about not taking something. I was thinking it was Bodie. But I think Tombstone, AZ claims that too
Ive been yo Bodie before
Wow! I just discovered.you and your videos having just watched the one on Bodie. You made my adventure so enjoyable because you were so knowledgeable about the history and fun to be with. Thank you.
You just earned a subscription and a like. I hope this video gets up to 1 million views.
Thanks for a wonderful video! It was like stepping back into time . It’s amazing that so much is still standing and looking well preserved .
Great video..i love the old furniture in the houses. I love stories/ the history of places like this.
This was an awesome place, thanks for sharing with us..
I would love to visit this place and the majestic Redwood Forest. Thanks for sharing ☺️
This was very interesting! And you have such a pleasant and quiet way of taking us with you on your travels. Definitely subscribing
I just LOVE you personality! Your very brave for exploring these places by yourself too!
Thanks 😁
Your welcome! I like and subscribed btw😃
So awesome. Thank you for sharing this amazing place on earth. I would never think anything like this existed. I loved seeing this town. Thank you.
Ive been to bodie 3 years ago and when i was there they were the state park workers were re roofing 2 houses next to the church and the house with alot of windows with the bottles in it
This video is awesome. You have such a soothing voice and your excitement made me happy.
Firehouse made of wood. Ironic.
Travis vs I was just going to comment on that and not sure if anyone else noticed!
It’s fantastic that they take care of this mining town, I hope they can preserve it for many generation
You do a wonderful job of Narrating ...thanks !
just found your channel tonight and subscribed. I started by watching the Mount Saint Helens video and went to this one next. amazing scenery I've never been out to the western part of the country I don't know if I ever will so it's great to see these videos....
thanks much for sharing these wonderful videos.... the Redwood forest in the beginning was absolutely breathtaking
propdoctor21564 Thank You! I'm glad you found me.
Mobile Instinct Same here, great channel!!!!
Mobile Instinct same here I just found your channel today from the same video. Lol great channel by the way!
propdoctor21564 I seriously did the exact same
I actually did the same, your Mount St. Helens video did it for me and then I noticed you ventured to Frontier Town which I have been too when I was younger, I’m 33 if that tells you something.
Excellent video. Thank you.
Interesting history, and your research and respect are above reproach 👍🏼 excellent work
Very nice video very respectful of the history you walked lightly and left nothing behind as it should be.
Very excellently presented!
Some years the snow got so deep that they had to dig tunnels throughout the town...and imagine the cold when you think of their houses not having insulation! And their winds were legendary!
This has been one of the best videos yet. The old town was absolutely fantastic! Thank you for the tour.
