I was just there end of May 2022. just about everything in this film is still there in a state of "arrested decay". Bodie is a must do visit for anyone spending time in the Eastern Sierra's
Great old video. Was there Jul 2nd, 2023 right as they opened for the season. So different than the video, only 1 house was open to the public. People need to visit before it completely goes away.
Saw Bodie In 1991 on my California trip. Great place to visit, Wouldn't want to live there. LOL. Flew into San Francisco. 4 days there, Not nearly enough time. Went to Lake Tahoe for 4th of July, Gambled a little, Went to Yosemite for a day, awesome place. Then on to Ridgecrest to visit family, Up to Lake Isabella for camping trip RV. LA next, Hollywood, Back to Ridgecrest then over to Vegas, Hoover Dam. Bodie after that. Then Amtrac from Vegas to Chicago, St. Louis and back home to Louisville, Ky
Think of all the ('even-then) 'Old buildings that were still standing when this film was made....and are surely turned to dust now... fascinating place!. i'm gonna go have a look, and also want to Van Camp somewhere in the area. anyone know if the road IN...to bodie...keeps going out the 'back end' ( east? north? or even south?) is it Dirt? is it, fairly smooth? once IN the park ( paid, i understand now)...can you drive farther back...beyond the town...for Camping purposes? and, if one finds a spot for that...could you even have a campfire? ( still winter at the moment) just some questions. thanks in advance!

I wonder exactly what year this movie was made? It may have been broadcast in the 1950's, but the cars etc tell me it was made before ww2. I thought everyone had moved out during the war. Anyone know for certain?

Wow! That was really an interesting little piece of history. - Bodie of course, and this little film itself.

Visited in 2018. Looks the same as in this video.
I visited Bodie the first time before this film was made.

I love it....I would love to see a video tour of the inside of the Bodie Hotel....
Just love this place just wished they had more stories about it like this video. Wished I knew bout it when I was in Calf. Back in 1978 seeing my dad
I was wondering why there were Maxwell House cans and cardboard boxes all over the place inside the buildings at Bodie!

That caretaker is Martin Gianettoni, one of the last 3 people living in Bodie, roughly 1943.
