😂😂😂 it was a slick design .. I know allot of guys that do the rear turbo set up .. are u thinking of making the rear a electric actuated lift? for show..
I was told I have a jeep shaft in my s10 but I could've sworn I saw that plastic cup looking thing that comes on the oem s10 shaft. It's super loose up and down where it comes thru the firewall
These vids are great. True old school hot rod style right here, keep up the great content. Rob you impress, family/full time job/ and still making great progress on the ls swap. Love the channel SPP rocks!!!
That steering shaft and notching the exhaust are a nice, neat solution. I thought I had seen a lot of LS S-10/Sonoma swaps where they notched the frame to move the steering box over to gain clearance, I wonder if that is a variation of models or due to engine location/set back.
Hi do you ever work on other peoples rides?? I have a 1987 S10 Blazer, Tahoe package, 4X4, 2.8 V6, time capsule. 62K original garage kept, one owner, senior citizen miles. It is near mint. the 2.8 is slower than a riding mower. My wife's 4 cyl Hyundai is like a race car compared to the Blazer. I want to find someone that would put the new Silverado 310 hp 4 cyl turbo engine in it, if one can be sourced from a junkyard.
Nice build did you have to do anything to the truck power steering pump/alternator bracket to clear the steering box? Or did it just bolt in with no issues?
I think I saw some shortie headers on eBay for like 150 I think don't remember but seems like that might be pretty good to use but I guess basically free is free and would probably be about the same thing
The build is coming along good Rob, nothing better than seeing backyard build's love it. Question are you using the Jeep, steering shaft because you are going turbo? Wondering because if i have to go look for one or not on my swap. I am using shorty's but staying N/A. Keep up the good work boy's you all rock.
hay guys,i see its coming along just fine, rob your fabricating is great, even if i say so myself.i cant wait to see the completed job keep them videos coming, thanks mike elcamino bye
Hey guys another way to make the manifold fit better is to angle mill the flange on the manifold where it bolts to the head.. I did one for my buddy's nova to clear the steering box 7deg angle Puts the manifold close to the block and give you about an extra 3/4" of room But we used a ls1 camaro style power steering pump. Which mounts higher up.. could be an issue if you're using truck accessories
Clayton SPPTV Yep.. if you have a local machine shop or a friend that machines.. Pretty easy to do.. if can't find anybody close by too do one Remember my name If you need one cut in the future
And also the v8 trailblazer manifolds are smaller/thinner then regular trucks, but have the same shape and exit point.. But alot Harder it find at the scrap yards
Kevin Luck I know a guy! He’s me, lol. I have 3 and 5 axis mills, a 9 axis mill turn lathe, a wire edm, and we also do 3D metal printing at work. My boss keeps telling me to use the stuff for the cars but I’m trying to keep it real for the common man too. Thanks for the offer though!
On the S-10, they're pretty light, could you eliminate the PS pump for more room and just go to a manual steering box? For the next Q&A you guys need a proper junkyard garage sofa (AKA the back seat from a Savana/Express Van). You guys should buy one with a 6.0L and 4L80E from a used car auction and hack it for your next build.
Rob, looks really good. Thumbs up. From the camera angle, it's difficult to tell if you'll be able too sneak by the steering shaft... How is the clearance at getting to #7 spark plug?
even though you made it to fit, i'm still cautioning that the linkage would get pretty hot being so close to the manifolds. So i think it will work but question is , for how long and at what temp's would it reach being so close.
Looking good ,thinking a metal heat shield is in order for the PS lines and box but I am sure you have already thought of that. The comment about eng master's header test make me laugh at people who buy headers . 99% of them leak every 2 days and you be tightening them bolts again, well at least back in the old days.Zoomies for all out power or stock modified works just fine. Edit the bushing's in the steering shaft u joints will suffer under that heat so might want to grab another shaft while you can.
Do you think this steering shaft would work on a full size like an 80's C10? I know a lot of guys use the Cherokee shaft but if you look on ebay for a new wrangler shaft its about half the price of the cherokee shaft
Great vids guys! Sometimes the value of watching is to show one what you DON'T want to do...like cooking your suspension and steering components for the sake of cosmetics!
Bloody bewty...will the engine flex on the mounts much when smashing the limiter...concerned about clearanc on my own build...trying not to think about it to much really.
They use solid mounts, So if you use solid engine mounts no it wont flex, but if you use rubber yes it will. Just make sure if you use solid engine mounts you use a rubber trans mount. The frame does flex a little and if you have solid engine and trans mounts it can brake the trans case when the frame does flex.
novaracer2000 i geuss im just venting my own concerns with clearance in my build and knowing your going thru similar if not worse problem solving in this area also. Im hoping 10 or 15mm of clearance is enuff in a couple of tight spots....im geussing it may not be after watching my motor jolt side to side with hood off on the limiter during a burnout...time will tell.
I like the backround music when ur talking and touching the shafts
😳
😳
😳
😂😂😂 it was a slick design .. I know allot of guys that do the rear turbo set up .. are u thinking of making the rear a electric actuated lift? for show..
I like that you clean your parts as you go rather than having a sick ride that looks like shit lol. Good job!
I was told I have a jeep shaft in my s10 but I could've sworn I saw that plastic cup looking thing that comes on the oem s10 shaft. It's super loose up and down where it comes thru the firewall
Sick built cool
if any of your 5.3s has problems ,consider boring out for a ls 383 .
Legend has it Rob is still sanding that right front fender to this day
Money Mac im taking a break from the sanding but that fender is done.
very helpful info. im doing the same build, trying to watch all your vids but i cant get them in order from first to last.
If you look for the S10 minitruck build Playlist on our channel, I believe that plays in order. Their are a lot of videos on the build.
you've kind of inspired me to get back in to auto fab. not doing a bagger though. tube and tub.
Back yard builder has some good fimfo on the steering wheel sharft . But it looks like you have gotten it fixed and it looks great
These vids are great. True old school hot rod style right here, keep up the great content. Rob you impress, family/full time job/ and still making great progress on the ls swap. Love the channel SPP rocks!!!
jason scott thanks
Is there a reference for all the years and models of Jeep can I pull those shafts from?
Not that i know of.
Hey Rob, why not use an F body accessory setup? Then your power steering pump will be up higher and you won't have to worry about heat.
Evil s10 i want to use truck stuff cause i have it, f body parts would blow the budget :)
That steering shaft and notching the exhaust are a nice, neat solution.

The jeep u joint style steering shaft swap is nice been doing it for long time it will also fit in 88 to 98 chevy trucks .
Nice work Rob.... That'll work nicely....
Good job

transam197781 no it cleared fine
cool thanks for the info
I think I saw some shortie headers on eBay for like 150 I think don't remember but seems like that might be pretty good to use but I guess basically free is free and would probably be about the same thing
James Holbrook ya trying to keep a low budget on this build.
The build is coming along good Rob, nothing better than seeing backyard build's love it. Question are you using the Jeep, steering shaft because you are going turbo? Sean Clancey on mikes s15 with aftermarket headers the stock shaft rubs the header. A smaller shaft would give more clearance
Ok thanks i will keep an eye out for a smaller shaft.
+Sean Clancey :O
When you read it don't seem right lol
Nice clean work Rob, as always. 👍🏻
hay guys,i see its coming along just fine, rob your fabricating is great, even if i say so myself.i cant wait to see the completed job keep them videos coming, thanks mike elcamino bye
Rob is making it great, keep it up guys!
SMASHED!
What are these manifolds off of?
Nice work Rob ! gett'n shit done !
some good heat shield wrap for the header and it should be fine ;) ...
Nice work!!!!! That truck was already cool, now its gonna be awesome!
Hey guys another way to make the manifold fit better is to angle mill the flange on the manifold where it bolts to the head..

Awesome clayton..
I remember one of y'all guys saying something about machining for a living or past experience in it
Looking good !! Don't tell rob something can't be done 👍
Manifold might help drop ITA slightly compared to custom stainless steel headers
Great job. Keep making videos
no head bolts = external combustion engine😁 looks good
Love all the work guys keep it up 👌
Mate! (rear mount the trubo) 🏆👍
way more of a pain and not worth it

These Jeep steering shaft are very common mods to 1979-1996 Caprices/Impalas lol
I wish my nova could use this, then my headers would clear
You rock! Keep it up
Nice hurry up with next video.
+fake name lol. Tomorrow or the next day.
Rob, looks really good. Thumbs up. From the camera angle, it's difficult to tell if you'll be able too sneak by the steering shaft... How is the clearance at getting to #7 spark plug?
SethRocksYou there is good clearance to number 7
Rob you handled that shaft quite well. Mike has some trump hands and your shaft probably look bigger in his hands
When is the plow going to be ready? ... Looking forward to see it plow the drive.
even though you made it to fit, i'm still cautioning that the linkage would get pretty hot being so close to the manifolds. So i think it will work but question is , for how long and at what temp's would it reach being so close.
DarkKokoro84 lol are you trolling?
*any bracing needed for the heavy turbo ? or will the exhaust pipes just hold it up ??*
CR2504life the turbo is not that heavy, it seems pretty sturdy but i might add a brace
manifolds pointing down as god intended :)
Looking good ,thinking a metal heat shield is in order for the PS lines and box but I am sure you have already thought of that.

Damn...the only time in Rob's life where the shaft was too thick...
Put a power steering cooler on it
Billy Tart lol
Nice!
lol
It need one that close yo exhaust
That shit going to be boiling
What size v band are those?
Malik 2 1/2
novaracer2000 thanks
What brand and size v bands are you using on the exhaust manifolds?
Paul Mitchell they are 2 1/2 from summit racing
Love your channel
Great vids guys! Sometimes the value of watching is to show one what you DON'T want to do...like cooking your suspension and steering components for the sake of cosmetics!
What?
I bet you shaft looks small in claytons hands
Bloody bewty...will the engine flex on the mounts much when smashing the limiter...concerned about clearanc on my own build...trying not to think about it to much really.
Clint Collins use a limiting strap if needed.
Home Theater Junky yeah ill have to google that one to see what it is mate.
They use solid mounts, So if you use solid engine mounts no it wont flex, but if you use rubber yes it will. Just make sure if you use solid engine mounts you use a rubber trans mount. Clint Collins im not using a solid mount but im tryimg to build clearance into everything so nothing rubs.
novaracer2000 i geuss im just venting my own concerns with clearance in my build and knowing your going thru similar if not worse problem solving in this area also. That's what she said 4:10 lmfao x2
Let her rip Clayton.!!!
can you STOP doing that?!
sirgallium WTF?
it's what rob said after clayton let his burp rip
good job can you call my phone I would like to talk to you over the phone about some stuff
