As a 52 year old lady I would like to learn about motors and how they are in so I really appreciate your videos. Please keep it up. Maybe I can learn how to do my own repairs. lol. Why not?

Yeahhh you’ll do it with that mentality. Since 2021 I’ve learned ALOT. Still have yet to crack into my first engine but this is probably the 500th video I’ve watched of several different engines. Gettin pretty confident

I rebuilt my 5.3 with 140k miles on it. Replaced the piston rings, honed the cylinder walls, changed the valve springs on the head, cam bearings and main bearings. I didn't measure for clearance; LOL, I mean it was all stock. No issues at all, still running like new again. I did put a small cam, Chopacabra cam. That is all the mods it has along with airaid intake tube.

I went to college for automotive restoration and I spent a lot of time rebuilding engines and I’ve done over 10 cam and lifter jobs accompanied by oil pumps on LS engines and I’ve never heard of anyone aligning the oil pump until today. That is such an amazing idea. Thank you so much for this information

Looks nIce FYI per GM bulletin, those O2 rubber plugs where they meet the lifter valley cover. Pull them up add a bead of silicon around the meeting surface and push them back on. Helps prevent water intrusion in case of washing engine down the road or water splashing in from who knows what. Water running in from the back cowl and down on the intake manifold and finding its way down to the valley cover. Also if you are using a car water pump with truck accessories then just use ICT billet water pump spacer and it will all work.

While it probably won't matter with your engine, something to pay attention to is the piston pin circlip position. You normally want the opening to be at a 12 or 6 o'clock position. This stops the circlip from compressing at higher rpm when the piston changes direction faster which, if the opening is in the 3 or 6 o'clock position, allows the circlip to compress and potentially unseat itself.

  • @rxcalvosa

I was cringing a little when you slid the con-rods down the bore. It's real easy to nick something on the way down, especially if you're a little shakey, like me. That's why I always put a little bit of neoprene tubing on the studs.

  • @stevendouglas6593

Nicely Done! Thank you. Adjustable piston compressors...Oh you got that right. I used one when I rebuilt my sons Mazda engine. They don't clamp circular and exactly as you said, flimsy sides, either the piston or the rings jamming on the deck. It was just 4 cyc's so I stuck with it, but never again. Rebuilding my Chevy 3800 engine and getting one from Summit. Buying a 2006 Silverado with a L33 I'll rebuild and will get one from Summit for that. Nicely Done, Very Nicely Done!

how EASY is it to fit TURBO UNDER A GBODY HOOD?
i just swapped in a 5.3 LS to my 85 cutlass a few yrs ago.
its mostly running 100% except a p0154 code for 02 sensor and still gets 19 mpg city despite running open loop because of this, probly cuz i dont abuse it or get obnoxious on the gas cuz i have a very loud rumbling exhaust and ESPECIALLY 2.23 rear gears.
BUT it barely lay a patch off the line cuz of those gears :-(
in other words it needs either more power or 3.53 rearend which will also require a OD tranny too
Anew rearend setup and tranny will likely cost me from 1500-3000 bucks canadain.
can i turbo this for cheaper and fit under stock hood?

Great vid Austin. Just a time saver, you don't need to shim oil pump. Simply install oil pump, finger tight bolts, turn motor 360°to align gears, then torque bolts. Milling has video explaining this also.
    th-cam.com/video/zzz6NkXTq24/w-d-xo.htmlsi=sasfYPIIm7b2UlAS th-cam.com/video/zzz6NkXTq24/w-d-xo.htmlsi=sasfYPIIm7b2UlAS

“Aligning” this oil pump is unnecessary. The tolerance between the outer gear and the inner gear is less than that between the outer gear and the housing. It’s floating so it’s designed to only ride on the inner gear. You only run into an issue here when there is an absence of oil in the pump and tolerance between the gears is changed. It doesn’t hurt I suppose, just unnecessary
