    I can see where Battinson might take inspiration from this story. Seeing as it's a younger, inexperienced Batman and he's actually showcasing his detective skills.

  • @wybub
    @wybub ปีที่แล้ว +221

    I feel like Pattinson actually did read this and enjoyed it, because this story is just weird enough that he'd love it and draw some esoteric knowledge out of it.

    • @j.j.4150
      @j.j.4150 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Agreed. He also named Batman: Returns as his favorite Batman movie. I believe him, he just digs some of the more weird/obscure kind of elements.

    • @ryan.craig816
      @ryan.craig816 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      Yeah, you can tell from the interviews leading up to the premiere that he read a ton of Batman comics like he said he did, with this and Court of Owls being his two favorites.
      When he, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright and Zoe Kravitz did the Vanity Fair fan theories episode, they had to pause because Pattinson and Dano were having their own nerdy Convo about a Batman comic Pattinson recommended.
      I like Sal but I think he's sometimes too quick to judge.

    I'm pretty sure Sal knows this but I'ma say it anyway: Gordon's personality in this comic actually does track with how Pre Crisis Jim treated Bruce. In one of the first Detective Comics Jim does THIS EXACT THING and invites Bruce Wayne to an active crime scene. It's kinda crazy

    I think it’s great that Robert Pattinson said this was one of his favorites. I’m glad he didn’t say something like The Dark Knight Returns which was been played out to death by everyone who says they read comics but they actually just read the greatest hits. It showed me he actually read a bunch of different stories.

    In defence of Pattinson’s defence. As a Canadian, who shares more imports and publishing deals with the UK. (We were a former colony who were given independence rather than go to war for it).
    Our local libraries had a library edition collection of Batman books, and the featured comic, with its art on the hardcover, was Batman Shaman. I read this countless times as a kid, and I’d confidently say this copy was published in the UK (most of our library edition collections were).
    I will also say, Batman is often portrayed as being still and stoic in this book, it’s artistically very moody and gothic (jump to 25:07 )

    This did turn out to be a really cool story. I actually like that Bruce ended up telling the story because this is still a young, inexperienced Bruce. He spent all those years honing his body and mind, but that doesn't translate to being socially conscious in any way. I like that he ended up thoughtlessly doing something pretty boneheaded and then had to see and live with the consequences. But what I LOVED was the conclusion to the whole cult plot. I love seeing Batman really go to great lengths to spread his legend as this pseudo-supernatural being. Having stories like this permeating the environment lends credence to the idea that Batman would be considered an urban legend. And it also was just pure awesome.

    Wow, the rare L take from Sal. I LOVE this book, and so do any Batman fans that I let borrow it. I really enjoy those early LoTDK books before they became done-in-ones. They not only are self contained and easy to read, but they somehow capture that same feeling of reading year one. It made the mythos feel more real than it had before, and for the most part, since. I also enjoy how they have a slight hint of the supernatural like with Mr. Whisper or the Shaman, but leaves the door open for you to be a non-believer. Kind of like JMS's Spider-Man but less forced.
    Also, unflattering portrayal of Native Americans? Where? Just because minorities are in an old work of art doesn't make it racist.
    I could believe Pattinson read it too, it's not THAT obscure, early in continuity, similar in tone to The Batman, and made to be approachable
    EDIT: he sort of came around by the end of the video
