To explain it for Ethan, Stick can see everything that people with sight can see. Except he doesn't see like we do. He releases a sonic wave from his mouth. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuugh! There. If I were Stick, I would've gotten a pretty good look at you. Especially if you were a target.
At the hooker part, I was hoping for Tiffany to slide into frame and go “and then a hooker stabs him” and the Sal goes “no he actually kicks her out a window and she dies”. And then Tiffany looks all shocked and goes “oh”… And then slowly moves off screen
This is my favorite comic of all time. I've read this title cover to backflap more times then my Bible. Season one of the show is incredible. It does this mini series so much justice. The first time I saw episode 2 of the show, I was in tears. The way Matt lifts his mask to not scare the boy, the way he says "let's get you home to your dad." to let him know everything was gonna be OK and the emotions i got from it. It's the same comfort i feel from that single page splash of Matt standing in the rain. Listening in on those goons telling the parents that they may never see their daughter again after 72 hours. With almost no dialog Matt stands there thinking, "The police wont find that little girl, but I will..". No thought bubble, just a still image and a feeling of hope. Thats what this book does for me.
Back Issues on Wednesday make my week bearable. Especially since I get so little personal writing done during the week, the creativity you display both in your descriptions of stories and the works you review is inspiring. Thank you for that. It makes me glad to be a Patreon. One question on the Fall from Grace: Was that the book that had Kingpin working out when he realizes Daredevil was coming for him and through "a man without hope is a man without fear"? I've been looking for that issue for a long time. I distinctly recall Kingpin sitting and lifting weights, without a shirt because we ALL need to see WIlson's sweaty Fisk.
Since I discovered ComicPop (then TV Little House) in 2015, I've fallen back into reading comics hard. I've got up update my records, but I'd say nearly 100 episodes of Back Issues feature floppies and trades I've picked up in that time. Daredevil: Man Without Fear is one of those trades.
Loved this episode. Daredevil is always a good time whenever he's on Back Issues. He's my favourite superhero but he's a such a pain in the butt. I always feel sorry for his friends.
After quite a few weeks of being stressed for exams, a backissues on the origin of one of my favorite heroes couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Godbless comic pop crew
@@mikhaelgribkov4117 looks to me like he played way too much Minecraft. There’s little fluidity in his pencils anymore. Just straight lines and 90 degrees angles with slight curvature. Not a fan of his recent/current work.
Sal: “I hear what you’re saying, I really do… I hope you don’t get offended when I do the complete opposite.” 😂I’m gonna turn that line into a whole meme😂
Whilst I prefer Daredevil to not be a killer, to me this story rides a great line by showing things like the stuff Matt does as a child, then what he does to his father's killers, the whole Typhoid Mary bit and Foggy's bully, there's something very haunting and unsettling about Daredevil as a presence in this story. He really feels like an unstable character who just so happens to have some degree of morality. Someone like Spider-Man will obviously never go that far, and for the likes of Punisher it's the norm or even tame, I like the scary uncertainty to this iteration of Daredevil where you don't know how far he'll go, and he really does feel like this almost ghostly force at work in New York.
I like that younger Matt is reckless enough to get people like Typhoid Mary getting killed, and Stick leaving him behind right after his father gets killed. It shows the collateral damage of a rookie crime fighter, but he still has his morals. I just wish this version of Matt wasn’t so ok with leaving goons to drown during the pier fight against the traffickers. Matt had a lot of darkness in this series, and Elektra was a bit psychotic off the bat, when she should start off with a little bit of innocence. I do appreciate the edginess to Miller’s retelling. Very 80s comic vibe, with a touch of Batman year one, but for Daredevil.
@@sweetchristmas92 Yeah I think it's a hard line to ride. I prefer Daredevil to not be a killer at all, but I'm not against the idea that a younger him is reckless and gets people killed, but him actively getting a guy to shoot himself is a bit too far for me. Then again, taking this story in as its own thing, it works for that story.
@@tomtudorweaver1078 True, I really love the tone and artwork here, and I’m willing to look away at times, the deflecting the bullet scene, I can kinda forgive, because he begged him not to keep shooting, and was solely trying to protect Mickey. In Born Again, Matt blows up a helicopter in self defense when Nuke and his goons were spraying bullets and hell fire into the city. Moments like that are forgivable, and it is under Miller’s writing, it’s just hard to see him so messy in an origin story, but it is it’s own thing while being kind of canon.
@@sweetchristmas92 Its own thing whilst also being canon is a good way to put it, the details may vary but the basic story beats definitely carry over. As I said I like the balance with Daredevil here, he's not as dark as say, the Punisher, but he's no Spider-Man either, he feels like a good middle ground.
@@tomtudorweaver1078 True, a good comeback story during the 90s which was a weird time for Daredevil and other superhero characters. This was definitely intended to be a late 80s story.
I loved this episode! Love any bit of DD we get on the couch. Speaking of Chichester, I’m currently doing a read-through of every DD comic from Miller to present day, and I found a perfect book for the couch. Daredevil: Last Rites. It’s Chichester’s Anti-Born Again, but for Kingpin. Also, anything Nocenti is just so great and has wonderful JRJR pencils!
This is such an amazing show to watch if you want recommendations or just want to know more about a comic/character. The group are all so fun to watch and it’s so entertaining

This comic sounds awesome. But wow, I had no idea Electra was so...crazy. I had always imagined her being more of a stoic assassin type like Wolverine, so this came as a huge shock to me.
Loved this episode and I love this story! I collected them about 6 years ago and really enjoyed the story. The Billy Club bullet deflection banter is on point 😂
11:35 ngl i really love the idea of Stan wondering if he's going to piss of blind people because would't the obvious answer be well they aren't reading your comics their blind lol. Now yeah they ended up making in in braille but like let's say for example 17:53 you can read this panel in braille but would the blind people get that he's jumped out a window because it doesn't mention it.
I'd say Mickey did a solid job at being both victimized and contributing to her own saving. Like, she's been knocked out and taken somewhere by bad people, they steal her clothes and redress her, all that stuff. And the whole time she's subtly leaving a trail for Matt to follow. Probably terrified the whole time, but still managing that little, critical bit. It's not really glamorous. There's no moment where she faces off with one of the sub-bosses and wins, or something like that. But still, she uses her brain and provides the means by which Matt can save her. I'd say that's a solid introduction to build on if you ever wanted to do something with an older iteration of her.
