I agree with you about the importance of PvP in a game like RS3. Unfortunately, I think EoC is just fundamentally unfit for PvP, no matter how much ‘balancing’ they do. The introduction of EoC was a definite middle finger to a huge portion of players at the time, including all the people who played for PvP.
So I got a few theories on the latter 6 months of the year or in particular 3 big ones and this is based off of Jmod Interviews, messages on Twitter and their posts on Discord. The last few weeks they have been hinting that something massive has happening behind the scenes based off of Jmod Spyro, Jmod Pips, and a few others for the last 3 months. My first theory is a Shadow God Wars. I don't know if you have been following lore content posted by Prideslayer whose been a Lorehound and has recently been getting into PvM a lot. Jagex has been slowly creeping up this almighty entity that smacks arounds Gods and Elder Gods like their peanuts on the side of a road known as Xau Tuk for the last couple years. I don't think we will get him as a boss but there's a real chance that we see his minions who have started to pop up in the most recent lore stuff. My theory is we get some massive quests that lead to an invasion by some of these entities from that realm. With this introduction this could also lead to more Necromancy 2 content in my opinion. My second theory is that they've been developing a lot of the islands in RuneScape 3 for Sailing. We just got Raellka updated, Ungael added as a new island, Lunar Isle is being graphically reworked (based on a Jmod posting on X/Twitter) and I wouldn't be surprised if more get updated since Mos Le Harmless was an option for the graphical rework (based off a poll for the gamejam several months ago of what to do for graphical rework which Raellka won). I think this one is realistically going to be the theme of RuneFest which will probably be how Jagex likes to do it where they have the same theme as OSRS (like Anachronia/Fossil Island for the last Runefest) so I don't think we will get it this year. My third theory is Leagues for RuneScape 3. I think we would have a much cooler Leagues concept for RuneScape 3 that I would play like crazy and we know its successful in Old School RuneScape so its an awesome idea. Please no FSW, because it will convince so many veterans to play hard again and its really good publicity since it will convince all the Veterans and OSRS players to grind it. So from your wants I don't want an Avatar rework or Clan citadel update, too few people would honestly care about it from the majority of the playerbase. Sure Avatar rework would be cool but then a good chunk of the veterans will complain its buggy af or the older version was much better. I think its better to just graphically rework their landscapes as is because that means we could potential new content for those areas again since they don't look 15+ years old anymore.
Problem with the talk at ~10:20 is that subscriptions is actually the major source of income for jagex, and OSRS is currently pulling a lot more subs than RS3 does - OSRS is also a lot cheaper and quicker to make updates for. It's the unfortunate reality of the situation and it doesn't help that some RS3 Jmods be hopping over onto the OSRS team too.
You're absolutely correct, OSRS does make Jagex more money than RS3 through their sub count, especially after this year, but that's not exactly related to the point I was trying to make. My point was, Jagex is likely to make more per player on RS3 than OSRS, the unfortunate reality of MTX. To clarify with an example, let's say in a hypothetical through focused dev time that either OSRS gains 30,000 players or RS3 gains 15,000 players. Jagex would likely make a greater return from RS3, even with less players coming in, because the players have more avenues to spend money on, not only from the new players, but from the old, existing ones as well. Of course, feel free to disagree! It's just my opinion on the matter. I love OSRS as a game, and I'm very glad it is succeeding, because both games are on the same team. I just want Jagex to give a little more dev time to RS3, ideally without losing anyone from OSRS.
@@sgtyellowtail No, in that regard I'm with you and agree - and don't get me wrong, I'm an RS3 player not an OSRS player x) I too hope to see RS3 grow. Was just a matter of clarity/wording that made it seem as though you were suggesting the good ole' 'rs3 mtx keeps OSRS alive' argument that is often brought up even though it's (kinda unfortunately?) not true. Your reply clarified it well though - and I'm completely with you in regards to the per-player potential income differences of the games ^^
