  • Solo Canoes are the best! We are having so much fun showing ultralight canoes to people again. We do part demo and part #canoeclass with each outing.
This canoe demo has been a frequent shoot out for me this season. Small to mid-sized paddlers often are drawn to these two canoes from Northstar Canoes. But, as you will see later in the vid, these are also really fun canoes for average to even larger paddlers who have some skills and want a nimble craft. We have so much fun showing you these #solocanoes and hope that it helps you in your quest for the perfect canoe. We have also added a few help #paddlingtips along the way.
If you want to see one canoe vs the other, just let us know in the comments and we'll try to get to it.
The awesome sun shirt I’m wearing in this video and many others has become my "go to" for hot days on the water. The zipper pockets are awesome to make sure you don't lose valuables.

The Northstar Trillium is the smaller sister to the NW solo. The Firebird is the smaller sister to the Phoenix. Both canoes are around 26-27 lbs. If you delve into the specs, you'll notice that while the Trillium is a foot longer than the firebird, it is 1" shallower bow/mid/stern and a 1/2 narrower at that max width. I also find that the cockpit is a bit fuller in the Firebird with gives it a different feel. Especially on edge.
Stay tuned for more #canoeinstruction ! We are just getting started!

ADK Solo owner here. Very happy with it! Done a few overnight 7+ mile paddles with it. Kayak paddle and I'm easily able to keep up with friend in his NW Solo on flat water.

I picked up my Blacklight Firebird in April. Paddled it perhaps a dozen days. I immediately made new kneeling drops and did a bit better than factory sanding, then more Watco. The boat performs better than my abilities but I'll just keep watching your videos and learn the paddle techniques. Wish me luck.
oh, & because I have the solo bug, I have a Hemlock Peregrine on order.

T3 I’m super jealous. A firebird is $1500 ouf of my budget. Lol. Let us know how the peregrine compares

Thank you this was helpful. I was stuck deciding between these two but I think you've gotten me unstuck and leaning toward the Trillium for my needs. Thanks!

Have you ever used a foot brace with the Trillium?

I usually set up their boat for Kneeling personally and then when I do sit in it it is not for extended amount of times but if you plan to sit exclusively a foot brace is a nice addition. I always order my magics that way.
