NEW ELECTRIC VAN from BYD with hints of The Arrival Van

- @BYDEurope Will be launching a LARGE VAN that will of course be all electric! You cant escape the fact that it is remarkably similar to the @ARRIVALUK Van that did not quite get to market
There will two types
1. Electric delivery van
2. Electric Large Panel Van
Slightly different configurations but essential the same basic vehicle with either a cavernous 18m cube or a slightly smaller but still very big 14m cubed.
An 80kWh battery, giving around 160 miles of range will probably need to have an upgrade option to gain ground on competitors. Their "Blade battery" technology will answer the worry about #battery and THERMAL RUNAWAY, as it seems impossible to make that to happen with this battery!
Drivers will be happy as they jump behind the wheel of this well laid out van for sure, but we weren’t allowed to put that on camera for now!
All in all a great first stab at a large van for the European market for this #chinese manufacturer
Please please please. This is what tradesmen want. Simple functionality. Lots of flat surfaces. And BYD can actually make this van affordable and in quantity.
The cab area is really good. Although I was not allowed to film it, I did get to look around it and it felt very practical and useable!
I want one.
@@richiesd1No you don't
I like BYD vehicles
This van would make a hell of a camper van.
@@Darkmatter321 I think there are many who think the same!
Yep. I need this van in the states. The tariffs are so stupid. I wonder what price it will sell for in the states minus dealer markups. I live in Texas, so cold extreme weather isn’t common. Also I don’t plan to travel far with it unlike most campers. I just want to get rid of my house due to property taxes, annual fees, maintenance, etc., thus saving $. I can always park it at the homes of my relatives. They don’t mind. I will keep my current car to run errands, etc. but leave my camper van at their driveway. I can always find a charging station when it comes to charging or even charge at their homes.
That’s the first thing that came to mind (I’m a full-time vanlifer). Absolutely would buy an ev van especially one that tall and with that much space.
This might cost half the price of a sprinter van, maybe less.
its a bit of untabbed territory for China that is long over-dued for affordable innovative products. I am hoping that companies such BYD or the like will make headway on that product range.
The world's best pickup BYD shark
I can vouch for BYD. Gone are the days of stuff from China being cheap and nasty.
They've learnt how to build good automobile's
Their cars have taken off really well in the west. Their battery tech is leading the way and this Van did seem like a quality addition. We will see once it hits the road
@@electricvanmanwe here in the states need BYD. This will drop prices for all EVs. Tesla will be forced to innovate even more
Much like the historic examples of 1970's Japan & more recently Korea, while Europe et al, appears to have dozed off.
3 BYD showrooms burnt down in China this year so far.
Just sayin'
China is undisupted king of manufacturing now, there are shops that can still make cheap products if that's all you can affort, but they also the home to the most advanced manufactoring facilities that produces that leading edge electronic goods such as your Apple products, DJI drones, EVs, Robovacs and everything inbetween. No country in the world have the same breath, flexibility and supply chain in one geological location. Even if you consider the whole EU bloc.
BYD builds the London electric bus amongst many many many others 😊😊😊
They also build EV trucks and bus in Lanchester, California 😂
I see a Campervan!
They are definitely not going after your Campers!!! Definitely Not, get that dirty thought out of brain 😜
LOL, same here, if this is available in the US. the sprinter van would look like from 200 years ago
Very nice Review 👌Hoping it will come to the Philippines.
@@EandP. well I do think it is hitting Auz first so maybe from there?
Looks cool, thanks for the video
If your country wants the energy transition to really take place, tell your elected leaders to not sanction China at random.
Well said
Their low prices will kill domestic brands.
I've seen BYD T5 light truck in the clip which is considered as the perfect base for campers with build in battery and V2L. And the length is less than 6m which means it's more easier to drive (In China this means you can drive it with normal car license). Many Chinese camper manufactures are trying to modify it with the support of BYD official.

@@inquisitvem6723 What I'm saying is this one. th-cam.com/video/IwAHEKw3RAc/w-d-xo.html. Converted from BYD T5 light truck (around 130k CNY which is under U$ 20k), not from this van. it cost around 300k CNY which is around U$ 42k in China.
New T5DM can give you up to 1000Km range.
Great E mobile home...what we need in NZ with 250 kms range or more
Smart for companies that can charge nighttime. Dont ever have to loose time fueling in daytime. Every morning car is fully tanked . Taking your work car home and plug it in.
When will there be a motorhome / VAN conversion based on this platform?
it needs a bigger battery like 150kwh minimum.
I like its looks, it's very simple but thats what makes it look so kind and honest
Such good stuff, keep it up!
thye have top batteries. also have the looks, not bad, with a black paint would look really good
When U.S. politicians talk about transitioning to an electric economy, it raises the question: why aren’t Chinese electric vehicles allowed in the market? It makes me question the sincerity of their commitment to this vision.
Sincerity and politicians in the same sentence?
Listen and you will know why. You should know by now.
The roof area must be 2.2 x 6m = 15 sq metres...for solar panels. That will give this van lots of extra juice if sun is out..
China can easily make solar panels sized just to fit on this vehicle!
@@Anonymous------ may as well include a horizontal wind generator too into leading edge..so another source of free power is sucked up.!
@@kenyahawkins2472
Yes, the more use of free energy the better. Someone should develop a wind catcher electric generator designed to fit onto vehicles without taking too much space on the vehicle and blocking air flow.
@@Anonymous------ BYD engineers?
Even if it's 2 x 5 m = 10 sqm, that's plenty enough for a camper while trickle-charging the battery.
It is easy to be critical. But it looks much better than ICE vans designed to be converted to EV.
It wont be a long distance van, but great for local businesses or trades. As ever the issue will be price, and i know leasing is the way but for small businesses having monthly overheads is less desirable than owning outright sometimes.
In my own experience i bought a plug in hybrid as 25% of my journeys are last minute 100s miles. But the other 80% i can do on the 35-40mile EV only part.
The error is to think people can afford EVs as a second car at those prices.
Taken decades for the Dacia spring for example that gets laughed at bit is actually one of the most important EVs for the price.
Vans seem to have fallen through the cracks but are actually the most important EVs out there for city driving and miles.

Make a good Camping Van!!
@@simonpannett8810 yup I think you may well be right! There is a lot of space. Nice and square too
Yeah perfect for vanlife and save money on rent 😊
Exactly my first thought!
Would need a bigger battery maybe 150Kwh people would pay for the bigger battery even if it added 5K to the van but gave it much more range and capacity to be used for cooking and a compressor fridge. Heating could still be gas / electric hook up but off grid with some decent solar on the roof would make this an excellent tourer. Electric drive would be so powerful nice and quite too. I am sure EV vans will hit the Campervan market soon.

Glad you said "Arrival"

The BYD van is a FAR bigger deal than anyone in the West recognizes. Tradesmen and local delivery put down much higher miles than ordinary passenger cars. It's going to be fantastic in China and around the world, just completely crush the European delivery vans.
And what about the dm-i phev system in Byd van?
Let's hope so
I think the problem is that a commercial van needs to drive the rear wheels, which means a driveshaft from a front engine (for the radiator) to the rear axle. If the vehicle wasn't designed for that driveshaft, you can't retrofit it.
@@ZweiZwolf commercial vans don't need to be rear wheels drive. There are some examples: Renault Máster, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Junper
@@joseluisortsagullo3008 They absolutely need to be RWD if they're going to tow anything or carry heavy cargo. FWD is fine for low load use cases, but you're not going to do heavy industrial materials hauling in one. You're not towing a boat or trailer with one. If you just need what's basically a really big passenger car, that's fine. But it's not what I'd even consider for heavier commercial transport.
Does it do V2L inside? I would guess then it would be the true perfect tradesmen van...
It was not clear but it is something that many others do - let’s hope!
@@electricvanman thanks for answering! I hope the OEMs are reading this... I saw in a different post that Iveco/Hyundai are at least offering this by adapter on the outside. But I would hope they put a standard outlet in the back of the van. 😉
Please please please make it 4x4 so I can have a mobile on-site office that I can take on unmade roads.
Can it come with PV panels on the roof?
Easy to install diy.
@@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity There are a couple of DIY electric vans out there which have "stacked" PV panels which can be extended when parked. You get much more surface area and of course more watts, plus awnings.
@@glennmartin6492 we do fit solar panels to cans already here in the UK, even in some diesel vans, so certainly from an aftermarket point of view. Who knows maybe the manufacturers will get in on the act

It's a shame Arrival ran out of money.
Surely a van OVER 3.5 t will require a tachograph , and the driver will require an LGV license and a CPC 🤔
@@johnshaw4140 there is an allowance for alternative fueled vehicles to run at up 4.25t from the government. There are a few rules around that but these are all under consultation and it is expected that fairly soon they will gone and it will be exactly the same as 3.5 diesel’s. So B1 is ok for these with a 5hr training course currently but this has already been agreed to be removed… just waiting for the legislation to catch up

Someone make an EV vehicle and van with changeable battery packs, you just cant run some businesses with limited range vehicles, you need to be able tp go back to your home base or depot and swap out a battery pack and get back on the road, esp delivery vehicles,
@@Johnnybananass-_ it is certainly something that I would like to see but I think the use cases will be less than expected making it more costly by virtue of low volume
There are already full-size trucks with swappable battery packs.
@@ZweiZwolf we need to work out if and how it could work for this size of vehicle. Trucks have more predictable routes etc
@@electricvanman Almost all local delivery trucks are on fixed routes or stay so close to base that long range doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that they recharge every night.
EVs are not practical for longer distances and what happens to the range when the lights and heater are on ? In Britain it’s cold and dark for quite a few months every year!
@@Eric_L456 the range is reduced from the predicted in the winter, primarily due to the cold. That said the average daily journey is less than 100 miles so this should still hit the spot for many

For vehicles doing rounds the mileage and therefore value propersition is already known, add that there is a second possible revenue steam selling the power back to the grid when they return to the yard (at peak prices) make these a tempting propersition. There are other unique points too such as the silent running allowing deliveries 24*7 or the battery power being available to run tools and equipment
