Normally we set the jelly with the sponge fingers in the liquid jelly so it absorbs slightly and then the fingers don’t float. Pineapple and kiwi will stop the jelly setting. When we make one at Christmas you can drizzle a little alcohol on the sponge fingers before adding the jelly. When I was a child, my family used tinned fruit salad in with the jelly.
I haven't had that since a child it was always made at Christmas time in our family, but it was made with English jelly not jelly crystals..Now you can buy little individual cups of them .
Hey Tami and kevin i'm so pleased you showed the video of the trifle mix I sent you. I never thought about separating the trifle into bowls and then adding the sprinkles as we call them in UK. Years ago when popular we used to have chocolate, carnival and even a luxury trifle with alcohol added to it. You did a great job so I'm heading to your place in the states for Thanksgiving or Christmas ha ha. No you did a great job and Kevin I was only joking at your previous attempt with the custard in the last video. I am ready to send off two other comparison desserts but I am not telling you what they are, so watch out for this. I really appreciate the comments about my trifle mix and I am so pleased that I had a go at making this. Thanks to you both. You've changed the ending music at the end I've noticed. Chris M UK
This is a delicious and pretty dessert and I would be happy to make this and serve it up to family n company. Thanks for making it and tasting it. Thanks Chris. Enjoy a fun n happy day.
Re your suggestions of what to add to the jelly, avoid pineapple and kiwi cause the enzymes just dissolve the gelatine and prevent it from setting. Also better to add the sponge fingers when the jelly mix is hot, from someone who ate trifle for pudding at Christmas growing up.
Brilliant..reminds me of my birthdays years ago , loved the dream topping never was enough of it , my Mum used to buy a extra packet of dream topping so everybody got some ( they still do the single packets of dream topping saw some recently when shopping )
Screams 70’s Xmas dessert for me. Normally the fingers/sponge cake are soaked in alcohol. I pick these up ready made in single servings when in the mood. Thanks for sending this in Chris! Thanks for the review.
Years ago Aiden they did have a trifle from the birds range called Carnival flavour and it did have an orange or was it banana custard with orange Jelly. No orange wedges though just hundred and thousands or should I say sugar strands as we do in UK. Chris M UK
@@aidenalamo6262 Sadly the flavour now only seems to be in strawberry, rasberry and I think chocolate, but they used to be banana flavour, fruit cocktail and I think and orange one I mentioned and a selection of luxury trifles with alcohol. Chris M UK
Hello ,thanks for the video of Birds Strawberry Trifle . My father is from England and talks about Trifle all the time . I have a question if you would please answer as I'm going to order some from the U.K. When you said a pint of milk did you use our standard pint of 16 ounces or did you go by the British pint which is 20 ounces ?
@@TamiDunn Ah but can I jump in, have you tried the special unicorn and dinasour edition packs. No well if you haven't that's what I am sending. Chris M UK

I think they should make that part of their directions so the fingers don't float :)
The fingers are supposed to float, they are not supposed to be at the bottom 🙂

Soaked in alcohol would be delicious!
I can picture an orange flavoured Birds Trifle Kit. In that, an orange custard with orange jelly and sliced orange wedges without outer orange peel.
That sounds delicious!

Someone sent me a measuring cup from the UK and I used it. So, it was 20 ounces :)
I do like a Bird's Trifle. They also do a chocolate one, but I like the strawberry one best!
Looks very refreshing.
Today’s my birthday 🥳🎂🎈🎈😊Thanks for a good video.
Happy birthday
Happy birthday!
Drain a tin of fruit cocktail and add that to the jelly and add a drop of sherry , MMMMM
That would be quicker! Thanks for the tip!
About the floating fingers. Soak them in a bit of rum. 😂
Great idea!
The box trifle is better without fruit , these were so popular in the UK in the 70’s & 80’s ❤
What is the size of your trifle bowl
4 quarts
Put trifle back into fridge for another 30mns before serving . This firms the custard up
good old trifle just a small suggestion best to have it chilled
Thank you for watching!
I'm in Thailand, don't know how to prepare ...bought it aiready.
Looks really good. I'd eat straight out the bowl tho 😅
We actually discussed doing just that! Ha! Ha!
Be careful adding fresh fruit in the jelly as it might not set properly.
Thank you for the warning.
Tami why has the music changed at the end of the videos. Any reason. Chris M UK
When I do recipe videos, I normally change the music.

Adult version. Pour small measure of sherry over sponge fingers.
Have you tried Angel delight before?
Yes! We have reviewed Strawberry, White Chocolate & Butterscotch 😊
