How does our Budget Turbo F150 stack up against a new EcoBoost F150?

- We had an idea to compare our Budget Turbo F150 "Precoboost/pre-ecoboost" to a newer Ecoboost f150 and see if they're remotely close in terms of performance. Both are Ford v6 turbo trucks separated by 2 decades of technology. This was meant to be fun and in no way an actual serious comparison but the trucks actually ended up being somewhat close performance wise. Hope you enjoyed!

Trust me, I beat mine so bad that I was at one point going out of my way to blow it up, never did though. Probably nearly as hard to kill as my gen 1 coyote (still mean to my trucks lol)
Them late 90 early 00’s v6’s we’re something else ford Chevy and Toyota
They're just stroked Essex 3.8 engines so yeah they are tough and reliable.
I vote 4.2 wins for sheer fact its still running. I don't want to give you guys any ideas but a 2step + straight pipe would equal a fun time for the 4th.
Love these budget builds.
The 4.2 is a solid engine, reliable.
Just a pain in the ass to work on.
Now pit it against a Coyote 5 liter 😏

I miss my old 4.2. I ran that thing HARD and it never gave me any issues. Only the slave cylinder for the clutch.

1000+hp easily but tuning is a nightmare. The 4.6 2v was used in supercars with minimal modifications pushing 600hp easily, it's big brother is also receptive to boost 😂

I had a 2000 f150 with a 4.2 v6 and though it never got boosted it did see some hot limiter action and had 240k miles on it when I sold it. Good trucks and good motors

I'm impressed that it lived. Would love to see what it could do with a nice kit and proper tuning, or aftermarket ecu. Would be equally cool in the truck, or Volvo.

In the tow acceleration test I’d say the budget one won, because it accelerated so hard the car fell off
*Had a 1998 4.2 in an e150... 275,000k miles and was still running great with no codes when i sold it...theyre good engines and great on fuel*
I had one with 312,000 rotted the frame engine ran like a champ

That breakup in 4th is probably a result of over fueling.
The stock fuelpump and maf are maxed out. Definitely not over fueling
4.2 swap Volvo, let's go. that's sick build idea and i bet used 4.2 v6 are cheap case was combust prematurely. I bet that 4.2 can probably make 350whp and last.

That poor old pos ferd I love em I have a 1988 Lincoln town car with 96k miles on it drives around like its new will go 65mph all day one day plan on putting a 302 dart block with 2 small turbos and 6 speed automatic slightly lowered with rear air suspension completely rebuild just for shows and burnouts.

I had a 2002 Taurus I ran 14 psi of boost on the 3.0 vulcan motor in it. I seemed fast because I was younger and hadn't seen real speed. It was so fun to drive

Yup, big turbo lnf sedan. Just ain't had time to mess with it yet. Picked it up not to long ago.
why it seems it does not build boost or really little? to keep engines health?
No they need to upgrade their fuel pump and their MAF sensor. If they boost more right now they will go lean and pre-detonate, melt pistons, all while making no more power really. Engine can probably handle more boost I guess but I'm unfamiliar with ford 4.2

Would be awesome to have a 4.2l lightning because nobody does that, obviously the 4.2 can be fun, you could even make the truck a drift truck. It would be a lot simpler to replace parts for the truck than it would to swap drivetrains to a different platform.

That's what my friends and i used to do back in the winter after we used a sled tied to the bumper in his silverado and spun around in a circle might give y'all a idea :) it was fun too i highly recommend it
