- Recently, TM Krishna won the Sangita Kalanidhi by the Music Academy. Carnatic vocalists Ranjani-Gayatri and Harikatha exponent Dushyanth Sridhar withdrew from the Music Academy conference this year because of Krishna's participation.

It is a dispute between Academy and Carnatic Musicians. Leave it as it is. Don't bring politicians whether it is for or against.

A few carnatic singers opposing the award given to TMK itself is dirty politics.
Think many of the musicians listed here are not protesting the award to TMK they appreciate his prowess...but they are boycotting his ideology of vilifying other musicians and the community of brahmins. They have a right to protest if they are personally attacked.
Chinmayi is always about her agenda me too. I do not trivialize metoo and was a supporter of Chinmayi when she was targeted. But why does she bring that as whataboutrry? That is not the only issue in the world

It is not sufficient for artists like them, and others such as Vishakha Hari, Ravikiran, the Trichur brothers, and Dushyanth Sridhar, to boycott the Academy; like-minded Carnatic music Rasikas should avoid patronizing it. The Academy president, Narasimhan Murali, said, "According to me, they are disappointed that they have not been awarded; that is at the root of all this." These statements only indicate the arrogance of a rich, senile man. Ranjani and Gayatri have been quite vocal about their disagreement with T. M. Krishna's attitudes and behaviors for a long time. Their opinion was not formed recently after the award was announced. In fact, the two sisters have every qualification that makes them more suitable for the Sangita Kalanidhi Award than T. M. Krishna. Krishna most likely got this award (and others) because of The Hindu Group's nexus between T. M. Krishna, N. Ram, and N. Murali. In fact, how is the award decided? Does the Academy have any democratic process for it? What qualification does N. Murali have (besides being rich) to make him eligible to head the Academy?

Music Academy is just an auditorium. To sustain the investment, it has to attract people. Just because they started first does not mean it is the most coveted. Awards are given merit by the awardee. Alfred Nobel invented explosives. The prize to whom the awards were given gave the Nobel Prize value.

Carnatic music is universal and belongs to every Indian especially South Indians. It should not become a personal property of a few families. This art form was originally developed by the Non Brahmins of South India. M S Subbulakshmi its is non Brahmin Tamil Shanmugha Vadivu from Madurai. Purandadasa and Kanaka dasa too were non Brahmins.Let's not allow a handful to brand it or patent it as their private intellectual property. In the Tolkaappiyam, there are 6 types of Brahmins but the reference is to teacher. 3 types for Sanskrit and 3 for Tamil.

I live in the US & 100% I agree with Maestros in their fields like Ranjani Gayatri & Dushyanth Sir! The foundation of our Carnatic music is devotion. All the composers like Dikshitar or Thyagaraja were abounding with devotion for the god. I am myself a trained Carnatic musician (may not be famous). Technicality without devotion is useless completely. If you have unwavering devotion and the blessings of Maa Saraswati, technicality in music is handed over to you by the Goddess herself.

TM Krishna does not have a specific set of example of voices being muffled in democracy. All he has is a eloquent way of stating bullshit. How could it be based on music excellence when he has boycotted the whole December season since 2015 and has hardly done any concerts in and for the music academy or any other Sabha? There are many other singers who are equally adept at music like nithyasree and are loyal to music and the Sabhas who deserve this award even more.
