The way the engine was cranking I thought that it either had a blow head gasket or some burnt valves. It definitely is easy to replace that head gasket , the engine will run so much better when that it done. I am looking forward to seeing Jens video. I tell you, Chris... whenever you post a new video, I must drop everything and make the time to view it right away. Your episodes are always so pleasing! Your method of doing things is the way I think I'd like to do it - so similar minds think alike, that sort of stuff. It's great that you can take something that's due for the crusher or junkyard and turn it into something that works again, getting some more use and usually a good time to boot! Keep 'em coming, please! Jenn, Gus and Turbo add an additional touch that's hard to beat... Definitely quality stuff!

Yeah I joke about that all the time with jen. Lol. That's how it goes. Maybe it's one of the reasons I'm not in a rush to get everything finished with it. I plan to keep cars stored in there one way or another

Love the video it’s so awesome that you just spontaneously jump in a boat without even knowing if it’s gonna run I love it that’s what you call living life that boat is a little ball of fire. That thing moves for a little boat. Between you and Jen’s talent I guarantee you can make that boat look 100% awesome again Loving the new garage Chris looks awesome. Thank you for the update on your new garage/work shop. as you showed us how it's done so far, you do know that later down the road that you can expand that down to almost to the end of your back yard = you'll have everything put away nice and neat (no rain, no sun damage and no snow on your stuff)
I just acquired this exact model from a customer. Seeing your work makes me more confident in keeping the boat and doing some work on it; although mine was parts salvaged. My ultimate goal for it will be converting the trailer into a universal one and changing the motor to an electric. Thanks so much for sharing!

I’m glad Jenn wants to keep the boat for now. I’ll love to see you get the engine running well and the interior fixed up. I’m in western Connecticut and the smoke was really bad….very eerie outside.
just found this vid, with the boat I just finished, I also had to remake the front mount, and did similar. A couple good side plates off a trailer hitch, and some 3/8 U-channel I had sitting around to have it sit on the stringers. No more wood to rot, (I redid the whole wood structure..... the floor was GONE) and the engine weight is on the "structural members". for the bilge pump, I just welded a small bracket onto the engine mount, and hose clamped the pump to it. Works as good as new, nothing to rot, and easy to service

I must have missed the video on the new garage, I watched the tear down of the old one and I noticed in this video in the background the new building. I love those old Rochester 2bbl., very reliable on just about every application they are installed on. Thanks for another great video Chris. You guy's be safe out there.
Really enjoy watching your videos, the building looks great. Can't wait to see what you do with it next. Good idea with the ramp for Gus, his back will appreciate the help. You might want to consider a Mini-Split HVAC for the shop. I installed one and would do it all over again, low cost heat and air conditioning in one unit!

There’s nothing like a boat to make your troubles go away and when you get it for a song, that’s the icing on the cake. Most people shovel money into boats faster than they can earn it, so getting one you can afford and managing to enjoy it is just the best.

Awesome, entertaining and an inspiration for me to get going on my boats. I have 2 (1975 and a 1976) Penn Yan Explores with tunnel drives and 5.8 MerCruisers. The 75 I restored 20 years back and the 76 was an opps it went under on lake Winnipesaukee during a storm. I did get the 76 dry and running again, but it's a project waiting for me to retire to.
The boat is still a great buy for $500, can't wait to see what Jen does! Love the shop, it's going to be a game changer for sure!

Boat is amazing! Nice work! If she wants to wear the whistle, put the lanyard around the shoulder of the vest. So it always stays with the vest and if you go in water it won’t come off from around the neck.

You and my dad have much in common, he is an independent Mercedes and BMW mechanic, owns and has solely operated his own shop for 35 years in Bend OR, he also loves to buy stuff second hand and fix them up. A dozen cars, 2 boats, a rhino just like yours, 3 motorcycles, 2 snowmobiles and a handful of other stuff. I originally found you when you did a fuel pump replacement on a Mercedes E320, I watched that video to do my own fuel pump in my E320. Been a fan ever since.

I think it’s worth keeping too. Jen didn’t know bout it at first but now she loves it. I felt the same way lol but I think it’s story and willingness to run plus how cheap it was makes it worth doing some cheap repairs to make it weekend worthy.

Great video! Got the boat on the water, and a ramp for Gus. Since you were on the water, it was good to have the smoke from the wildfires documented. I like seeing the progress of your garage. I realize as you say, "you aren't a building channel". However, your garage is an important part of your activities. Your experiences w/ installation may inspire others in updating or building their garages. Nice work!
It's not everyday somebody get a new shop! It looks great. That's just nuts, that there is a video of the boat. If you cleaned out that hole back to transom, reboarded/released then replaced engine floor and blew some 2 part epoxy foam it would be stronger than new!
But yeah, pulling the motor starts to make it hard to stop restoring...

This video clearly showed me why I gave up working on my simple aluminum fishing boat. First, I didn't know what I was doing, second, I didn't know where to learn how to do it, and third, I didn't know where to find the parts I needed. As a woodworker, I'm worried about the rotten wood which originally supported everything inside the hull (as well as the condition of the transom). You obviously are very skilled and knowledgeable and I hope it all works out well.
I'm 50yrs old. I say, grow your hair out while you can!
