    • @craigjones21
      @craigjones21 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The Nostromo is the most intricate and mind-blowing miniature I've ever seen, by a mile. A great gift for Tested to show it to us.

    • @hypercube33
      @hypercube33 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its still probably smaller and less detailed than the Enterprise-D or Enterprise-E models that were made for filming. The E alone makes CGI look like garbage since its one of the last big budget scifi physical models made I think and they had a huge need to get extremely close up to it for the hull-walk scene in First Contact

    • @mikeoliver6742
      @mikeoliver6742 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hypercube33 That's correct. The Enterprise-E hero model is like 9 or ten feet long and they did indeed shoot the background plate for the zoom in on Picard, Worf, and the Redshirt walking on the engineering hull using the model. ILM had suffered through most of the other Star Trek movies' Enterprise and Enterprise-A shenanigans and made the best, toughest model they could because they thought it would be used for another four or five films, and the first thing they did for Star Trek Insurrection was digitize it.

    • @ender_slayer3
      @ender_slayer3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikeoliver6742 personally I think that the Deep Space Nine model is quite impressive itself. But over all I think that any of these are amazing, the amount of cinematic magic that you can do with models, projectors, and backdrops is nothing short of godly (looking at you Terminator :) )

  • @ashleywinters7
    @ashleywinters7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why do people think that space ships should have all that stuff attached to the hull like that? Every single thing added would be another source of an air leak. Far more believable to have a very smooth ship hull has as few seams as possible.

    @peterjones3757 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    $275,000 plus 25% percent fee on the winning bid, $68,750 and shipping the model will cost another fortune. Its 11 feet long and bulky. Yeah.. Good luck with someone wanting that. LOL. Still a great model but belongs in a museum, plain and simple.

    I don't understand why these pieces aren't going into proper art museums. Just because these were made as part of the entertainment industry doesn't change the fact that they are substantial works of culture and art with a huge impact. It's a shame they're being auctioned into private collections instead of being on permanent display where everyone can enjoy them for centuries to come.

    • @ZakTheFallen
      @ZakTheFallen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Considering how many museums and businesses are struggling to survive during the pandemic, I can understand if they're forced to do auctions in order to keep going. Especially the ones that relied on income from public attendance. This happens a lot during periods of economic crisis in the past too. A ton of artifacts were auctioned off following the events of both world wars. Some were later donated back to the museums or purchased, but sometimes these items are never seen again.
