You…are a God..7 years later and a broken Laser now fixed, bent just a little and knocked it down a few notches like you said and works perfectly, there’s still some sounds ofc but a quick reset and it’s cool, time for modding 🤘🏾🤘🏾

When I was a kid years ago my Lil sister at the time was running around outside not paying attention when she dropped my PS2 onto the concrete below from the staircase it was resting on which was a good 15-20 ft. I got so pissed at her for that and yet it STILL works even to this day. They were definitely built to last. Granted it looks very rough and should probably buy another however it used to belong to my dad when I was born and he gave it to me as I grew older. (Was born the same year PS2 came out)
It wont eject so thats impossible to do. if it was possible however it would still be a stupid idea based on the now ejected tray been in the way of lifting the case off. defo a brain dead moment there
@@johnproudlock2900 Yeah right. You can do it without opening the tray, but you'll need more force because of the magnet in the top clamp. So yeah, if the tray is stuck, just remove the cover. But if it isn't, it will be easier to remove with the tray open.
If you had an original chunky PS2 like in the video and not a slim one, then the warranty would be long finished. That unit was 13 years old when that video was made. Sony stopped all production of PS2's in 2012 and stopped selling them in 2013. You would have had to have purchased the last one and buy an extended 5 year warranty for the warranty to expire in 2018.
Its a major importance to mention the exact type of screw driver to open the lid of the laser. What kind of philips in mm since as you said a fine philips doesn't tell the exact type? My fine philips is too big and I already started to strip the tiny tiny screws.
Would like to actually see how to remove the laser. Everyone else who removes it has a different model and I'm afraid I'm goings break it. I'm about to just chuck the system against a fucking wall.
taking the lid off and not having the ribbon attached has nothing to do with the color of the console. its the difference between the 3000 and 5000 series versions of the ps2
This helpful video really helps but, I'm finding issues during the fix up and the disc tray doesnt want to fully extend out even when the cover is off and I tried pulling on it and it gave a clicking sound, can you help me with this?

question will I damage the disc tray if I physically use use my finger to close it instead of the eject button? I also eccedently press the eject button and stop the disc tray half way it closed on its own am worried?

Hey guys, I'm having problem with the worm motor of the disc drive. It's not moving the laser back and forth and I have no idea why. The plastic teeth are making contact, the gear is greased enough, the laser lights up but nothing moves. It was moving a couple of days ago before I tried to adjust the potentiometer to be able to read CDs again as the laser was only reading DVD. (so I don't think it's the ribbon, I was really really careful) I tried also to adjust the laser height with the gear at the top but nothing worked. I'm confused, even if the laser would be dead it would still move back and forth, right? Besides it still lights up, and the disc is still spinning when inserted... Have no idea what's the issue here.
Im having the same issue. Every youtube video that talks about this issue all start out with "to fix the issue of not being able to your disc drive, first open your disc drive." LIKE THATS OUR FUCKING ISSUE.
No luck so probably going to have to spend the $15 USD for a new plastic white part. I assume it's worn down too much but it was literally working fine one day and not even 24 hours this happens.

@@tommyb1753 thank you, I did take it apart but nothing. I ordered a used one on Amazon and it works fine. I have the PS4 but I like to have the option of playing my old games if I desire. The Ps5 it’s hard to find. I’m happy with my PS4, I’m in no rush to get a ps5 lol

My FAT PS2s disc tray vibrates briefly at the end of its extension and the vibration stop when I lift slightly on it as it comes out. Is there a way to remedy this issue? It just sounds like over time it'll wear out and I'll have a bigger issue on my hands. I'd like to get to the bottom of it to get every bit of life I can out of it.

If you’re comfortable taking it apart, look at the gears on the disc drive and make sure they’re clean, also it might not be the most popular method (some prefer a dry grease) but I put dielectric grease on the metal rods and the metal screw like rod to help the disc drive open and close smoother, that should help

The SCPH-3900# is the most reliable fat version, the 3000# is the worst followed by the 5000# that this particular model seems to be

I recommend that you open the disc tray before removing the top cover of the tray. It will be easier to remove.

it feels like my PH0 is still too big to get those two screws holding the tray top down, it wont grip in

I have the same problem, have opened and bent the tab and all that, no go, I press the button the laser squeezes onto, still no go.

If you’re comfortable taking it apart make sure the ribbon cable from the power button to the motherboard is hooked up that might be it
