Just want to say that instead of lying under the dash, you can actually pull out the cover directly under the steering column. Just pull it down from the gap on top and it will open downwards (it's hinged) and you can easily access the wires from there. Hope this helps future fixes :)
Thanks for the vid, I did mine today and this definately helped. If you do buy the original replacement as I did, it comes with the rubber seal pre fitted so don't try and fit the old one on top and then couldn't figure out why the screws weren't long enough .....derrrrrr!!!
Leaving this for posterity. Instead of contorting your body to remove and bring back the pigtail, you can remove the gauge cluster and work from that spot. Much easier access. (You can just remove the plastic retainer if your arm is thin enough, otherwise, cluster removal it is).
Not easily, I recommend unfurling the replacement long before you start so it's not all coil-y as you feed it through. Equally, attaching a small fishing weight to a string might help you get a line through the column to pull the new aerial through with.
Probably because this is one of the earliest videos I ever filmed and it was quite tricky to get the camera under there along with a set of hands and still be able to see what I was doing.

The process of using string as you replace a cable is called 'mousing'. You 'mouse' the cable through.
Just ordered this, factory antenna still there but I anticipate it'll break at some point. Can you give me some feedback on the performance so far?
It's not terrible, but the reception is reduced compared to the full height one. I've since put in a new head unit and DAB unit, video coming soon.
