- Kevin Garnett wasn't a consistent 3-point shooter, but his long 2-point jumpers helped bring big men into the pace-and-space era. In this episode of Signature Shots, ESPN analyst Kirk Goldsberry traces The Big Ticket's evolution from a low-post dominating MVP with the Minnesota Timberwolves to a title-winning master of pick-and-pop jumpers with the Boston Celtics.

Great story about KG - My college Bball coach told me a story about playing against KG when he was in highschool. He was a PG and said he drove the lane and threw up a floater. KG snagged it outta mid air, dribbled to the other end, dunked on 3 dudes, ran over to the scorers table, pointed to my coach, and said “give that boy an assist” 😂
💀wow 👏🏾
if he did that to Michael Jordan he would take that so personally I believe there would no longer be an earth for us to live on xD

@Tong Zou kg is second for sure
@Tong Zou the only reason I chose KG over Duncan is his athleticism and defense I think KG's personal accolades are more impressive than Tim's and Tim had better teammates for a much longer portion of his career too..... don't get me wrong though Duncan was better at scoring the basketball but I like defense more personally Tim was good there too but KG was better

I was never a KG fan myself but dude has one of the sweetest mid range jumpers. WET.
Everytime KG got ready to hit a jumpshot I knew it was going in. Dude was Automatic

@@DeAngelo77 his handle was good for a big
@@DeAngelo77 nah he was decent handling the ball. He wasn’t great but he was good. His scoring was very good in spurts , but not great in comparison to his peers. I love KG he is actually my favorite player. I model my play style on the court after him.
His TWolves jersey was the first ever jersey that I bought. I love his effort and intensity on both ends whenever he played.
No one can define the power forward position better than KG did. There are some players ahead of him legacy-wise, but his overall skill and mentality is what I think of the 4 position.
I think Karl Malone put the “power” in power forward
@@Terror832 Malone is probably better offensively. But KG is more versatile in both offense and defense, and has the athleticism matching up with his playstyle

By far the greatest experience bro
He was also really good from 3pt range towards the end of the 2000's till retirement.
My favourite player of the 00's and the best PF for me to ever play the game. His 2003-04 season was awesome and i routed fro the Boston Celtics only for him, when he was there.
KG: this game is like a bar fight. You ever been in a bar fight?
Reporter: no, have you?
KG: yeah me neither. But if I did it would be like this game.
I enjoyed watching Garnett play because of how well-rounded he was. He was great on both ends of the court at his peak. Guys such as him and Hakeem Olajuwon established a template for many of today's bigs.
Kevin McHale??
@@ianjasperpagaran299 As great as McHale was (his various post moves alone make him one of the all-time greats), the range that Garnett in particular had might have had a more immediate impact on how the NBA looks today. Many of today's bigs are similar to Garnett, but they definitely should watch film of McHale, too.
I see a little bit of KG in Bam Adebayo's game this year. Especially in that 40pt game vs brooklyn that came mostly off jumpers. Hope he keeps improving that midrange
Hate him or love him, man had a presence in the court that loomed over players AND the audience. That's why he was named the Big Ticket.

Garnett would be a dawg in today’s game
He’s putting up Giannis stats in today’s era.
He was doing damage back when defenses were beating offenses. Nowadays it’s the complete opposite. Offenses are beating defenses to a pulp.
A team was more likely to score 70 than score 130 in KGs prime
I think he would fit right in. He likely would extend his shooting range a bit to make that happen. His defense would be coveted in the current era.

KG is sooooo underrated
KG IS A LEGEND. LOVED WATCHING HIM PLAY💪🏾
KG was and still is my one of my favorite childhood players. I'm happy he's in the HoF.
Like Doc Rivers said, the starting lineup of Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG, and Perk have never lost a series.
07-08: Went 66-16 and a championship
08-09: Started 27-2. Went on a 19 game win streak during that run. KG, the defensive anchor, gets injured in February for the rest of the season. Finish 62-20 (They would have went for 70-72 wins before the injury). Lose in 2nd round to Orlando.
09-10: KG returns not the same player he was. Doc starts resting his players for the playoffs. Finish 50-32. Beat Orlando with KG this time and were up 3-2 vs LA then Perkins gets injured in Game 6 and they lose.
That team wasn't a one and done. They were made for a 3peat. Injuries cost them. Ignorant people who never watched them play clown on them because they want to follow others instead of educating themselves.
None of them carried their respective franchise to something huge, let alone a chip. They formed a superteam to have get a ring and they keep hating on other later superteams. Hypocrits for the most part. KG winning with Minnesota would have been way more legendary. Pierce wasnt just good enough to get there by being the lone star, simple as that.
@@patrickh4419 You did not just reply to my 1 year old comment to spread misinformation due to your own ignorance.
"None of them carried their respective franchise to something huge, let alone a chip."
None of them? WRONG! KG and Pierce led their team to the Conference Finals in 2004 and 2002, respectively. It was only Ray who didn't get to the Conference Finals. And don't act like reaching the Conference Finals isn't huge because the Finals is after the Conference Finals.
"They formed a superteam to have get a ring"
They? Once again... WRONG! Danny Ainge TRADED for Ray on draft night and KG a few weeks later in order to build a team to win a championship.

he had the 3ball in nba live 04
Sheed had 3 point range, legit low post moves, excellent low post Defender as he could guard Duncan ( only person who figured him out) mid range and Fiery attitude! Never wanted to be Number One option

That 03-04 season was excellent for him.
If KG played in today modern, surely he can adopt to shoot threes, surely he was beast in todays league specially of zero defense
do it on defense too, how rodman could rebound ball, how russel played defense etc
Like a better and more athletic Patrick Ewing in my opinion.
KG could've been KD before KD if only he cared more for offense than defense, but man it was such a pleasure to watch that man play defense.
Also, if KG played right now he'll get a tech every time he dunked.

KG is a very underrated player
This is becoming my favorite little mini series on TH-cam keep it going please.
Probably the most well rounded player for his position all time
People doesn’t realize KG was equally as good as Duncan. He just wasn’t lucky enough to play on a system as good as the Spurs with an all time great coach and 2 other HOF locks
Go check KG in the playoffs and Duncan then come back, Duncan won 4 titles without a teammate making an All-NBA team, no other player aside from Magic has more than 1, Duncan’s ‘help’ is vastly overrated
@@hardwoodthought1213 that’s a pretty ignorant way of looking at it. Having a bunch of future HOF stars supporting you can be even better than having 1 superstar. Genobli is a 2x All star, a 2x All NBA , and an Olympic gold medalist who led Argentina to beat Duncan and the star studded USA team in ‘04. Tony Parker is a 6x All star, and a 2x All NBA. Both of those guys are stars and HOF locks and you wanna down play them to make Duncan look good. Lol. Seriously??
Not to mention the fact that Pop is in the Mount Rushmore of coaches and arguably even better than Pat or Phil.
Now tell me who were KGs team mates in his prime with Minnesota? And who was his coach in Minnesota?
I’m pretty sure you realize now that you are dead wrong but let’s see if your ego gets in the way of admitting it
@@Bonescratcher 2003, Tony Parker was in his second year and averaged 13 points on 39% shooting, David Robinson was 38 and averaged 8/8, Manu in 35 minutes a game couldn’t even get to double digit scoring and the teams second best player was Stephen Jackson, a guy who the year before was cut by the New Jersey Nets. With that team Duncan won a title, you’re an example of someone who sees names on paper without caring how they played. It’s like me saying Kobe not winning in 2012 is the biggest choke ever cause he had Nash, Gasol and Howard.
04 KG had Sam Cassell who was 2nd team All-NBA, Spree average 19-6-5 and Wally Z who was an All-Star the year before. Based on the team Duncan won with in “3, he’d have won in 04 with KGs team. I care about what you do in the time I’m referencing, not what you did in 1994 or 2014 when talking about 2003 😂
Pop created a great system from 09 on, but in 03 the system was give the ball to Duncan in the post and he will do the rest.
@@hardwoodthought1213 who’s talking about ‘94 fool? Parker and Genobli played with Duncan for his entire prime. They are both HOFers and multiple time All stars and All NBA players. But no you wanna cherry pick one specific year and use that as your exclusive argument 😂😂
About coach pop, you are totally ignorant. He won coach of the year in 2003 fool. He was also selected head coach of the all star game in 2005. But you wanna say he didn’t become a good coach till 2009 😂😂😂
Please stop man. You’re clearly a casual
@@Bonescratcher I’m a casual yet you are the one referencing career all star games 😂
Okay, so let’s say in 99/07/14 Duncan played with ‘Hall of famers’ who played at a good level. He still then won 2 titles with teammates playing average to poor, so he won 3 titles with the equivalent help KG had and could only win 1 championship with (Allen, Pierce, Rondo, all of whom are also HOFamers) and 2 titles with scrubs, something KG never did.
Hence, I’m showing you your statement is just wrong, and winning coach of the year doesn’t make you an all time coach, Casey won it and got fired the same year, Pop was gonna be fired before Duncan was drafted and saved the franchise, I was around, no one was talking about Pop being an elite coach until 2007>>>

Very true. Dirk was by far the most revolutionary 7 footer to space the floor with consistency. Still today there hasn't been a 7 footer that shoot better

all time favorite player, born a celtic, and proved it by raising a kelly green banner.
It was just a shame that the big3 got together too late, they were a dynasty type team
Boston was only able to get KG and Ray because of some trades, and there’s no way they would’ve been able to make those trades work earlier in the careers. Ray Allen was just reaching the end of his prime so the Sonics (soon to be Thunder 😡😡 under a fresh new face of Presti) were happy to get a Top 5 pick, and an aging KG did return a lot of players to Minnesota. Although outside of Al Jeff, Minn didn’t do much with the picks and Boston obviously won their trades with the ‘chip. But no one would have made those trades even a few years earlier, where oddly enough Gp led Sonics beat the KG wolves, which led to KGs eventual frustration... but also Sonics not getting farther caused them to trade GP for Ray Allen.
I remember in early 2000, playing with West All Star... I would use line up of KG, Duncan, Dirk (3 Best PF to ever play the Game)
