The dude literally didn't miss a playoffs in his whole career. Playing in western conf. is very tough and still manage to get 5 rings.
It's actually crazier than that. His team never won less than 50 games with him on the team, except for the lockout-shortened 1998-1999 season when they won their 1st championship lol

Obviously when your team is on LA or NY you can take the luxury of sign all the players that you want. If there wouldn't be for the loyalty of Duncan, Parker, Robinson, Ginobilli and at the end Kawhi they would be worse than Sacramento or Charlotte

Duncan was the scariest player in the playoffs. I remember my pistons going toe to toe and he was simply unstoppable against the greatest defensive team.

Tim Duncan is one of only 5 players that has a quadruple double.
Of these 5 he's the one of two players that did it in the playoffs, the only player that did it in the finals and the only player that did it in a game 6 finals clinching game. He had 21 point, 20 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 blocks.

Basketball culture promotes swag and flare with moves on the court over pure fundamentals which is why Duncan is never mentioned next to guys that display it.
I was a Spurs fan for so many years because of this man. Tim Duncan is my favorite player of all time and he was my childhood hero.

True. Same season that Kobe retired also. Kobe got farewell celebrations from fans in and out of L.A. Duncan was just more low-key and wanted to retire quietly. He didn't even announce it until the summer so San Antonio never got to thank him while he was playing.

This is how I found Tim Duncan so amazing. When I was in high school, he got a championship; when I was in college, he got another two; when I can to United State for graduate school, he has got another one. After I finished my PhD and started working, guess, he has got another one......... Definitely my favorite player
How does a 5x champ, 2x MVP, 3x Finals MVP and 15x All-Star barely get spoken about? When they do, they always bring up pop. Every great player and champion has had a great coach and system around them, yet when it comes to Tim Duncan discussions and where he ranks all time, they always try and use it against him. Timmy D is top 5 all time and deserves to be on the mount rushmore of basketball.
1:12 hear what he says. I feel like that is one of the reasons why he is not talked about a lot. Not only may his game be boring to the fans but so was his career. There were never any scandals, he never really got into media trouble as well. He just played basketball, answered questions and went on with his life.

He is arguably the most fundamentally sound basketball player to live outside of Jordan and had an incredibly winning career so it's not ridiculous to have him in the GOAT discussion. When we talk about great players it should lean to more to how they actually played basketball, not how flashy or outspoken they are.

Duncan beat the sorry knicks, nets, cavs, 2014 heat. Only real finals Duncan has faced was the pistons, that 2013 heat he almost won if it wasn’t for Allen. No competition Duncan has faced that’s why Duncan championships have been spread out throughout the years. He’s never went back to back until 2014 and the west competition was just okc. Duncan lost 2 fmvp to tony Parker. How are you a top 5 player and can’t win every fmvp. Duncan wasn’t like Kobe, playing with the most dominate player ever and Kobe was younger. Kobe lost fmvp to shaq not derick fisher or pau gasol.

Duncan is just rare. One of a kind. That big and strong and nimble and had handles and had every single post move elite defensively.
Agreed! And Duncan was being humble when he said he wasn't as athletic as other players. Athleticism is more than about jumping high. See that agility on his spin moves in the post? Amazing. Not too many legit 7 footers that can do the things he did. Only the very best, and Timmy is up there for sure.

Growing up in San Antonio, watching the city grow, watching the team succeed and witnessing the consistent greatness of a player like him, I attribute every accolade to him. Pop becoming great, Tony and Manu achieving hall of fame careers, San Antonio growing as a city from revenue delivered after every championship and playoff run. Players like Finley, Diaw, Willis and others getting rings.. All of it is attributed to Duncan and his stellar career, ethic and greatness. Phenomenal.

I have never seen anything like it before or since at the PF position: Duncan v Knicks in 99 and Duncan v Nets in 03. It was a masterclass. Brilliance. Congrats on the Hall induction, Tim. Greatest PF of all time and top 10 all time is not a hyperbole. You are that guy.

Duncan's moves may not be fun to watch, but seeing how his plain and simplicity obliterate and break apart the most athletic and fancy is a sight of beauty. Duncan is someone who could arguably still play and make an impact even today if he wants to.

As a long time Spurs fan, I can't thank Timmy, Manu & TP9 for all the great memories. The early 2000's rivalry with the Shaq & Kobe Lakers, the Finals vs the Pistons, the 2 Finals vs Miami. What a ride it was! Hands down, the best trio to be inducted into the HoF together, period! I'll forever yell GoSpursGo!!

As a Spurs fan I cry almost every time I see Timmy now... in joy of what he brought us and sadness knowing I will most likely never get to experience the career of a player like him on the spurs ever again. You look at the top 10 players of all time and it's all big name teams the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls.... then my small market Spurs with Timmy. It was an absolute treat to watch his career and I can only wish to ever get to watch another player similar to him on my franchise again.

Nailed it. What a great overview of Tim's shooting ability. I've been a Spurs fan since George Gervin's playing days and this encapsulates Tim Duncan's shooting and footwork so well.
Hakeem's constant schooling of Duncan during the Dream's reign wasn't even mentioned, as if Hakeem wasn't one of the Bigs who posed a significant challenge for players like Tim. But there's no denying it...Tim Duncan was a force, and who said a banked shot isn't sexy? If you call it before you make it...its by far one of the shrewdest signs of skill in the game.

Prime Duncan just had far more help than prime Garnett and was drafted into a functional franchise, not a Glen Taylor-owned shitshow. Put KG on the Spurs and Duncan on the Wolves and see what happens. The Timberwolves have made the playoffs only once since KG left in 2007 and that was only due to Thibodeau and rental Jimmy Butler (not anyone they developed and built around), so it was a miracle KG made them competitive. Meanwhile, the Spurs won 61 games the year after Duncan retired lol. Btw Pierce was an overrated career loser who never won 50 games pre-KG and would've never made the playoffs in the West. Garnett would've easily beaten those trash East teams like the Sixers, Nets, Bucks, Celtics in the early 2000s. Most halfway decent teams in the West would've as well.
5 championships says it all. Wasn’t a fan at first, but Timmy grew on me big time. Specially after those finals against the Heat. Those were great series with great high level b-ball. True legend of the sport you are Mr Duncan. Congratulations!
to be fair he got lucky with injuries to key guys like rick fox dirk joe johnson d wade nash/amare and ibaka in his runs post 1999 but whatever...it is what it is...
he makes being SAS fan so enjoyable. No down years constant success. Always contenting. Even when you start to think maybe good times over but then you made 3 straight conference finals and most heartbreaking and satisfying finals n back to back years. Just amazing. Tim Duncan deserves more talk in the greatest players of all time list. So many people miss him. His resume is quite nearly flawless; he's not only won every major award you probably could in a stellar NBA career (often multiple times), but he's also showcased some of the best consistency ever in doing it. Truly a modern great; wish the media wouldn't have painted him as more boring so that we could appreciate great, teachable basketball.
Kobe would have gotten more rings if it weren't for the Spurs big 3, I got deep respect for them.

For me, Duncan is top 5 all time. He is on my all 1990s, 2000s and 2010s teams as well. Duncan was dominant for a long time.
No other player has a quadruple double in the playoffs, Tim Duncan had one in game 5 of the NBA Finals
They didn’t give him the quad double but still so impressive to have that in the FINALS
