    Jeebus I want it! Can't wait to see what you put together! I really wish we could petition the powers that be to nudge that weight limit to 300-350g. At the end of the day it's an arbitrary line in the sand and I think there is a lot of benefit/risk ratio left in the equation in favour of safe lightweight operation. It seems aimed at maximum kinetic energy/damage capability...160km/h (45m/s) at 250g = ~500 joules. I guess it's hard to be specific about top speed so they had to more explicitly limit mass...end of the day they all have enough mass to all cause catastrophic fod to a jet engine on ingestion. Rant over...I guess just give us this frame!

    Great testing Tommy!!!!
    Suggestion: For Frame testing only = Build the frame weight it down without using expensive electronics. Say just pieces of lead weight for battery weight camera FC ESC and motors.
    That way you could just test the strength of the frame with an actual all up weight of 268 g without the expensive electronics on board smashing the frame into the concrete wall. Just a suggestion it would be a lot cheaper and you could repeat the test many times without fear of ruining your electronics.

    I don't think my heavier 5" builds would have performed as well - testimony to the lighter weight, AND your design => WELL DONE TOMMY!!! I also totally agree on the failure location was optimal - which is why I buy spare arms w/ a new frame ;) With the release of DJI V2 goggle, I keep wondering where I'm going to start experimenting w/ HD FPV. I'd thought 4" sub 250g long range...but with DJI's crappy OSD support & no OSD data in DVR, I won't be doing long range HD...but sub 250g 5" freestyle?!?!? rip a quiet corner of a park & not piss off the locals/neighbors? Greetings a question my drone has emax 2306 motors of 2400 Kv in 4S and I fly it with 5040 propellers with 3 blades and I put a 6040 propellers with 2 blades and when accelerating it vibrates a lot, how can I solve that with the pids that I was already moving it and well This is how I could remove some vibration but I need ideas here I send you the configuration of how the pids are to see if you can guide me how to remove those vibrations when accelerating to the maximum, the pids are master multiplier =. 07, PD Balance = 1.1, PYD Gain = 1.4, thanks and regards.

    Fyi, Aluminum wire is about 1/2 the weight of copper, but it's a whole world of pain to work with. (special crimp terminals or ultrasonic welding are required) Looks like silver wire could save 20% of the wire weight and would still work with standard solder joints. Higher temper insulation on thinner wire might be a better attack, as you can get insulation rated up to 200C pretty easily.

  • @wrstew1272
    @wrstew1272 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tommy- that was astounding. If you were tightening screws, then they stretched from the impact, rather than breaking the arm. You flew it back! Stress fracture? Possibly, but you didn’t X-ray to know. Rinse and repeat a number of times? I was amazed that the motor bearings and shaft were good. Low mass! You have it really really great in that the arm acted as a fuse and absorbed the impact rather than the main body, as designed. Absolutely positively wondermus example of beta testing. Sales date? Need a little brother for your first one..........

  • @TheConfigurat0r
    @TheConfigurat0r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The question is.. If you want to fly in a bando, do you really need to be sub 250?
    I don't know about the new FAA regulations but it should be prohibited to fly bandos in a city anyway? So you would probably need permission of the owner anyway.
    But this build however would just be awesome for outdoor. Can't wait to see your new improvements. And I guess you could save some more weight off of the frame.

    Love seeing the design process.
    What's the chances, during an intentional crash, the drone gets deflected away from the object by the props and the frame doesn't even hit?
    Maybe the light weight design makes it more easily defected by the props.

  • @supermendi0078
    @supermendi0078 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    11:58 don’t lie to yourself man, it makes perfect sense that the arm broke there since it’s the place with the least carbon on the arm, plus it has a joint with metal, which isn’t flexible, meaning it won’t absorb the energy, therefore making the carbon take all of it, what u need is to reinforce that small point and maybe compensate for the weight with a couple holes elsewhere.
    Regardless, this is an amazing job you’ve done so far. And I’m really impressed, not gonna lie. I’ve been thinking about getting into the 250g world and these videos are definitely very informative.

    Cutting micros is a pain because that 2mm hardware. Snapping 1.8-2mm burr bits for the small guys. Larger frames that let you get away with a 3mm burr bits are pretty trouble free by comparison. As for dust, that is why I chose the machine I did, all my milling is done under water and runs through a filter to capture my spoil/dust.

    This is fantastic maybe have a thin bar that goes in between the two front arms, if it take a direct hit it will brake but could spare the camera but let's say one arm gets caught it transfers some of the load to the other arm over some tension. Could sacrifice some grams....

    I get the lighweight batteries, but what kind of flight times can you get ripping and cruising mix with 350 and 450mah? Buying one regardless. Keep up the hard work!

    • @ktranization
      @ktranization 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      3.5 mins with the 350mah

      @justinwright82 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ktranization I'm going to have to try this 6s thing out if its that good. I have a 4s 1550 rig with 1700kv motors and get 4min if i just cruise the whole time.

      6s 450 I’m getting over 6min depending on what I’m doing... with the 4s 450 I get around 4, closer to 5 and sometimes over depending on what I’m dojngt
