The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it's rich history with me!
I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

Who would you like to see in the series??
As a younger nba fan u have really increased my basketball knowledge to a very high level to what I used to be
Mark price as a Clevelander would love to see more recognition to a shooter like him
Detlef scheimpf
Dolph Schayes
Dennis Johnson, Chris Webber, Jo Jo White
My vote would be Dennis Johnson. He needs some respect
The late great DJ!!!
Beat me to it!
I think Larry said he was the smartest player he ever played with.
Definitely! People aren’t aware that he was a star player for the championship Super Sonics before the Boston dynasty
@@kenallen4175he did
Gail goodrich is criminally underrated, way ahead of his times was a big part of that Lakers championship in '72
Leading scoring for that team too
Detlef Schrempf would be great for this series. I appreciate and enjoy what you do with your Channel. Keep up the great work.
That dude was goooood
There are several players who deserve a mention. Jermaine O’Neil is one that comes to my mind, and World B. Free is another.
Vlade Divac! Young basketball fans should know who was the "Jokić before Jokić", a Serbian guy that was certainly the best facilitator among the big players of his time, while at the same time was very capable defensive player who averaged more than 1.5 blocks and steals per game numerous times during his career.
And the only player in the league with a pack and a half a day habit 😂
No
I love learning NBA history from you. My player of choice I’d want to see more about is Andrei Kirilenko. In a league of Tim Duncans, Kevin Garnetts, and Ben Wallaces, he still stood out.
Hope you talk about Dale Ellis. Élite shooter ahead of his time. Made 9 3s in a game in 1990. Peaked with a 28-4-2 statline , on 50-48-82%. Played 69 minutes in a single game. MIP in 87. Was an Allstar caliber player each year in Seattle, then get traded for Ricky Pierce and collapsed into the bench.
Really an interessing career
Dale Ellis was a dawg. Love to see a real fan of the game like myself. ❤
@@andrewlee6280 TERRELL BRANDON, MCDYESS BLOCKS, KENNY ANDERSON DRIBBLING, BONES BARRY MOST KIND PERSON IN NBA HIS FREE THROW DUNK AND ALL 3'S WHEN HE CARRY DUNCAN ETC
@@PIP...33what are you talking about
Lol Fun Fact him and my brother were neighbors in Powder Springs GA about 15-20yrs ago and they had multiple physical altercations lol🤦🏿♂️ my brother had mental issue at the time tho🤷🏿♂️
Would love to see Bernard King in this list, he's one of the forgotten legends out there
As a Mavs fan, I loved to see Mark Aguirre on the list. One of the most underrated scoring legends ever.
Cliff Robinson (Not Clifford the one for the blazers) but the one that played with cavs and nets. One of the most forgotten non-all stars.
Maurice Lucas. ABA star and Championship winner. Original “Enforcer”. Helped lead Portland Trailblazers to the promised land.
Another good one would be Bobby Dandridge….he’s in the Hall of Fame and few today remember him.
Totally obscure choice and not necessarily for this list would be Billy Ray Bates…. I’d say he’s like an early version of Jeremy Lin. He signed from the CBA and was electric…for a while.
@@planet3vitaminpacksanother one that isn’t too known I think personally is lebron, I don’t think he’s talked about enough or appreciated, his team too, who the fuck talks about the lakers
@@planet3vitaminpacksIs that the guy that played with Portland?? Filipino people love him
@@mongoslade277 - Yes Maurice Lucas played with Portland for many years and later a short stint with the Lakers. My favorite Blazer as a kid. Later Clyde Drexler was a favorite.
Would love to see a prime Antonio McDyess video. Jimmy Jackson as well
I appreciate you giving more recognition to these players, not many casuals know about them
Jonny is a casual. He just talks about players stats or accolades. Rarely their actual games
I’m actually a competitive basketball fan myself
@christophergooding9820 not really. He's pretty good at giving basic information about almost any player to ever play
@@garrettshort7920he basically just talks about stars or franchise players so idk how that’s any player ever. And again the basic information is stuff you could find on wikipedia and bball reference w/o watching a single game
Can’t call somebody a casual for not knowing old ass players that they can’t even watch.
Man I love your content. I like you actually respect players from older eras instead of disrespecting by calling them plumbers and firemen or saying some of them can't play in this era. You're kind is very rare to find.
I know I’m biased as a Knicks fan but Alan Houston was underrated, he was a playoff performer avaeraged near 20 pts a game and before leg injuries took his career he was just getting started I think he had 2 50 pt games that year he got hurt and was never the same.
Great point!
It used to be Ewing's team. But it begun to turn to Houston and Sprewell's Knicks.
Houston had such a smooth jumper.
As a Heat fan, I'll never forget Allan Houston
Would love to see Earl Boykins on a list like this. He was strong as an ox, small like Mugsy and clutch as hell. I remember him dropping record points in overtime wins.
I remember he play in my rec league in the summer to stay in shape.. he'd come in, score a smooth 80 without breaking a sweat lol crazy
Someone that needs to be mentioned later in the series is Hal Greer, NBA Champ and sidekick of wilt in his prime, absolute beast
Dude I love this idea so much. It is so cool to see players not known by many casual fans. Appreciate your coverage on all these guys. A couple playes I think could be mentioned later are Detleaf Schrempf and Drazen Petrovic. I feel like both of those european stars go unmentioned. But once again such a cool video and idea.
Adrian Dantley and Benard King are some others you can include.
I love this idea. Before the video even started I instantly thought of Mookie Blaylock and Tom Chambers. My dad was actually friends with Fred Brown's brother in High school and told me about having dinner at their house once.
I knew all of these players already, but some of the facts were cool, didn’t know that Muggsy dished 10 assists a game.
Huge fan of yours man. Being a person from India, we guys normally do not follow the game of basketball over here. But, because of you and other great content creators in TH-cam, amongst my friends I can boost I know more about the game of basketball than them. Thank you so much for creating great content and informative contents...
Please keep up the great work 🎉
Bill Walton. He is an interesting guy on and off the court. He was an all time great level player for his brief prime before injuries. I’m 22 and a lot of my friends don’t know much about him or the 70s in general. Keep up the awesome work Johnny!
Muggys was one of my favorite players as a kid
Aww man I was hoping to see Earl Boykins in here 😢. He was my favorite player growing up as a diehard nuggets fan. He was amazing, and he still holds the NBA record for most points in overtime
Ah spap, that’s a good one. Like I said, I might go through the alphabet multiple times, so if I do, I’ll include Boykins next time 👍 I just put him on my list
Great video. All these players were significant contributors to the game. I saw most of these dudes play and definitely remember them and had their cards.
Man this a great video giving respect to past forgotten players. I would like to see Nick van excel Mike Bibby Mark Price Michael Cooper Alonzo Mourning Mark Eaton. Such a great underrated channel we appreciate your passion for the game. Dennis Rodman too.
He’s already done a video on Van Exel, but the others I’d recommend he do.
Love this idea, a lot of these cats don't get talked about these days. There have been so many great players, it's hard to keep up with!
Amazing list. Bonus fact for Mookie Blaylock: the band Pearl Jam was originally named after him.
That's what I was thinking of when he came up!
Mookie Blaylock is one of my favorite Hawks players.
Love this concept, Johnny! Another letter "A" that comes to mind - Shareef Abdur-Rahim
Hey jonny. You should make a video on Oscar Schmidt and his achievements, great legend. One of the biggest, if not the biggest what if of nba history. He was an unbelievable shooter, and great team leader, for Brazil Olympic teams through the 80s and 90s. Although never played in the nba (due to restrictions on the contract), he is the all time Scoring leader of the sport with almost 50k points, insane averages. And also was one of the biggest inspirations to Kobe (check that out). Again, might be unknown to may, but the guy was a beast, had such an amazing history and dedication. He was also inducted to the hall of fame presented by none other than Larry Bird. (watch his acceptance speech, he's very funny as well). Many disregard him due to playing in weaker regions (which is somewhat correct) but with those number you have to start reconsidering things, being even able to beat the USA Olympic team in one occasion. If you havent heard of him, check his story out, i guarantee its amazing! Cheers
If he haven't heard about Oscar (who gave the best HOF speech , btw, so funny and so beatiful, nobody has this man's HEART), something is very, very wrong.
Oscar and Sabonis are the biggest "what if" in NBA history. These guys, at their primes, would turn the league upside down if they got there in the 80's.
But while Sabonis were not allowed to play for several years, Oscar choose not to, since he would have to be out of his national team... As a brazilian who grow up watching him, I am so glad of his choice.
And we all know what he did to USA in 1987.That was bigger than one NBA ring. :)
Keep up the great work, Jonny! Some of the great older players I think would fit here: Dave Cowens, Billy Cunningham, Bobby Jones, Maurice Cheeks, and Richie Guerin
Great callouts here, these guys really are under-appreciated! But at least they made the HOF 😊
This is such a good idea for a series. You should definitely mention Spencer Haywood
Spencer Haywood was also important in terms of players' draft elegibility: he made a lawsuit vs. the league to make players eligible to the draft before their college senior class, given a hardship exemption (as the ABA was doing at the time)
@@massimocometti6529 so interesting!
Gotta love Michael Adams and that strange one-handed push shot.
Great idea! I'm glad you're doing it so we can know more about players whose name sound vaguely familiar and who just show up on sporcle or other sports trivia things. For example, I did not even know what Adams looked like. I knew Nate "tiny" Archibald a lot more though, even thought you went a bit fast on him.
This is gonna be fantastic. I've learned so much more than I thought I did about 80s-90s basketball because of you
It's great that you shine a light on some of these players Johny, this series gets my full support 🎉
Good day when Jonny uploads and I love this series so far can’t wait for part two
I'll always remember Tom Chambers from his appearance in the Posterized documentary that I still watch.
Is it worth talking about Jason Richardson? He's not a player I see much discourse of, but when I started watching the NBA, he was a bright spot in that Warriors era between Latrell's leave and We Believe.
I kind of felt like Richardson was like a (mini) version of Dominique Wilkins, with his own great dunking ability.
Its always a good day when jonny uploads a banger
Man they had some great names back then , mookie , mugsy, tiny, downtown feeddy Brown . Great video
Awesome video Jonny! I heard of most of the players you mentioned, but learned a lot. I remember Cassell (when he played with Ray Allen and Glenn Robinson) and Billups too (and especially remember the latter during the 2004 NBA Finals).
I am looking forward to your video about Abdul-Rauf.
Do you plan to include Peja Stojakovic in this series? To me, he was ahead of his time with his 3 PT shooting and he was pretty good during his prime.
Hope you have a great day! 😊
I’m hoping Jeff Hornacek gets a nod in this series. As a Jazz fan in the ‘90s, it was a treat watching him constantly hitting the most impossible looking shots as an old man.
Too bad ..many though Hornacek was a 90s plumber ..not realizing he was a good nba player 😀
I’ve heard some argue that if they had a second passer like him earlier, Utah could have been much better.
Learned about Mahmoud’s story a few months ago. It’s a shame the nba seems to want to erase his legacy.
He gave mj problems
I am glad Stephen A Smith interviewed him recently on his show.
I would love to see more of these videos, as for a specific payer then Mark Jackson, and Marc Gasol(not sure if he qualifies in this category tbh) come to mind.
I love videos like this that give some shine to lesser known or players been forgotten about. Hopefully you continue this series because there's so many good or even great players that don't get talked about.
Walt Bellamy went to my church when I was a kid. One of the legends of the game.
Please keep this up!
Oh man Bulls Vs Blazers on SNES had that Tom Chambers dunk on Mark Jackson as his signature move in the game.
You do such a good job of highlighting so many smaller things and then covering larger things that are well known in such specific ways well
Great idea for a series. You'll have to go around the alphabet multiple times to cover everyone. Could name 100 dudes, so here's a motley mix of HoF and borderline HoF guys:
Terry Cummings, Vinnie Johnson, Eddie Jones, Fat Lever, Shawn Marion, Drazen Petrovic, Arvydas Sabonis, Jack Sikma, Paul Silas, Nate Thurmond, Wes Unseld...
You're on fire Jonny! Great video as always
Jonny, you’re becoming my favorite vlogger. This video was amazing and we need to see more. I already knew about most these guys because I grew up watching the NBA in the 80’s! Keep up the good work!😊
Cannot wait till you get to Mark Price and Kevin Johnson. Two of my favorite players growing up.
This is dope, I just wanna keep growing my basketball knowledge. Exactly the type of videos I’m looking for!
Thanks for this video, I can't wait to see the other videos, I hope some youngsters can be inspired to get more educated about these guys who may not all be superstars but for sure they were not just some dudes on the court!
Never forgetting to like another Jonny Arnett vid. This dude is just too good with the content ong deserves the rec!!
Amazing idea for a video and it's why I like this channel so much. While I like discourse about modern basketball, I also massively appreciate going back and looking at things we may have forgotten about the past!
I don't subscribe/comment/anything on youtube, but this is the best series i've seen. please keep it up.
I enjoyed Vin Baker in the 90s. I mailed basketball cards out to a few players, and he was kind enough to autograph it and mail it back.
Fantastic video Jonny!! I'm a 49-year-old fan who was mainly raised on 1980's and 90's NBA basketball and it is great to see guys from my era represented.
Antawn Jamison was a bucket in the 2000’s. Also I think you currently have the best basketball content on TH-cam and probably give the best takes as well.
Great New Video Idea. Much love as always 💯❤️✌🏻
Thanks man I like how u put Dave bing and Nate archibald
omgggg jonny u make my day🤝🏾
hey man great idea, i would love to lean more about players you normally dont hear from
Bogues is so underrated just because of the fact that his height did not stop him from being a talented player against guys a foot taller than him
Steve Francis, World B. Free, Mo Cheeks, Damon Stoudamire, Deron Williams, Randolph Childress, Travis Best, God Shammgod, Allen Houston, Mark Price, Dan Majerle, just to name a few.
👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 appreciate your work young man. Highlighting Walt Bellamy, Dave Bing & Tiny Archibald in this video continues to show you do your research. Suggesting Norm Nixon, Gus Johnson & Connie Hawkins for future videos. Keep up the great work.
Great list and great content as usual 👍
Excellent content as always and great idea too. I have a couple guys: Rod Strickland and Agent 0 Gilbert Arenas
Love these types of videos Jonny
Great series hope it continues
Muggsy Bogues didn't make it to the All-Star Game during his playing days, but he was a very good NBA player.
Especially Bogues passing and assists are great.
I loved the 1990s Charlotte Hornets.
Glen Rice played for them correct me if I’m wrong.
He had a top five MVP finish.
Mitch Richmond. Never gets enough love. Even Jordan said he was absolute hell.
Absolutely love this idea! Multiple lists sounds perfect! Keep being a basketball encyclopedia for all of us! The Basketball Hall of Fame needs more people like you! 🏀
Wonderful video! Please mention Sean Elliott, the guy had incredible potential.
Alex English, Jack Sikma, Xavier McDaniel, Dan Majerle, Ron Harper, Glen Rice, Horace Grant, Rik Smits, Detlef Schrempf, Jeff Hornacek, Chris Mullin, Steve Smith, Toni Kukoc, Mitch Richmond, Wayman Tisdale, Jeff Malone, Bernard King, World B. Free, Dan Issel, Billy Cunningham
I’ve been at a tough work session for some days now and coming home late at night to this just made me literally cry I love this channel
Elite Video can’t wait for this series
Astonishing content, I love it
19 likes and uploaded 2 mins ago when the vid is 13 mins long. You got some loyal fans Jonny lmao
my votes would be for jack sikma, allen houston, Sidney Moncrief, Fat Lever, John Starks, Adrian Dantley, Bernard King, Alvin Robertson.
Fun fact: Pearl Jam’s original name was “Mookie Blaylock” and their first album is called Ten because that was his number
I hope Adrian dantley is in the next one. I’d also love to see Petrovic, and maybe mark Eaton
Xavier McDaniels artis Gilmore jack sikma Gus Williams terry cummings George mcginnis (even though most of his success was in the aba) and even though he was an mvp bob mcadoo not enough people know how dominant of a scorer he was
love the new series!
new favorite series cant wait for coming episodes
Great series. Hope you include: Gus Johnson, Connie Hawkins, Alex English, Norm Nixon, Calvin Murphy, & Mark Price
Love this idea, please make these until you run out of players
Good job as always Jonny.
I've been appalled since reading Bill Simmons' Walter Bellamy segment in the former's The Book of Basketball.
It was simply too derogatory of a player who slightly foreshadowed what was to come in Wilt Chamberlain.
I'd recommend Jack Sikma what with the love you gave the Sonics in this video.
Dope series. Reggie Evans! His rebounding per 36 numbers were ridiculous at times
Thanks Jonny!
Great video as always!! How about Mark Price, Rolondo Blackmon, Drazen Petrovic, & Alex English.
the only player i havent heard of was Fred Brown (and Chris Ford who was mentioned in the same bit) i love your videos
Nice Walk down memory lane Jonny.
Thank you for this video 🙂👍
Downtown Freddy Brown! Man, it's been a minute since I heard that name! Very enjoyable. Looking forward to future installments!
