    The main way to pass training is the mindset. Example: The Department of the Navy released a pre-BUD/S ( SEAL training )training program, which allowed them to be more fit. But the only problem was that the SAME amount of people were quitting compared to when they did not have pre-BUDS/S, but the only difference was they were quitting more fit. So 90% is mental and not physical. A little nugget of advice to the the next generation!

    So my dad was in desert storm, the invasion of Panama, and so many other operations when he was in the 160th SOAR and when we go to shoot some skeet he always says drink water. He says this cause when he was on deployment he drank 3 gallons of water A DAY cause it is like lubricant for your joints and helps your eyes see better. When I tried drinking a gallon of water in 6 hours not only was I feeling good but I was also seeing the target so much better and was very energetic. This shows me that I need to listen to my dad to be in special forces.

    I never passed SF selection in Australia but the fear thing was real. But I’d say don’t let a fear of something stop you from attempting anything. I’d rather try and fail that regret not trying.
    It was what I really wanted to do since forever. I am afraid of heights and PTS (our airborne school) was next level for me and the second scariest thing I’ve experienced, at the time it was the worst, but I pushed through it showed me that you can be scared and still work through situations which helped me later. In the end I spent most of my later career in support of SF and still jumping until a jump injury meant no more and was a career ender.

      Selection in AUS is no joke. I know a blokethat got through Happy Wanderer and was still told he's not suitable

    • @bornepatrol
      @bornepatrol 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrClone655 in the limited experience I had with SASR selections and Reo training you’d have a lot who’d physically pass the course but are non selects because of performance in future courses it was fairly high for a while that people had the physical ability for selection course but lacked the ability to continue further. Almost everyone I met who failed said they fail land nav. I lacked service maturity. I’ll admit that. Was told to come back next time. Unfortunately a parachuting accident ended my chances of going further.
      There was one time after a selection course (the one they done the documentary Search for Warriors) they were boarding a C130 after for travel to start the next phase of training. On the 10% DG check the air movements staff found DG in a pack. The person who’s forgot it was fuming and said he just forgot so not to punish everyone with a 100% check. That didn’t fly. So that resulted in a full 100% inspection. The Warrant Officer asked who had the DG as he was ready to pull them there and then and send them back to their parent unit. Some view that as a minor transgression but that attention to detail means a lot. That DS was not allowed on the flight and he was sent back to the squadron. Was told of he can’t do the right thing why should he select others.

      @@bornepatrol 100% agree, you need to be somewhat grounded as an operator. Old matey I mentioned was fit as fuck, but expected everyone else to be as high performing physically as he was. Gist I got is that the instructors chewed on and saw it as a personality issue.
      One of my boxing instructors from yonks ago was 3RAR back when they were still para, had to get med discharged from an injury too. That stuff is rough man, it's a shame it affected you too.
      Getting kicked off REO would have been a bummer for this bloke lol, really can't be making minor mistakes on such a serious course where attention to detail is everything. I'm assuming this was pretty early in the REO cycle?

    • @bornepatrol
      @bornepatrol 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrClone655 yeah some of them that I met at the regiment over my career were not what you’d expect physically and others were studs. From my first lot of time working with them in the late 99’s until 2013 there was a huge variety of guys making it. The commandos were pretty staple in my eyes although I only had experience with them from 2006-2010.
      Mad respect for the guys at 3 jumping more than other units and it takes its toll. I mean it’s nothing compared to those in the US but it takes its toll for sure. I can’t get over how much they jump in the US, but they have a bigger budget. My wife’s uncle was the welfare officer at 3RAR when they lost their wings and moved up to Townsville. So hard for them moving and losing jump status affected a lot mentally and personally he said, plus they always seem to get shafted with extra duties.

    I dislocated my shoulder 3 years ago as a swimmer, I thought it was the end of my competitive run at swimming, on the third time I dislocated before my surgery to repair my ligament, my mother told me to put it back in myself, that day I learned that pain does not matter, don't give it a voice. I got back into swimming, first I kicked then I swam, I was able to make state cuts and get a 26 second 50 freestyle. 2 years later I cut down to a 23.76 50 freestyle and am still improving, I plan on trying to get to regionals. I learned to push myself beyond limits, work hard for what I want, and not feel pain when going through it. Jay, you hit the nail on the head with what you said about becoming a GB. One thing I had to do was put all emotional attachments aside and focus on me and the over all goal of what i was trying to achieve for myself and my family. All the nagging and complain and all the ones that doubted me coming out of the infantry, not only did i prove them wrong but proved to myself I had what it takes to become a GB. I used all of the negativity as motivation because in my mind (speaking for myself) if you don't have the heart and drive to deal with the pain because you will get injured and if you can't push pass that pain and continue being a GB isn't for you. Not saying push yourself to wear you a permanently injured, but there are times you going to have to ignore your body and mental toughness takes over. My two cents!! D.O.L

    You know the best heart to hearts I have ever had where from Green Berets…You want a solid friend, someone that’s dependable, and will give it to you straight that’s a Green Beret. I want to say that the mental is a must, meaning you have to be inherently motivated, motivated to learn, motivated to take action, and motivated to continue forward. Being a person that needs a push won’t get you far you have to be willing find the punch within yourself. If you don’t understand what I am saying, do you workout four times per week without fail, do you move through difficult challenges without quitting, do you seek out knowledge (skills, courses, and training), do you not feel discouraged by the weather/by trivial things/by being tired etc, and do you seek out challenges. Be honest.

    I'm not planning to join the military soon (if ever) but this is gold.
    I've always wondered what SF-Units are like.
    (from what i've known of interviews, they are usually quite bright, well behaved and self-controlled.)
    It is just fascinating to get a picture of how SF-Units think.

    Number 3 is something that might be my biggest obstacle. I need to remember that I need to make my own decisions, but at the same time I need to be completely transparent with my wife. No deception, no omission, no room for misunderstanding, while I communicate with her.

    The main reason why I like hanging out with the SF guys is their mindset. These are the type of people who always give first before anything else. These are the people who grind and hustle more than anything else. I am not as committed as these guys but talking to them and learning about their experiences has changed my perspective on life.

    Im 17 and I wanna become a Army Ranger, my mom and dad are against me doing it as soon as I graduate and are constantly pushing me away from it. It makes me wanna do it more just to prove them that I can do it but I know that isn't the right mindset to go into army airborne ranger school or even the right mindset to go into any branch, but I'm doing to do it. I regret starting it a year and a half before I wanna join but I'm gonna do it.

      You could probably start by understanding the difference of ‘Ranger’ by not defining it as airborne/Ranger school but as to RASP and those others come along after graduating. Probably some key things you want to know before you want to ‘be’ it.

    Joining the Canadian Reserves (Currently 16.) in a month or two, then when I turn 17 I'm joining the main force as a Infantryman (The dream of shooting a C9 LMG is real) and I'd love to be apart of CSOR or JTF2 if I'm ever good enough to even be a candidate, I don't even know if I could do the selection and training. Would love to try it though, making the world a better place through means which politics and honeyed words can't.
