Its the same thing with working out, and training. You better do as much now as possible because later when your having to run 5 miles with someone on your back, put them down every 300 feet to engage the enemy your going to want to have eaten that extra bite of pasta, one more rep, or run that extra mile in training when there wasn’t risk of death.

This is helpful. I used to weigh over 400 pounds. I need to have both knee joints replaced. My orthopedic surgeon said that I needed to get down to 275 pounds to be approved for my first of two surgeries. I hit that goal today! But I can improve my diet, cut back on the caffeine and quit vaping. I cannot walk unassisted. So I use a wheeled walker. I went over 2.5 miles today. It is grueling, especially on trails. It took me an hour. I want to improve my time and distance before my first surgery. So I am going to incorporate low impact calisthenics. It's back to bootcamp, but gimp bootcamp. The nutritional advice was sound and useful. Thank you, Roger "Doc" Thompson.

I love your channel name, it reminds me of a realization I had during boxing training. Everything in life is a fight, its a fight to maintain a proper work out schedule, its a fight to eat properly, some days its a fight to just take care of yourself properly. Its a fight to get up on time for work some days, and on those days more often than not a fight to put in effort at your job. The strongest opponent you will ever face is yourself, and that's a fight you must win.

I was pretty fit in my 20s being an airborne paratrooper, albeit eating junk food and all. Now in my 40's I started eating carnivore (a more strict form of Keto) about 3 years ago. I have waaay more energy, endurance and no up-and-down blood sugar levels. I am fitter and feel better now than in my 20's. Once you become a fat burner instead of a glucose burner, it doesn't matter if I don't eat for a day or two. No cravings, no hunger pangs. There is a reason the Huns were some of the best warriors that ever walked the earth, creating one of the biggest empires in history. They mostly ate horse meat. You can carry waaayyy more calories in the form of fat than in the form of glucose. Glucose deposits have to constantly be replenished (hence why so many people snack) But the mitochondria have to be trained to become fat (ketone) burning instead of glucose. For some that grew up on junk this can take months. But the benefits are clear: latest research shows that most of the modern chronic diseases are a result of constantly elevated insulin levels. Eliminate the insulin spikes (by going low/no carb) and you not only stay healthy but have an abundance of energy as well. I wish I had known this when I was an active military member.

I am impressed about how scientific you guys are these days. The hiking sites all talk about carb and protein loading too. All this about falling off of a caffeine and sugar rush. In Vietnam on patrol in serious mountain forest I took a can of tuna fish a day which I shared with my counterparts for a bowl of rice. I don’t recall getting weak because the normal beer available at district hq was no longer available. Big strong guys couldn’t make it in the heat and humidity; you wanted small lean guys. And we kept the weight down.

Your videos are amazing. Thanks for all your hard work and effort putting them together. Recently my son tried to enlist in the Canadian National Armed Forces ( army branch). Even though my son is in amazing physical shape and would have been able to pass basic training no problem they would not accept him. The problem is he failed the aptitude test given before you even sign the 3 year contract. My son is not that great in math and spacial concepts so that is the part he did not do well on. It's a shame because the army would have been absolutely amazing for him. He is only 19 and needs direction in his life. The army would have straightened him right out. The army said that he can come back in a year from now and rewrite the aplitude test. I really hope that he passes the opportune test next time he takes it, the army is exactly what he needs..

My PT score were never great but average. What I did excel in was endurance. Some guys scored the infamous 300 in the pt tests but could not keep up mentally or physically in forced marches or long field training. I took every experience to adjust or tweak myself for the next event.

I am tall and was skinny, but after changing my diet i am a perfect middle ground and adapt easily to the seasons. The main change i made was high protein all the time, eating every 3 hours to maximize muscle recovery and also not enter ketosis.
One of the reasons i stated out of the military is the quality of food, as i am an organic farmer and have made my food quality my lifestyle, because it plays a huge role as far as allotment of nutrients per pound of food, but i assume there are not a lot of local organic options in military chow halls

I know a lot dudes out there will say they understand but when you pound pickets 3 x 300 meter triple strand put in a couple minefields and many other things while doing infantry work and carrying around all the shit you need to do its a bit different. Stay healthy, eat when you can, and keep awake; slinging around heavy and dangerous shit , and playing with Demo is deadly mix.

Yes, actually you do want to show up at SERE-school at little fat. How fat are we talking? Not as fat as you think. I'm talking about some extra fat on your torso and legs. Every day you are going to be burning off 4000-6000+ calories a day, and not even consuming more than 500-700 calories each day. You will come out of it looking really ripped.
At SERE-school you are going to be starving, and as you said, running away from people who are trying to capture you. You are lucky if you eat 1 time a day. You are not going to be sleeping very much and not sleeping very comfortably. At the end, you get captured and you will not spend the next 36 hours as a captive. You will be beaten up, your already sleep deprived and hungry ass will not be fed and you will be sleep deprived further on as a method to try to make you crack/ talk.
The primary source of energy in your body is glucose(carbs) and that's not a very efficient energy source. Once there is no glucose left in your body, your body will not start to utilize fat as an energy source. Fat is a much better energy source than glucose.
      Here is why:
      1 gram of carbs(glucose) = 4 calories (energy)
1 gram of fat = 9 calories (energy)
As you can see, fat has over double the amount of energy in 1 gram than what 1 gram of carbs has. So you can see why some extra bodyfat will come in handy when you are not eating very much.

Nick Bare is a former infantry platoon commander who did rangerschool but he was never serving as a US ranger. Rasp and rangerschool are very different after all since RS is a leadership course and RASP is the actual training of rangers.

Haven’t been in that long (little over a year) I’m in the reserves looking to get out sometime soon and I’ve been looking into doing spec ops and I’ve been wondering how I should start eating so thank you for the video and information!
