Many Police Department jobs in Cali pay well over $150,000/year and some over $200K a year in just base pay and various bonuses, NOT including benefits (medical, dental, vision, retirement etc) for bottom of the ladder patrol officers with 3.5 years of service. Hours worked are significantly less than military with many working 4 x ten hour shifts per week or 3 x 12 hour shifts per week. With overtime some cops can add another $100k + to their salaries. And most cops will never actually have to shoot their weapon even once during their whole career. Not an easy job and not respected by many folks but on average they earn a LOT more than career military, With a lot less time, or impact on their lives from deployments etc.
@gnomethegamer9706 $200k per year in a major city in California is like $90k a year in most other states. Not bad, but you ain't rich. The cost of living and taxes are what kills your salary.
Chipping in with some Australian info: I was a Lance Corp in 2CDO and on AU$135k p/a base (with free medical & dental). Pretty sure it’s gone up a little since I left in 2020. We also get rent assistance, basically half my rent was paid (and all of while deployed), or some assistance towards your mortgage. Deployments (usually 5mo) are completely tax free and you get a daily allowance ($200 a day in Afghan), so you’re usually coming home with roughly $70k saved, depending on rank and your spending habits. There was a small difference in pay between 2CDO & SAS during my time, but I’m pretty sure it’s all equal now.
@@ValhallaVFT this was no secret to us mate, we were quite aware of the massive pay difference between Aus & US SF while deployed, we all knew it was best not to mention it when we hung out (I think that was even included in some briefs I’ve received 😂). For perspective though, our cost of living is higher, ie: the median house price in Sydney is currently $1.6m (US$1.1m).
@@marstuv5068 most of Australia’s space is uninhabitable mate, the VAST majority of our population is located on a few small areas close to the ocean, and mainly on the South East coast. That counts me out by the time I take out my lambo servicings and country club membership I'm left with 30k to live on for the year. Would have been a cool job though, I'm a big Tim Kennedy fan and it does sound cool, may need to go mercenary for a few years.
@@akselleal4130 once you get out of the barracks military service is an instant slingshot into the middle class. If you have high test scores pick an MOS that will pay six figures outside the military, whether it's a medical field, intel, or computers. If you don't have high test scores, apply yourself to studying and improve yourself. What amazed me and kept me going were the merit based opportunities (and yes physical fitness is an important part of merit). Enlisted, I was sent to get a Master's degree as my place of duty 2 days a week for 2 years.
@ so I shouldn’t focus to much on the field even tho yes it comes with it I should use more smarts then physical once I’m done with military training ?
Very informative. I always wondered how you bad boys got paid. I have family members who are retired from Army but regular stuff. Thanks for sharing and glad you made it through your service and can enjoy. Thanks for what you did.
army pay (especially deployment) goes way further than civilian. It’s untaxed and there are far fewer deductions before health insurance is free (this is almost always hundreds of dollars a pay check) and shit like life insurance is dirt cheap. a $70000 army salary is more equivalent to like $100,000 civilian salary
@SaintsSpecOps yes and no I mean when I was in I spent way more time in the field and at work then I did at home and when you really add in the hours you work compared to what you make you don’t make shit 😂.
Growing up in a very Navy town but not having any relatives in the service, I always wondered how the military pay panned out. Based on your presentation, it looks like a standard E7 can make somewhat close to the figures presented. Granted, they aren't going to get the monster reenlistment combat bonus, but I would imagine they would get something even if they were just pushing papers. What strikes me is whether private term life is available to active combat personnel without a penalty. Considering the mortality rates, if one could buy at standard rates, it is compelling to buy as much as possible.
I'm so glad that you guys are being paid closer to what you're worth. I don't care if you're a cook "I'm just a cook", or an operator. You ALL deserve to pays at the top of your field. You all gave some, some of you have all. I'm forever in your debt, as every single one of you contributed to the remaining freedom I, and all patriots still have.
Compute that with 80hrs a week, lol. Now for some more numbers, retired O5 regular Army and currently working as a government GS employee (pulling in 200K a year with my Army retirement and GS pay which is only 40 hours a week!). Salute
As an Aussie private in Infantry during my Iraq trip, I was pulling $4600 per fortnight (2 weeks) tax free (USD about $3125). Get back home, its halved and taxed.
My nephew is an 18B and we compared salaries. I was a fed agent GS-14 with 15 years on the job. He and I made about the same and about half of his salary was not taxed. Around $150k a year.
Approximately 4x from what a UK Royal Marine Commando or Parachute Regiment. Even Tier 1 UKSF guys only get a 30-40% bump over regular pay scales. The UK military pay is sickening.
In Australia we have Commandos, SAS and Clearance Divers. All are paid well by military standards (from memory an SAS Trooper is on over $100k inside of Australia). However the Private Sector pays much more, so retention has been a big issue especially during GWOT. Less hours and double the pay, which obviously the military cannot match.
@marstuv5068 no problem at all mate. It's kind of like the difference between Green Berets or Delta vs Rangers. The SAS, while very good at direct action, are primarily for reconnaissance and embedding with and training indigenous forces to help against the enemy. They often go undercover as well- like Green Berets and Delta. Commandos are the hard hitters. Grunts on steroids. When you need something destroyed or someone dead, they do it very efficiently and very quickly. A hit squad if you will. Small teams. Highly trained. Their primary role is killing or capturing enemy. Like the Rangers. Basically SAS recon and gather intel. The Commandos are sent in to destroy a target based off of said intel and recon the SAS gathered👍
Can you do a video on stress/fight or flight management? This is for reacting cool and calm when shit hits the fan for everyday people. Such as a dude trying to rob you or fight you in a bar etc
Ok, now divide that by half for alimony, child support, and legal fees 😢 The greatest challenge of all is staying married throughout all of the training, readiness exercises, and deployments. Lastly, the best advice that I can give to anyone on active duty is to go to an actual military treatment facility when you're injured. Always ask for a diagnosis and keep a hard copy and e-copy at home. You will need to provide all of that documentation and spoon feed it to the VA when you get out. My easiest claims to prove to the VA were those that were well documented at MTFs (especially when I had a diagnosis from senior medical officers, i.e., O-6s).
This is a nice perk but don’t go into the military if you care about money. If you can become a GB you can easily make $200k by 30 and $500k plus by 40 in the private sector. This without any risk of grievous bodily harm.
Idk if you can "easily" make 500K in the private sector by 40. That'd probably include smart investments, passive income, the full retirement bonuses...if you're making over 250K by 40 in a city that isn't in Cali you're doing really, really good at the current trajectory.
Slightly related to tuition assistance. When you get out you can qualify for Vocational Rehabilitation or VR&E if you go into the trades it will make up the difference between apprentice and journey pay and it's also tax free. So while you are going through your apprenticeship you'll be making more than the journeyman around you. It's a huge deal and not enough people know about it.
And $3700 for 14-23 month extension. Before taxes. Tier dropped. If you were still in you’d be like wtf… along with the other who declined the manifest to go resign over ‘there’.
In Australia, a lot more when on deployment. And it adds up significantly more over time as you get years and training qualifications under your belt. When you’re back onshore, it is less, but the benefits are still pretty good, as they across all the services.
Great vid. As a former 11c, it would nice if you could do a video on how many guys are going back into the Army. Also maybe something on the status of the world and how the Army needs MEN to defend our country. IMO it’s not a matter of IF, but WHEN? The Sergeant Major of The Army just recently said that he thinks we’re in a 1939 type moment and time frame. I’ve been out for a long time now and a little older than you. I’ve considered going back in for awhile now. I’ve talked to a Ranger Recruiter and a 18x recruiter. So I’m starting to work out again and will go back depending on what happens on Nov 5. SF dudes are a different breed, but in a good way. Thanks for your sacrifice. Most have no clue! 💯💪
Do you have a link on him talking about that? I actually 💯 agree with that statement, I’ve been parroting that myself. That’s actually a video I’ve been mulling around in my head.

So a first year cop in Queensland could be on up to $175-200,000/year before tax

Hey brother! I very much love and appreciate all the info you've provided. I've been looking going into SF for awhile and you help solidified my decision! Would you be able to do a video om SF Warrant Officers? I'm very curious what they do
Dude, in the military, pay is the same regardless of job; the main difference is between Enlisted and Officer roles. Now, if you are a civilian contractor, that is a huge difference. I am not going to tell you what my cousin does, who was a PJ in the USAF, but he works for a private military contractor and he makes $1,400 per day, yes, it is not a typo, you read it right.
Was it misspoken or is BAH really E7+ for SF? On the conventional side of the house it's E6+, sometimes even E5 depending on duty station. Also where are the guys not getting BAH living? On post housing or barracks? Admittedly was under the impression everyone was getting BAH and the freedom to choose where they live after getting on a team. Great video though, as a normie infantry nco it's a bit shocking to see the pay gap for sure lol. We all know it's not the same but no one ever does the math on how different it actually is.
DAMN! It’s been 30 years since I was in SF, which for anyone that reads this SF is dangerous even in stateside training. I was paralyzed from the chest down in a HAHO accident. Take that into account when considering joining SF. So when I was in there was no demolition pay or incentive pay and our bonuses were capped at $20,000. I don’t fault anyone for the extra pay that I didn’t get, SF had a very drop rate in Selection alone, and the Q Course wasn’t easy either. Not to mention multiple deployments everywhere and tons of schools when you first get to a Group. We were gone all of the time even pre-9/11, very high divorce rate.
In Australia Special Forces for what is expected, specialised training and unique capabilities they are under paid, but federal govt pension is good. They’re paid less than a skilled construction worker (working on a big build project) who does not have all the personal risks. When ex special forces soldiers are employed privately ie a security expert, their wages are significantly higher.
Our soldiers, war fighters, all of them, it isn’t enough! I seriously believe they should be some of our highest paid government employees. They put their lives in the line for all us citizens. I appreciated all veterans and current military for your service to our country! Plus, who wouldn’t rather pay these guys way more money than freakin politicians! 🇺🇸💪🙏🏻

you can find that in many websites. Salary and BAH are all published and even show localized rates based on location/rank/years of service. Same for per diem. Bonus details may be harder to find, but all the basics are readily accessible. When you factor in the pension, healthcare, and the VA home loans it is very compelling business case for people to join the military versus private sector or other government work.

They will shoot their weapons if based in Cali... that I asure u
But a 4 bedroom house in an area decent enough to stay long term and raise a family is $800k or more.
I live in the uk and I know cali is a cesspool but for that money where do I sign up?
@gnomethegamer9706 $200k per year in a major city in California is like $90k a year in most other states. Not bad, but you ain't rich. The cost of living and taxes are what kills your salary.
@@kmin3434 I'm more florida man material in all honesty!
Damn dude, they paid us 3$ a day for Afghanistan lol. We did get extra pays for combat zone but nothing like that lol.
@@k9_steveDamn, why is housing soo expensive?? With all that "space" you have [in Australia]

@@marstuv5068 most of Australia’s space is uninhabitable mate, the VAST majority of our population is located on a few small areas close to the ocean, and mainly on the South East coast. Although Australia is similar in size to the US, most of our land is far too dry/rugged/isolated etc to easily support human life and/or infrastructure. Savage country! 🇦🇺
That counts me out by the time I take out my lambo servicings and country club membership I'm left with 30k to live on for the year. Would have been a cool job though, I'm a big Tim Kennedy fan and it does sound cool, may need to go mercenary for a few years.
For my marines out there. Marsoc is offering 100k bonuses if you reenlist and get selected and pass their q course

I wanna to join the army I know the starting pay won’t be amazing but how much would u think I’ll make and the benifits when I rank up
@@akselleal4130 once you get out of the barracks military service is an instant slingshot into the middle class.
@HAMMERTIMEBB Lmao 🤣 Marsoc is going bye bye so idk why they would to that lol
@ so I shouldn’t focus to much on the field even tho yes it comes with it I should use more smarts then physical once I’m done with military training ?
Very informative. I always wondered how you bad boys got paid. I have family members who are retired from Army but regular stuff. Thanks for sharing and glad you made it through your service and can enjoy. Thanks for what you did.
Thank You for your service 🇺🇲
Love this channel. Very informative
Great breakdown !
🫡
army pay (especially deployment) goes way further than civilian. It’s untaxed and there are far fewer deductions before health insurance is free (this is almost always hundreds of dollars a pay check) and shit like life insurance is dirt cheap. a $70000 army salary is more equivalent to like $100,000 civilian salary
Cold hard facts that most Service Members can't accept.
@SaintsSpecOps yes and no I mean when I was in I spent way more time in the field and at work then I did at home and when you really add in the hours you work compared to what you make you don’t make shit 😂.
No matter the end cost, your still under paid. Thank you and your family for you service
Well said brother
Compute that with 80hrs a week, lol. Now for some more numbers, retired O5 regular Army and currently working as a government GS employee (pulling in 200K a year with my Army retirement and GS pay which is only 40 hours a week!). Salute
As an Aussie private in Infantry during my Iraq trip, I was pulling $4600 per fortnight (2 weeks) tax free (USD about $3125). Get back home, its halved and taxed.
This is a banal example of you not being transparent regarding your pay. You probably don't even know how much you were actually earning.
@ Did you want a sticker from daddy for your daily validation?
My nephew is an 18B and we compared salaries. I was a fed agent GS-14 with 15 years on the job. He and I made about the same and about half of his salary was not taxed. Around $150k a year.
As an e5/e6 last year I made more than my GS-13 spouse due to the tax advantages I enjoy.
Excellent breakdown. Thank You Nate. 🇺🇸
Approximately 4x from what a UK Royal Marine Commando or Parachute Regiment. Even Tier 1 UKSF guys only get a 30-40% bump over regular pay scales. The UK military pay is sickening.
Do they charge soldiers for lost or left gear ?
In Australia we have Commandos, SAS and Clearance Divers. All are paid well by military standards (from memory an SAS Trooper is on over $100k inside of Australia). However the Private Sector pays much more, so retention has been a big issue especially during GWOT. Less hours and double the pay, which obviously the military cannot match.
What's the difference between Commandos and SAS, if you'll pardon my ignorance??
@@jessebell1930 ok, thanks for the info/clarification. I am now "a little less ignorant" 😁😄
@marstuv5068 my pleasure. Unsure about the laughing emojis and shit but that is basically the rundown.
Can you do a video on stress/fight or flight management? This is for reacting cool and calm when shit hits the fan for everyday people. Such as a dude trying to rob you or fight you in a bar etc
I’m doing a video on how SF taught me to manage fear/stress/anxiety next week. Should be along those lines
@@ValhallaVFTthats actually an amazing idea for a video
It's hard to get a job in the private sector without previous military experience though.
Even if you make Base Pay, the Adventure is what counts. Stay Green.
13:25 $140,000/year is in the top 12% of earners.
Rog, close guess. Thanks.
Good video nate!
Ranger regiment is offering 25k bonuses now….. not so a decade or so ago, lol
Uncle Sam should give you a bonus for recruitment service. Seriously. If I was young again, you hooked me.
Ya'll are worth every penny! The best of the best=better pay (even in the civilian world)

@@ValhallaVFT It’s The Jedburgh Podcast video posted 3 weeks ago. Name of video= Army’s Top Sergeant on Modern Warefare & Recruiting Tactics. He says a lot without saying it, if you know what I mean. But he tells the game plan for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. It’s a good listen.
Side note- I live near 10th group and you SF dudes stand out like a sore thumb. But not in a negative way. Most can’t tell who you guys are. But you guys are the baddest dudes on this earth but pretending to fit in and be normal. Which is why I can tell who you guys are. Because that’s the same mentality and mindset I’ve had my entire life. Before and after the Army. I wished i would’ve never gone regular Army because the S bags and sham artists who were lazy and lacked integrity. Not a day has gone by that I don’t wish I was back in. But with high integrity soldiers like SF or Rangers. Obviously I’m a little older now. But when my kids were young, I wasn’t going to put them through deployments when my wife needed help. But my kids are older now and times are different, for obvious reason. But like I said I got to get my body right, and then go from there. One thing I do know. Not nearly enough when you consider here in Australia the Queensland police force pay first year cops $100,000 and if you’re willing to work away from home and sporting events and assorted unpopular working times it’s $150,000+ rent, plus super annuation + 6 weeks paid leave + overtime. So a first year cop in Queensland could be on up to $175-200,000/year before tax
100,000 in Australia has got to VERY different than in the states
Very good explanation
Thats fair for what you're doing for us. Man i thought when we lost a marine in combat it was alot. To lose any life is terrible but now thinking it over special opps would be alot. Worth every penny im for moving it up because of your families im for paying the wife another 20k military spouse pay. That would make me happy you guys Really do alot stuff. A great explanation thank you!
I left the British army in 1989. 6 years as a grade 1 infantry solider. £22 per day
You would've made more begging on the side of the road.
And this doesn’t even take into account the adrenaline rushs that you get paid for. I mean, you get paid to skydive, blow up stuff, scuba dive. You get to hang out with the best people in the military. All the vacation destinations that you get to enjoy. Hoo-Yah baby!
The pay structure was always better, with special forces, Rangers, Delta , seal teams

Depends on where you’re at. Some places it’s E-6s and above, others like Okinawa it’s E-7 and above. Or if your married any rank.
Sir I would say it needs to be doubled. Thank everybody that has ever served. GOD BLESS
Very well explain !
Our soldiers, war fighters, all of them, it isn’t enough! I seriously believe they should be some of our highest paid government employees. They put their lives in the line for all us citizens.

Plus, who wouldn’t rather pay these guys way more money than freakin politicians!

I know states are changing laws that you have to show the salary or hourly pay rate which is nice looking up jobs, i have been on interviews and said nope when they would talk about the pay, now it has to show it.
Can't believe I have been out over 10 years ago now. It sounds like the rules have changed a little bit from when I ETS'd. Never an extra dime for my MOS class when you are talking about the bonus structure to retain troops currently. During my 25 it was lets see how many new ones we can recruit and let the special skill troops just retire. Not Bitchin', just a statement for all those currently serving. Thank you to the 1.5 million or so that are taking care of my "old butt" now! M
Most states are now requiring employer to post salary ranges on job listings.
Not exactly sure how it works but seals can get Submarine Duty Pay, they probably have to qualify submarines to get it. I was a Submariner in the 1980s.
I'm pretty sure that you are understating the cost of medical and dental. We pay about $1200/month for a couple, and I am on medicare.
@@jaayjr2516 I'm old and my genes turn out to be poor. My respect and affection for my medical folks is high and worth every penny. Even as to the healthiest of us, one cannot make an appointment for an emergency.
I would love to only pay $500/mo for medical insurance. I pay over $1,100/month for health only, no dental and this is just for me, no wife or kids. And, my deductible and coinsurance is high. I think your benefit is underestimated.
Being ex-service and looking at the specialised teams from the outside, the training you have to go through, deployments, separation from family, mental health etc etc etc all special ops team members should be on more money. I know for a fact that as personal security for various clients pays a truck load of $$$$ , it might be time for management in the military to ask.... what can we do to keep the spec ops teams in for longer.👍💪👍💪👍💪🇦🇺🐰
That’s why I got out and contracted same job and made between 3500- 4200 a week !!!
I’m curious to know what an Officer would make (0-3,0-4). Currently going in as an 11a, gonna make that an 18 when the time comes, curious on if that makes any difference. Although morally it shouldn’t
BAH and base pay will be higher but other numbers will look the same. I’d expect closer to 180-200k per year all things considered.
you can find that in many websites.
Cool video. That guy from delta force spoke like 6 languages. Do you get more money based on the language? I would think Chinese Arabic etc would be hard.
Most aren't doing it for the pay, but for the lifestyle.

That base pay includes lots of hours even more if deployed and time away from family.
as a retired building maintenance man with social security, i earn about $112000 a year. i do not have paid insurance but because i am receiving Medicare, supplemental insurance is not overly expensive. my point? special forces do receive a good salary but it does not make them rich and it does not completely give them enough to truly compensate them for their sacrifices'.
Most military didn’t join for the money, and regardless of allowances and jump, flight, haz duty, sea pay, it still doesn’t come close.
Do mind doing a video on enlistment bonuses & how it’s broken up for the new comers. I’m going to take the 18x route. I’m not in for the money but I don’t wanna leave money on the table either.
