God, I was scared for a minute that this was your pick of the week! My problem with Doom becoming Sorcerer Supreme is that he became Iron Man about 6 years ago. Let me know when Doom becomes Jeff the Land Shark.
This was to set up Doom for the Doom event where they can pre-plan/establish the upcoming MCU Doom storyline. Comics are now used to pave the way for their movie properties.
It was an event that seemed far more interested in moving the different pieces of Jed MacKay's Marvel books around, than actually telling a good story in its own right. At least the Fantastic Four and The Incredible Hulk had some pretty good tie-ins.
First off, thank you Wes for introducing me to Weird Comics. Great channel. Blood Hunt is a lot of ideas but none of them fleshed out: All vampires are day walkers. I liked this idea of vampires co-existing with humans the first time in HBO Trü Blood. T’Challa & Miles are still vampires. Book of Mormon has this right? Doom as Sorcerer Supreme was the best reveal. Marc Spector is back. Honestly does anyone care? A decent event shifts the Marvel universe as a whole but…this vampire story minimizes Dracula, Morbius, Blade & the horror characters.
Wait so now Miles is immortal?? He's a vampire that coincidently doesn't need to drink blood or is affected by daylight? His parents weren't looking for him while he was a vampire?? Unless all these BIG events take place in 1-2 days why is it no one is ever filing reports for the heroes' secret identities that aren't coming home of going to work??
I can hear the phone conversation from Kevin Feige just fine "Hey guys, do you have anything planned for Doctor Doom" "Nope?" "Really? Whats your next big event?" "Bloodhunt. Its about Blade and Vampires..." "Can you shove Doctor Doom into it and have a Doom event next?" "Sure...any reason why?" "Can't say right now....." That is 100% how that ending felt. Toss Blade aside and now focus on DOOM. You know....just like the MCU is doing....... I mean Dooms whole purpose was "Doom Commands....LET THERE BE LIGHT". 1)Why would the freed Blade not want to kick the vampires you know what from here to hell?! 2)You're saying the SORCERER SUPREME, DOCTOR STRANGE, could not handle a spell that DOCTOR DOOM could?! Pull the other one ok. 3)Clea, who had BEEN THE SORCERER SUPREME COULDN'T HELP STRANGE DO THE SPELL DOOM COULD?!? Again, pull the other one. The ending made no sense and was obviously thrown together to elevate Doom. Why in the hell does Marvel now not understand THATS NOT AN EVENT. Thats what LEADS UP TO AN EVENT. They could have done this in an arc of avengers or doctor strange....you know, like they USED TO. Remember how the incursions started in the regular run of Avengers and New Avengers and LED UP TO THE EVENT?!?! Events are the fall out of something thats been slowly happening....not the fall out of an EVENT! I think the writers at Marvel right now have massive ADHD "I dont want a slow build up to Doom Being Sorcerer Supreme....I want him to be that NOOOOWWWW!!!!" Its like something a kid would write "And Blade is like bad...and fights cap...and is mean...and cap is sad and.....Doctor Doom wooshes in and....and now he's like Superman!!" Yep. thats it...right down to the crayon inspired artwork!
The Bloodhunt main comic was pretty decent to me. It wasn't super epic but it was cool. I think that it was *really* created for the Dr Doom/Sorcerer Supreme reveal
I really enjoyed it. It is weird that all vamps are day walkers and I see the point. There are at least some ramifications beyond the event that will be felt in the overall narrative going forward. It's kinda interesting 🤷♂???
The Vampires will now keep turning all the humans because not even the sun will stop them....think about it. But Sorcerer Suprene Dr. Doom has enormous potential.
@@Wes_From_TC agreed! I really don’t care for taking away Blade’s day walking gimmick, but current marvel only knows how to take what is most unique of a certain character and turn it into something incredibly derivative. Look at what they’ve been doing with Spider-Man! There should only have been one Spider-Man.
It should have been an epic spectacle that horror fans would be able to look at as a project unlike anything seen since the days of horror comics height, because so many content creators talk about how Marvel comics has so many great IPS for Vampires. And while I'm know it could be done with vampires alone (maybe small features of other monsters) it would have been cool to see the countless other monsters they have. If I was Marvel that would have been my aim.
I prefer Millar's Ultimates vs vampires - and the main vampire was just some dude in an old Iron Man suit, lol. It wasn't even that good, but it was at least fun. It was also Millar's lampooning of the "new characters taking dead characters' superhero identities" trope that needs to stop - and this was years ago. Little did we know...
Events should have a limited, self contained scope. I appreciate that among all this event or long arcs going nowhere we had stuff like Ryan North's FF with 1-issue stories. Sure, the quality was up and down, but it was refreshing and it has some great numbers in there.
I have been used to this insufferable garbage since the Brian Michael Bendis days of Avengers, 20 years ago. Every story Bendis wrote for Avengers lead to some stupid event. Avengers Disassembled led to House of M, which led to Civil War, which led to Secret Invasion, which led to Dark Reign, which led to Young Avengers: Children's Crusade, which led to AvX, which led to AXIS, and so on.
Absolutely terrible event. Badly thought out, badly written and ended up being pretty typical of every Marvel event in recent years. Would anyone have bought it if not for the 'red band' versions?
If making Doom the Sorcerer Supreme was the ultimate point of all this confusing mess, why didn't they just make that the story. What a waste of paper most of it sounds. That aside it is a crime Tom Waltz won't be the writer on the main Wolvie title going forward. He has great feelings for the character, understood what worked from Ben Percy's run and ignored what didn't (and wrote Louise better than Percy did). The stench of Krakoa means I'm unlikely to get the ongoing Wolverine anymore than any other X-book, at least not until I both hear it's good and it repudiates Krakoa.. But if it had been Waltz after reading Bloodhunt I would have been sorely tempted.
I don't follow this event but bring back Moon Knight so early took away the weight of your death And Konshu are back too.Ahh the status quo.He never change. Strange being a idiot in trusting Doom and now he are the Sorcerer Supreme from the MU,setting up another event already. Marvel are out of ideas. Blood Hunt was just another cash grab after all. What a shame.
The three positives I’ll give this event: *The idea of Black Panther slowly recovering from vampirism on his own because the Heart-Shaped Herb gradually purged the infection/curse from his system *The reference to Cap-Wolf and the idea of Cap adding some silver to his shield to protect against vampires and werewolves *The fact that they had vampires with powers to fight the Avengers. I don’t know how well it was done, but at least they realized, “Hey, the vampires taking on the Avengers need to be extra powerful because having them go down to regular vampires would make them look like chumps!” You look at comics prior to the 2000s and you realize they didn’t feel the need to have event after event. Sure, there were events, but they weren’t constant. They had storylines and multi-part issues without everything being an event, a company-wide crossover, or a tie-in. Shoot, they even had plenty of stand-alone issues that had little or nothing to do with anything. It might reference previous events or set up for the next issue, but you could skip it and not worry about missing anything. I remember hearing about a splatter film called Mark of the Devil that offered viewers a “stomach distress bag” with each ticket. 🤢
"I did read all of them" I pity anyone who, like me, decided to suffer through Union Jack's blood hunt mini. THAT was absolute trash with zero relation to the main event and insufferable OOC writing for both Union Jack and the villain.
I like many Jed Mackay comics, his runs of Black Cat, Magic The Gathering, Moon Knight, Dr Strange/Strange. Passed on Blood Hunt. Not interested at all.
I thought Annihilation 2099 (which is about Dracula 2099) was a much more fun vampire story, it was so dumb to release two vampire invasion comics around the same time
From one event to another, one does not get to even end before the next starts! Good thing not picking any events since King in Black. And no FOMO for Red Band books
Blade's daughter has such a bad dated 90s/2000s look. Purple hair, grunge Buffy look (I'm Gen X and I can tell you, dark skinned people with purple hair look silly. I have dark skin so I know!) Its like when writers literally adapt a headline for a new story, not realizing it'll look silly within 6 months.
Black Panther Blood Hunt was quite interesting at least for the first few issues. The Avengers tie-in on the Shield Heli-carrier was also interesting but aside from that much of the Blood Hunt stuff could have been condensed.

The main 5 issue should have the center of the story and Pepe Larazz is completely vague with muddy color and the adversaries were dull with absolutely no background with the possibility of them returning and messing up the Marvel comics universe! Who cares?? The blood stains on bagged exclusive comics was a empty marketing stunt, further BS to pitch with lack wit variants and confusion and screw over readers//retailers with lots of empty calories! 60 titles 🚽! Corporate cash grab and I’m done! It’s pointless ! Varnae haa a damn cool origin story from the old B&W Bizarre Adventures series from the 80’s with Swamp Thing artists Stephen Bissete and John Totleben! Novice editorial as usual asleep at their post? This could’ve been a one shot reprint tie in with Blood Stool! 🤡🥃💥🥊🥂🧻🚽
