I'll tell you what I don't like about Batman comics. I don't like backup stories with shitty art about Two-Face or Penguin that drive up the price of the comic by a dollar. I don't like bad artists purposefully being put on big name titles because they know it will still sell. I don't like the fact that there is no continuity between the two bat titles. Both titles should acknowledge one another and take place at the same time period. I don't like decompressed story telling that makes it so you need to read 6 or 7 issues in a row to even begin to see what they are trying to do with the story arch, I'm lookin at you Ram V! The sad truth is that the majority of writers for Batman are leftists with man buns.
My problem with Absolute Batman and Bruce Wayne not being rich. You're going to tell me that a civil engineer/construction worker is going to rough neck for 8-14 hours on a site, then go out in the middle of the night. Physically fight crime. Then show up the next day for work, on time and do it again? Also, even with an 80k a year job, pay and maintain gadgets? Yeah, no. Batman needs to be rich. Deal with it.
Exactly, making Batman a construction worker is like making Aquaman a normal merchant mariner. Sure, it's possible, but the time and physical toll just wouldn't make sense.
That was my problem when I saw the new batmobile was a dump truck converted into a kill dozer. Do the writers know how expensive a construction grade dump truck is; let alone converting it into a kill dozer. Even if you were making 200k a year it would be super expensive. So how the heck does absolute batman afford it? Did he steal the truck from a construction site? If so why doesn't the company notice it was missing? Did he borrow it? Won't they notice when he brings it back that the suspension, axels, and breaks are suddenly shot to shit? Him not having money creates more problems than solutions.
That's the thing. We are supposed to "buy" into all of that BS when technically speaking, its IMPOSSIBLE😅 The best way to explain it is Absolute Batman either creates his own weapons and tech frpm his engineering skills and resources, or most likely, he STOLE parts to make them!
@@vernonhampton5863 Something that hurts series like this is the way the writers insist on taking elements that would fit seamlessly in a science fantasy/science fiction/action fantasy story and shove them into a story they swear up and down has a real-word, down-to-earth setting. If you establish that the world in the story works differently from our world, then you can have all sorts of fantastic elements as long as they’re not implausible and they work within the world’s logic. However, if you establish that the world in the story is supposed to be a reflection of the real world and is more realistic than other stories, but then have the fantastical elements, people are going to go, “Whoa, whoa, wait a dang minute here!”
Admittedly, I started reading Batman in the bronze age (1974), but I hate most of the post-Crisis era of Batman. I miss the Darknight Detective and the Masked Manhunter of the 1970s and early '80s as seen in BATMAN, DETECTIVE COMICS, THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, and WORLD'S FINEST COMICS. Man, I'm old. 😃
I was born in the 80’s and didn’t get into comics until the 90’s, but the 70’s and 80’s era was solid. I like much of the newer stuff, but I’d like a Batman who wasn’t a grumpy curmudgeon all the time. I don’t mind it as a tendency, but he’s become a bit one-note. You can be a serious guy with some grim tendencies and crack a smile once every couple issues.
@@boringbiblestudy1813 If you can find them, the Gerry Conway stuff right before the Crisis era is dynamite. Bruce is less brooding. More of a family dynamic and there are solid mysteries and rogues stories throughout.
@ I’ve got a few from that era. I tend to buy anything in interested in when I find it under valued. They were really playing up the romance angle right before COIE with lots of Catwoman, Talia, and some other love interest, IIRC. Anyway, good stuff. And late era Brave and the Bold is pretty peak.
NO!! Batman even betray Catwoman in heart of hush, he lie selina and he don't say her that hush attack her by batman fault Hush loses his mind thanks to Batman betrayal and Paul Dini want that readers appreciate hush like in interview he said, "seeing hush an villain to level of mr freeze" Batman need REDEMPTION and after that we get real batman again (batman animated series) We don't need an stupid arrogant jerk with garystuism that make everything we need a real character that fail in everything in this days of garystuism...we need quality and respect to dc World no batman making dc World his bitches, because for that arrive hush and destroy the bat every time
I want Batman to be the rich playboy, scion of Gotham...that's the contrast within the character. Besides, those who don't like rich Batman can read Absolute....let me have the rich guy. Oh and I want the contrast of historic Wayne Mannor, steeped in history, and the high tech, latest tech Batcave.
Saying they should kill off Bruce Wayne is absolutely hilarious, since half the reason Grayson ever became Nightwing was so he WOULDN'T have to take the mantle. Why on earth would you want him to be replaced if that's the opposite of what the character is supposed to be?
If they (DC) want to kill Bruce (which is unlikely as he is their biggest cash cow and the most iconic character), then they should bring Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond and put him into current day DCU! He has more than proven worthy to take up the cowl/mantle!!!!!
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw look i understand where your coming from but I disagree. Dc should do something with Terry and earth 16 but tossing him on the main earth is not a good plan.

It would be boring now, but before they had Joker War, I had suggested it would be cool to see Batman lose his fortune and take away all his tech to see how Batman would operate without having the perfect gadget for every situation. Just a well-trained man and his wits. You could do this for a while and then watch him face challenges, successes, and setbacks to rebuilding his arsenal and support network from scratch. Eventually, he can come up with a plan to regain his fortune. Several years worth of material to mine their which has never really been covered. Tynion took the money away and then did nothing other than move him away from the manor. It didn’t affect how Batman operated which makes it meaningless.
Why is it these critics never complain about Mr. Terrific being rich? I mean, isn’t he supposed to be one of the richest and most successful businessmen in DC Comics? Why don’t they never complain about Carol Ferris being both a successful businesswoman and a nepo baby? Do they ever complain about Simon Stagg being a rich a-hole? Either being rich (as well as inheriting wealth/businesses/assets in the case of some characters) is inherently wrong or it isn’t. Also, it doesn’t help things that when a lot of people say, “Rich people should give away their money,” they mean, “They should give me their money.” Some people are selfless and genuinely think wealth distribution would help solve some problems (not saying anything for or against, but simply stating some people are sincere in their beliefs), but others talk about how the rich should help people, but then get angry when rich people donate money/resources to charity instead of donating to them personally (as if they were entitled to some random person’s resources). There was an episode of Elementary (the Sherlock Holmes show with Lucy Liu as Dr. Watson) touching on people who just want money. Batman writers: (depict Batman falling through space like a meteor) Fans: (leave because the plot is ridiculous) Batman writers: Oh, they must hate that Bruce Wayne is rich! Let’s fix that!
@@karaoconnoraliasraidra I'm a hardcore Batman stan and even I can't defend that spacediving nonsense. In regards as to why you'll never see any scrutiny directed at Terrific, Stagg or Ferris is simply because they're not as popular as Batman. Surprisingly, Lex Luthor, _the_ evil billionaire of DC, is never brought up by these journalists.
They are just selective and turn a blind to those characters you mentioned as Batman is a very prominent and popular character in superhero comics, and one of his defining features is that he is RICH
@@sovereign-of-scars4372exactly. Not only that, BUT Stagg, Carol, and especially Luthor, can get away with their criminal deeds as they are rich and can buy their way out (read:bribery!)
The same shit happens to Iron Man. Nobody complains about Black Panther being the king of a private country with the rarest resource on earth and a planet sized stack of wealth that they keep to themselves, but people constantly criticize Tony Stark, despite the fact that he creates and funds charities on a regular basis and finances the Avengers who go out to save the world and protect the innocent.
13:5613:57 I disagree with this point. Cassandra Cain was the first Batgirl to get a full ongoing series. She's like Wally West; she was THE Batgirl for a whole generation. She is a character that deserves an ongoing, not a miniseries.
The problem is that when you are intentionally trying to rebrand a character for sales or popularity purposes, you'll fail. The rebrands that work are the ones that take you by surprise and reflect the passion and vision of a genius. You can't have a company like Marvel or DC purposefully set out to do a rebrand and expect success. They will give you the result of a corporate board meeting, not a visionary new direction.
Dear TC, Grant Morrison with self-inserting himself Damian and ruin 30 years of Batman lore due to their arrogance, the American Grant Morrison, aka Tom King, cringe dialogue and Tynion‘s communism propaganda are the problem
Literalmente no estamos hablando de él ,y hay demasiados personajes irrelevantes de la batfamilia que si merecen ser iliminados; duke thomas , una que no me acuerdo y otros .
@batmanMXM yeah, I don't get the beef with Damian either. Damian Wayne and the Court of Owls are probably the last new additions to Batman lore that are actually worth keeping.
I'd say Batman's character to me completely fell off the moment DC Comics transitioned into the Rebirth Era. Now I will say that the moment Batman stopped being Batman when Grant Morrison started writing the character, as well as the early 2000 runs that hurt the character and his lore. That's why I believe that either Knightfall saga or No Man's Land were Batman's writing reached its peak. Now, I won't deny that there were some good ideas from the 2000s and New 52 era where Batman's character and writing could've been handled better, but some of DC writers time and time again kept dropping the ball.
Great job on explaining the importance of the Batman character. He's a true pop-culture icon, and I believe that he and other top-tier characters like him are worth discussing in a constructively critical way.
batman needs that same vibe that mr PJK did for superman - i am currently reading the action comics Line and I get why you like it so much wes...all the characters have room to breathe... and they work w each other ... batman needs that all his family members you don't know who the villain or the hero - half of his rouges has transitioned to anti-hero vibe... it needs consistency and a name we can trust definitely tho
@@doommega “You don’t know who’s the villain or the hero.” This is a different company, but this is why I don’t like Namor the Sub-Mariner. He’s an a-hole who has attacked heroes and threatened our world on numerous occasions, and yet Marvel keeps insisting, “Oh, he’s a hero! He’s one of the good guys!” only to have him attack innocent people or do other heinous things while clearly portraying him as the villain. I can understand characters having their own motivations and morality, but not when they change alignment so often that different editions of a character guide will list them in different categories each time. With characters like that I never know if I’m supposed to be rooting for them or rooting for somebody to kick their cans in.
I think it is that he lost his humanity. Batman TAS will always be peak for me because it wasn't about him always winning with pre emptive planning, it was about him FINDING a way to win. When batman could singlehandedly take on the entire justice league, or had a back up plan for every conceivable problem he lost something essential to his character.
He can have contingency plans, but they should be susceptible to failure. Modern Batman reads like people who have spent too much time on who would win forums but never listen to why Batman can’t best Hulk with five minutes prep time.
“~wakes up screaming and covered in sweat~” “Wait, what happened!?” “~shakes head~” “Come on, it can’t be that bad!” “I had a nightmare that Tom King was writing Captain America!” “NOOOO!”
I actually think they need to have given him some strength and flight after Absolute Power. Powers went everywhere and he shouldve gotten a bit. It would make him able to take more on. OR just give into all of his suit and gadgets l goes to next level. He invents thin plates that can withstand laser fire. But taking the money is pure stupid. The last several writers have just killed the character.
The status quo that was Batman prior to Tom King taking over for Rebirth was fine. The problem now is there are a ton of writers, but they all have the same voice. Batman shouldn’t be that hard of a character to write. As long as there is a competent writer with a great artist, it will sell really well. Scott Snyder’s run is praised, but I would argue that Capullo is what made that run as successful as it was. Snyder gets to ride that Court of Owls wave. The problem I see now is that these current writers only see the world through a narrow liberal lens. I mean that in terms of sensibilities. When is the last time Bruce came off as being a competent hero? Money is bad so he can’t be rich. He’s a terrible father. Someone with conservative values and beliefs should get a turn now. I’m not even talking in terms of politics, but when it’s been nothing but ineffectual Batman for damn near 10 years, it’s time to get someone in there who isn’t afraid to make Bruce a masculine hero, using his money to fight crime, being a good father, and ultimately allowing Batman to be Batman overall.
They don't understand the character and they don't have the fundamental understanding of crime and evil to write an anti-crime crusader. Not a shock - Marvel and DC are tanking because, in general, they don't understand superheroes. PS : It doesn't require big multi-issue arcs and crossover events, either. IMHO
Only Doug Moench tier writer can save Batman lol, I just went down memory lane and copper some late 80's and early 90 Batman and Detective Comics and maaaaan... The difference is just BLATANT between what he was doing and what Zdarsky, Tynion and Tom did. It's like 2 different leagues of writers.
My biggest problem with batman, and this can go for several other superhero comics, is that so many of their D-list villains are really just spin-offs of their more famous A & B list ones. For example: there's a character named Dr. Aesop, who does crimes based on Aesop's fables. And I'm thinking, "Why isn't this just a Mad Hatter story?"
The problems with modern Batman started with Greg Rucka. His stuff was awful, but got retconned by Jeph Loeb due to Batman Hush. Morrison has clearly not a clue about the Batman Mythos and Damian was really a bad addition, that even the New 52 Batman writers dislike. Tom King is just bad and all Williamson, Tynion and Zdarsky are also bad. I would get Paul Dini or Ed Brubaker in. These guy's are legends.
@Groudon_official Greg Rucka didn't just mess up on Batman. In my opinion, he even messed up on Wonder Woman as well because he and Gail Simone are both the main reasons why her character never stayed consistent and became a completely different character by each writer who took on the character after their runs. Leading further Wonder Woman's decline in the comics. This is why Wonder Woman's character to me ended in the 90s because Perez, Loebs, and Byrne understood the character.
Perhaps. However, (SOME) people LOVE/LIKE Damian as he provides a nice counterpoint and challenge to Bruce as usually Robin is the one who keeps Batman frpm crossing the line (i.e killing) but WITH Damian here, it's the other way around!!
A lot of people loved the line, but it annoyed me a great deal when in the Justice League movie Batfleck said "I'm rich" was his superpower. No, that's an utter misunderstanding of not only money but what Batman is about.
I don't read that many comics these days, big two or otherwise. But I wonder what would be some good villains from the indies over the last few years that would have worked as great new Batman villains. Any thoughts?
Has anyone noticed that Zdarsky is trying to channel Frank Miller with this current arc as far as his writing style? I was going to do a more in depth analysis video of it on my channel but the long and short of it is: -characters using other villains inventions to repurpose their usage similar to TDKR -Jim Gordon is having another affair similar to Batman: Year One - current political issues giving rise to riots and protests similar to TDKR -the reveal of a certain character being KGBeast just like how Zack Snyder borrowed a Frank Miller line and moment to take down KGBeast in BvS and I think Miller has made other references to KGBeast My point is this current story arc is very clearly heavily influenced by Frank Miller's work similar to how the last couple of arcs were very heavily influenced by Grant Morrison.
18:24 "My first few issues are, I think, an attempt to rationalise and reframe this element from the first pole dancing appearance of Robin to the fruity relationship between Alfred and Bruce and the weird psychosexual desire of Damian to replace the jealous Tim Drake as the object of daddy's affections. To be honest, I was quite surprised by how camp it all was and tried hard to broaden the possibilities of Batman beyond that seductive if reductive reading.“ ~ Grant Morrison
Take Batman out of Gotham for an extended period. That way he can be out of his element, have a new dynamic, and face off against new villains. Give him a reason to go to other DC locations like Bludhaven, or Opal City. Or Tokyo or London or something. It can be hard to make him work in other settings, but they need to try something different. Do a run off short stories of one, two, or three issues each with underused characters that they can re-invent. Like the Paul Dini one from after the Morrison run. Or should DC buy some characters from other dormant IPs that they can turn into interesting villains?
I’d like to see Batman actually fighting crime. Just write stories where he’s fighting crime. Use his rogue’s gallery sparingly, so that when he defeats one, and they go to Arkham or Blackgate, if you haven’t seen them in a while, you, the reader know where they are. Then… when they break out, even the break out itself becomes a story.
I strongly believe that the only people who have a problem with Batman being rich are either jealous that they'll never acquire so much wealth in their lifetime and don't want to see/write that or are just crazy and truly think that having money makes someone inherently evil. And now, because of that, we have a comic book in which Superman is lecturing Batman on the privileges stemming from being born into wealth. Truly riveting stuff. Fixing Batman might take some time, but I think the first step is relatively easy. Enough with giving Batman to writers who just want to deconstruct things or who think Batman has to answer for being who he is (straight, white, rich, man). And you know, more of the actual detecting would be nice too, like PKJ is doing right now.
Can't be helped when billionaires/millionaires tiday are the ones who are the cause of the world's problems, inequality, pollution, exploitation, etc...
If you want a good Batman detective type story go read Batman Dark Pattern. Batman 3 years in...Commission Gordon....the Bat Signal....a supremely creepy serial killer. It's good and its being overlooked right now. The rest of comments here have merit, but I don't need any new Batman villains. James Tynian did that when he took over and overloaded on new villains that nobody is now using. Ramp up the rogues gallery again. That's all you have to do. Make Bruce Wayne the shallow playboy veneer to Batman, which is what he's supposed to be in the public eye. All you have to do is go look at Denny O'Neils editing of the character over his career....there is your blueprint. And Batman readers aren't looking for new new new stuff all the time, all they want is a fucking good Batman story plain and simple. You give them that and they are happy. And yeah, Detective Comics should be the "detective" book. It's what differentiates it from Batman which can be a more super hero comic. WTF20.
@darkfenix1516 In short, Batman became crap at the start of the early 2000s. I also strongly agree that Dixon, Moench, Grant, and O'Neil had a better handle on the character than any other Batman writer.
If you reduced the scale of Batman stories and focused more on his detective skills, it would require the writer(s) to do more personal stories that would have less violence and action. That could still be good. Create an interesting triangle of tension between Bruce, Alfred, and his main accountant/agent handler. W Insert a strong female character that isn't a hero. Have Dick play a bigger part into stepping up for the often- injured Bruce. This isn't rocket science. But it can be fun and entertaining again.
I blame Tom King.Since your run Batman comics never were good again, with a bad run one after the other. The fake marriage with Catwoman and Alfred''s death did irreparable damage in the comics. No Man's Land was the latest Batman storyline that I really loved. The good stories are outside of your main books in nowadays like Batman Off-World and The First Knight limited series. They need make your secret identity matters again, everyone knows that Batman is Bruce Wayne in latest years even the Joker and please DC just stop to make Thomas a complete dirtbag. This isn't works even like a joke.
Not only that, but not REBUILDING the hero as they should, i.e, putting the toys back into the toybox as you found them and make sure they can be used for future writers
Having those expensive gadgets while being poor makes less sense than him being rich. If someone else gives him the gadgets aka fund him, that means he isn't Batman anymore. DC tried pushing Signal before the Black Batman BS. But even they seem 2 forget he exist.
I hate how the past several years of writers actively worked to get rid of the Bruce Wayne identity, the interesting supporting characters that enriched the stories, the money… everything that made the Bat-titles interesting. A book where Bruce is Batman 24/7 isn’t that interesting. And trim down the Bat-family! Too many Robin’s, too many Batgirls. At this point I’m not even hopeful for the Loeb/Lee run.
1. For the love of God, bring back Alfred to the regular Batman continuity! 2. What happened to the Court of Owls? That was the last new villain that did something different and felt perilous. Every good Batman villain challenges a particular part of his psyche. Bruce thought he knew Gotham better than anyone until he ran into the Court of Owls. 3. Batman should have a line he does not cross (the no killing thing and not using guns) when unleashing his form of justice. I am still trying to understand what that line is for Absolute Batman. 4. There should be some part of the story where it at least feels like Batman used his masterful detective skills to figure out what is going on. 5. It should often feel like Batman is 2-5 steps ahead of his foes until he goes up against something or someone unexpected that actually gives him a challenge. The fun part is seeing it play out how he resolves the challenge. And it should be something more than fisticuffs or some deus ex wonder gadget. 6. The rapport with Jim Gordon is key. 7. Good interaction with one or more of the Robins is key as well. They can support one another when needed. But I like it when Bruce feels like he needs to go at it alone for the safety of his Bat family.
Well said, Wes! Yes, DC needs to stop trying make Batman poor as it doesn't work, as shown by fan reactions and poor sales! Bring Alfred back, let him be rich again, and let everyone see👀 that there is nothing wrong with being rich when you can use that wealth to HELP the poor, besides coming up with weapons and tech that fights crime!!!!!!!!!
2:40 Wes Scott Snyder's Rebirth: All-Star Batman series was somewhat reminiscent of his Absolute Batman in that it featured Bruce employing various unconventional gadgets. Absolute Batman either makes them himself as he is an engineer and probably has BIG connections with companies all over Gotham, or most likely, he STOLE THEM!
tom king is a posser even he don't know that Solomon grundy can face Superman and in his run batman lift this zombie with one hand, too is really stupid that bane defeat entire arkham like minions when the last time even killer croc destroy him He don't know nothing about batman and dc, catwoman defeat speeders? Gotham Girl defeat captain atom that can change the universe?what? Its awful and inconsistent and all time make batman type: "Im batman, I can do everything" this kind of stories are the WORST
At this point I'm more interest in batman crossing over with TMNT or something than facing his own villains for the umpteenth time. At least there is some novelty. I have not had much interest in the main bat titles for a long long time, probably since the Court of Owls, which is now 13 years ago... what the hell
On the subject of villians. The man has been around for 80 years. You don't need a new villian. Just stop bringing back the same four and then having an antihero tell him how stupid he is and doing everything wrong. Cavalier, Signalman, random gangster. Boom the year is a fourth over and I still have 70 years of villains to draw from.
The biggest component that I think has been missing from Batman comics is the detective work. LET HIM BE A DETECTIVE AGAIN! HE'S MORE THAN JUST AN ACTION HERO! BRING BACK MYSTERIES! HE'S THE WORLD'S GREATEST DETECTIVE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
Feel like Batman writers these days don't understand that they can have the fighting happen in the dramatic climax. They need to learn to build up to it and create suspense.
You can't change the Batman archetype, you can only change the nature of the conflict and the world he is in. Specifically his role within it. Case in point - "No Man's land" story arc. A Job well done. And its simpler to do then most think even if the audience hold some irrational biases for the charatcer's capabilities - Despite being one of the smartest men in the world, you don't know what you don't know. You don't know what you don't know. You can learn, and in th case of Batman, very quickly and efficiently, but he doesn't have a direct link to the Akashic Records lol New writers today, do not know how to introduce NEW things that Batman doesn't know because they themselves have stopped learning about real world outside of their profession and Because the character has been built with plot armor to be far smarter then any of these mediocre writers could ever hope to be able to properly portray. And these new writers are not keeping up to date with modern science and tech, because Bamtan still feels analog in his development. The only way they can portray Batman's intelligence now is by writing through the perceptions of supporting characters, who are not as smart as Batman. Alan Moore was able to write a compelling Batman story (Even if he dislikes it) because unlike most of these writers, he's genuinely a smart man. And doesn't have this copium attitude of "I write for me and if others like it, great". You need a writer who is above average in intelligence to write a good Batman story, someone around the 120 IQ range looking to impress the 105 IQs..... "Is there no place in the world for a man with a 105 IQ?" But most smart writers will not work for DC based on the current pay and work conditions and corporate agendas. Someone who understand criminology. Someone who understand psychology. Someone who understand conspiracy. Someone who understand Geo-politics. Someone who understand current Corporate world. Someone who understands Civil-Politics. Someone who understand the current innovations in science and technology.... they're not writing Jubilee blowing bubble gum at an arcade in a mall. But maybe that's what Batman needs.. the mystery to return him. To become a mythological figure within his own story. To seperate him from everyone else. They've turned him Into a Day-Time-drama-Soap-Reality TV show with failed marriages and "My Dozen adopted Youth soldiers", supported by as many merchandising gimmicks they can pile on for toys. Batman's popularity only resurged with parodies provided by "HISHE" and the "Lego Movie" - "Because I'm Batman!!" Turning Bruce Wayne into "Guts" from Berserk meets "Prophet" (Image comics) is probably one of the laziests ways they could've explored this challenge and it reaks of Western Comics desperation to tap into what makes Anime/Manga popular. Anime doesn't put toys profits before story. Everyone, from the general populace of his universe to the audience know TOO MUCH about Batman. When you listen to fanfair they like little nods to Batman's mystery like in the Animated series and how C-List heroes and rookies were afraid of him not knowing a thing about him. Or his first interaction with Green Lantern in the New 52 animated movie. And that is exactly what's wrong with Wolverine too. They're house broken and have been watered down for mainstream consumer consumption regarding merchandise.
It's sad to think how far Tim has fallen. His solo sold well for a decade plus. He was the lead of young justice and titans for years. Its like ever since the 52 era, DC just keeps botching things with him.
Batman being rich is only a problem to these journalists because they don’t like rich people. Batman needs to be rich, there’s so many aspects to the character requires Bruce to be rich & famous.
The problem with writing a compelling detective story for Batman is the same problem with writing a compelling story with the Riddler as the main foil; the writer has to be smart enough and talented enough to spin such a yarn. As we’ve seen over the years, none of the current crop have the chops.
I think it’s a little wierd how you keep harping on how unrealistic it is that AB has all the toys but no $. You’re not wrong but also like is regular dcu Batman realistic? Like a regular dude just flies around this insane city fighting all these insane villains with all these insane toys and never dies or gets caught and that’s realistic? Is it more realistic if he has $? I mean I guess but the comic is not really about realism it’s more of a don’t think too much situation. I think the real question is like is the $ essential to the character? I’d say it is essential to the particular archetype that gave birth to the character. He’s a combination of the rich inventor/ genius archetype (like Tony stark) and the vigilante detective archetype (like the Shadow if you’re looking for characters that predate him)
I would like to see a Batman: Life Story style treatment, where Batman begins in 1939 as like 25 year old Batman, trains Dick Grayson as Robin during the 50s, Dick Grayson becomes Nightwing in the 60s and joins the Teen Titans, in the 70s Bruce trains up the Bat Family to be his replacements, and by the 80s he's in his Batman Beyond role mentoring the next champion to take on the role.
Scott Snyder's Rebirth: All-Star Batman series was somewhat reminiscent of his Absolute Batman in that it featured Bruce employing various unconventional gadgets. In that series, he pulled knives from the ears of his cowl, he was shooting projectiles from his chest and knuckle guards as if they were bullets, shot acid-coated blades from his gauntlets, and even carried a massive batarang blade on his back, snyder likes to give batman crazy stuff even in court of owls he gave batman a mech suit to fight talons not that i am complaining i actually love snyder's tech savy batman but prime batman having this stuff makes sense as he was rich as hell and did globe trotting to learn all sorts of skills and has vast resources but as far as i heard absolute batman is middle class, how is he pulling out this stuff?
I think everyone can agree that a lower class Batman should be more focused on martial arts than gadgets because it's much more accessible than all of Batman's cool toys. He could have gadgets but they would be on a much smaller scale than the conventional Batman. His Batmobile will probably be a normal car painted black and stuff like that.
DC doesn't even need to create new villains for Batman, they can build on existing characters. Take Prometheus for example: If DC did him right he would be their equivalent of Mark Millar's Nemesis. Or Cluemaster to give Stephanie Brown so more development. Or Jim Gordon Jr. to bring Jim Sr. back and involve Oracle. Or Lady and/or David Cain for Orphan. They could also bring Azrael back and build up the Order of St. Dumas, because we know almost next to nothing about them. I do know there's some bad blood between the Order and the League of Assassins. DC could make an event where there's a threeway stuggle in Gotham between the League of Assassins, the Court of Owls and the Order of St. Dumas. This next bit is about DC as a whole: how has there never been a company-spanning event with Trigon? I know DC loves sucking off Darkseid, but Trigon has conquered hundreds if not thousands of galaxies and whole universes, you can do so much with him. You could have stories of Green Lanterns dealing with Trigonic cults and demons across the universe. Stories of Apokolips and New Genesis partnering up for the sole purpose stopping the spread of Trigon's influence. Stories of Trigon fully taking over Hell and gaining full ownership of John Constantine's soul and turning him into an unwilling antagonist. With the Hell thing, you could have Bloodwynd, Neron, Merlin and Etrigan/Jason Blood lending a rebel alliance in Hell against Trigon. Also with the Lanterns, you could have Trigon enslave the emotional entities of Rage, Greed and Fear and have his demons not only using those power rings but also possessing all the weilders of those rings.
And by the way I am sorry but if you think as a writer every idea you have is worth a multi-million dollar movie you are kidding yourself. The Rob Liefeld's of the world are far and few. Same with thinking your kick starter or creator owned book is going to match sales of a Batman or Spider-Man as an example. STILL it is in the best interest of the companies to compensate those who make you big time money. It's good for everyone, company and creator. But as history of the industry shows that, for whatever damn reason, the attitudes of upper management, owners, whomever have a big problem seeing it that way. WTF20.
Simple. Billionaires/millionaires are seen as the real source of evil because of their vast wealth that makes untouchable as well as unaccountabke as they can, literally l, buy their way (read: bribe!) out of any accusations or jail time
According to the Marxist Paulo Freire, one of the most cited authors in the liberal arts, once the revolution is the status quo it is now right wing and must be revolted against. When you hear a leftist talking about the status quo, they’re essentially saying that it’s right wing and therefore evil. Paulo Freire wrote books on pedagogy, the theory of education, and his work has utterly infested the American education system. He solved the Marxist problem of replication by insisting that no matter what subject you’re teaching you use it as a mechanism to teach Marxism. At this point in history his work has been used to teach a generation of educators. Not just professors, but K through 12. People complaining about “the status quo”, are using his language and we’re most likely educated by Marxist professors.
Critics: "Batman's RlCH.. That's what's wrong with the character". "Spider-Man Fans: "Peter Parker's Been Cryin' BROKE For 60 Years!! .. That's what's wrong with the character!!
I had trouble with the latest Detective Comics issue. Bruce falling into bed with Joe Chill's daughter, who he knew since she was born? Okay so someone you know grows a pair? Allowing her to i ject him with a mysterious serum? You kbow she is the serial killer evidence or not. Falling in bed with Selina in a vulenerable state sure, but your parent's killer's daughter who bears your mother's name?🤢
It's DC Comics' fault for writing Batman (Bruce Wayne) like a Marty Stu. He has no super-human powers, so he is essentially still just a normal, ordinary human being. But despite that technicality, he still has all of the special abilities, all of the fighting skills, all of the highly powerful technology, and all of the extremely advanced weaponry. Once they made him like that, there was no turning him back into just Sherlock Holmes wearing a vampire bat-like costume. He had to be the man who was always the smartest, always the strongest, and always the most handsome. Batman can have brains, brawn and looks, but he shouldn't be the guy who despite not being a super-human being, can beat anyone human or super-human, in a fight. Batman should be a wealthy businessman who is a multi-billionaire playboy and industrialist tycoon who is is secretly an excellent detective, a ferocious fighter, and a phenomenal acrobat. That's it. The rest should be people who have vast knowledge, experience and expertise in various intellectual areas that he pays a large sum of money for their services. He should not be a person who has genius in all areas of scientific pursuit nor should he be a person who has mastered virtually every form of armed and unarmed combat ever devised. That is the problem. It strains credibility and insults the reader's intelligence. If they would just stop portraying Batman in such an absurd way, maybe the readers of his comic book would stop expecting so much bad bullshit in the writing.
Alas, there is NO going back for Batman now that this is how people think of when you mention what Batman is to them. As for the early portrayal of Batman as you stated earlier, we might get that in TEN YEAR'S time once he enters the PUBLIC DOMAIN.
Bruh, DC literally stuck with Batman stories where time passing measurement it's "HOW MANY ROBINS AGO IT WAS?" and 3 Robins it's already 2 Robins too far, Nightwing - as leader of TT, Red Hood - as longlostson "Bucky", RobinDamian - as League Assassins grandson bloodline successor... wish he used only sword to have some theme. DC needs to explore and evolve outside of BATMAN, because prick fans if all focus goes on Batman starting to cry "Why it's not corny 50-s" "Why it's not grounded realistic?" "Why we can't have Dyke+Batwing focus" "Why we can't go Batman Beyond" "Why Tim can't be openly gay and sleep around" ... thus why Snyderverse fans dislike other Batman type fans. DC has so much other cool characters, but nah woke agenda and selfish Batman fans wanting to choke out anything that unique, Creeper, Vixen, Steel show would be cool - what if man in the suit tries to take on Superman's role while Superman is absent, Red Lantern corps to sniff out fake Green ones, WildCATS without woke censorship Grifter and VooDoo alone would made book/tv-show, GEN13 teen team. But nah, we stuck with freaking BAT's, Penguins and fartacular jokarbaby or jokarSApowerbottom after GAGA used him. At this point just to piss off Boomer/Zoomer crowd, i wish Superman and Wonder Woman had a daughter "Trinity" that after being trained by Batman... would reject this name, and be Alexa whip wielding sexy babe in Bat shaped suit aka "SuperWoman"
I think it says something about Nightwing, that you have to kill Batman to give him some spotlight. How about letting sidecharacters stay as sidecharacters? I'm sorry, but Dick has never been that guy to me and will never be. If Dc finally kills Bruce wayne, then the mantle of the Bat should die with him. I have no interest in watching all these useless characters(Robins and Batfamily) scramble for the mantle of a dead man that they constantly insulted as being insane and obsessed. It was Bruce's obsession that made Batman what it is today. Just to have some useless character piggyback of his efforts while also portraying them as heroic for running around as a bat but somehow Bruce was just insane. Also, surrounding Batman with all these characters that need Bruce to have mental illness so that their existence can be justified. Like ALL the robins does not do any good to Batman. You can't have it both ways. You can't say that Batman needs a Robin because he is insane and then be surprised when they show Batman as insane without one.
Stop writting him like Iron Man, get rid of thise whole Bat-Family (no one cares), make him a detective, draw him closer to Kelley Jones/Norm Brefogle (a shape) and embrace the fact he's a corporate p.o.s that beats up weirdos and mental health patients in Gotham rather than being some type of international man of mystery. He's an arseole stuck in the 70's walking about Wayne Manor, hairy chest, James Bonding the ladies. He's an escape fantasy out of time. A blues song even, just play the same three chords.
A lot of opinions in this comments section - many I do not agree with. I do, however, agree with this video. There's nothing wrong with Batman being rich. There will always be rich and poor - whatever the situation, do the best with what you've been given, and be thankful for what you've got - whether that's a lot or a little. The important things are the same for everyone, anyway: doing right by the people around you. As far as Batman comics - I think Snyder's run was MOSTLY good, but I don't like some of his later story arcs, and I'm just not a huge fan of the New52. The Court of Owls saga is a 'modern' classic, though. I don't hate Morrison's run - I think he takes the idea of Batman being able to 'prepare for anything' to the Nth degree, but there are some memorable stories during his run - Batman and Son feels like a classic Batman story. The Black Glove with all the alternate Batmen on the island was fun. Batman Inc had some good ideas. Morrison was clearly very familiar with the Batman mythos. Batman really started to decline around the time Tom King took over - and not even during his first arc about the Gotham superheroes - that was a pretty good story. But there came a time when you could tell King was getting high off sniffing his own farts. I don't care for Zdarsky's run. Or Tynion's run. Tomasi had a few good things - so, again, it hasn't been all bad. But the doing-away-with-wealth thing is 100% cringe, and I reject it completely. it's funny you mention Bane - just reread the Vengeance of Bane comic the other day, about his origin. That is so good. Bane was a great foil for Batman. I think the villain from Batman and Robin - the first one from Born to Kill - was pretty solid. Basically, a Batman that murders, with Damien's soul in the balance. That was a solid story with a solid Batman - not a bad run considering it was New52

The sad truth is that the majority of writers for Batman are leftists with man buns.
that damn ram V Lol
NOW he is writing The New God's, which, by the way, is a fantastic cosmic epic read!
You're crazy those back ups totally went with the story he was telling lol
We are supposed to "buy" into all of that BS when technically speaking, its IMPOSSIBLE😅
The best way to explain it is Absolute Batman either creates his own weapons and tech frpm his engineering skills and resources, or most likely, he STOLE parts to make them!
@@PettyCrow-n9cexactly. It all falls apart/breaks suspensjon of disbelief😅
God, I miss having Batman solve a mystery. Paul Dini’s brief run may be the last time I remember that.

I’ve got a few from that era. I tend to buy anything in interested in when I find it under valued. They were really playing up the romance angle right before COIE with lots of Catwoman, Talia, and some other love interest, IIRC.
Anyway, good stuff.
And late era Brave and the Bold is pretty peak.
Batman getting married to Catwoman with dead Alfred was actually a new fresh idea and they dropped it.
Both were very bad ideas that ruined the comics until in nowadays.
NO!! Batman even betray Catwoman in heart of hush, he lie selina and he don't say her that hush attack her by batman fault
Hush loses his mind thanks to Batman betrayal and Paul Dini want that readers appreciate hush like in interview he said, "seeing hush an villain to level of mr freeze"

Me too. That's the image of Batman when I think of or see him
Saying they should kill off Bruce Wayne is absolutely hilarious, since half the reason Grayson ever became Nightwing was so he WOULDN'T have to take the mantle.

Batman writers: (depict Batman falling through space like a meteor)
Fans: (leave because the plot is ridiculous)

If those rich characters donated their money to poor white people living in the sticks, you know SJWs would be fucking pissed.
13:56 13:57 I disagree with this point.
Plus, Morrison is a degenerate.
La gente tiene un problema demasiado grande con demian .

Me too. BTAS to me is the real, definitive Batman and not the current we have right now

“Come on, it can’t be that bad!”

Bruce litterly pressed a button and sent money to charity made Bartbra look like an complete idiot during that horrible Batgirl run.
Tienes toda la razón amigo.
Unfortunately, there is no such writer who can do that for Batman right now!
Hay muchos escritore a fuera solo que dc es flojo literalmente, pueden llamar un mangaka para que les haga un buen comic y no quieren .
THIS
They don't understand the character and they don't have the fundamental understanding of crime and evil to write an anti-crime crusader.
To be fair, people do like Damian and William got some good stories out of the character.
La gente que más odia a damian lo meten en cada tema por dios jaja

@@brandonscott4808agreed. However, Simone's take on WW was great
A lot of people loved the line, but it annoyed me a great deal when in the Justice League movie Batfleck said "I'm rich" was his superpower. No, that's an utter misunderstanding of not only money but what Batman is about.
Or the whole "Bruce Wayne is the MASK"!
I was going to do a more in depth analysis video of it on my channel but the long and short of it is:
-characters using other villains inventions to repurpose their usage similar to TDKR
-Jim Gordon is having another affair similar to Batman: Year One
- current political issues giving rise to riots and protests similar to TDKR
-the reveal of a certain character being KGBeast just like how Zack Snyder borrowed a Frank Miller line and moment to take down KGBeast in BvS and I think Miller has made other references to KGBeast
My point is this current story arc is very clearly heavily influenced by Frank Miller's work similar to how the last couple of arcs were very heavily influenced by Grant Morrison.

Wes said it.

Retcon everything since Batman Hush and just act nothng happend. Problem solved.
Not a good fix. A lot of what's been added (the Court Of Owls, Damian, Jason becoming Red Hood) has been great and widely accepted by fans.
@@devanbarrios9216 I agree a lot of good stuff came after Hush but everything after the New 52 can get retconned and I wouldn't care.

WTF20.
Batman went to shit during war games and batman murderer turn fugitive. Dixon Moench Grant and O'Neil were the peak of the character.
Best Batman writers!
@darkfenix1516 In short, Batman became crap at the start of the early 2000s. I also strongly agree that Dixon, Moench, Grant, and O'Neil had a better handle on the character than any other Batman writer.
Nah, Scott Snyder's run was absolutely GREAT. and there is no great run ever since!
If you reduced the scale of Batman stories and focused more on his detective skills, it would require the writer(s) to do more personal stories that would have less violence and action. That could still be good. Create an interesting triangle of tension between Bruce, Alfred, and his main accountant/agent handler. W
Insert a strong female character that isn't a hero. Have Dick play a bigger part into stepping up for the often- injured Bruce. This isn't rocket science. But it can be fun and entertaining again.
Read a chip zdarsky indie book. Was no joke the gayest thing ive ever read lol
How is The Killing Joke an elseworlds book if we got Barbara Gordon as The Oracle in the main series from that story?
It got retconned into main continuity because it was very popular at the time
I blame Tom King.Since your run Batman comics never were good again, with a bad run one after the other.
The only thing holding Batman back are the writers.
The Hush sequal needs to bring back Alfred. Loeb may be very old, by God he writes some of the best bat stories of all time.
"Dick Smorgasbord" was not a phrase I expected to hear in a video about Batman; unless Nightwing decides to quit crime fighting and become a Caterer.
The problem is that lately they are too obsessed with deconstructing the character and making it "realistic" that the sense of fun is lost.
It’s like they’re trying to outdo Frank Miller.
Not only that, but not REBUILDING the hero as they should, i.e, putting the toys back into the toybox as you found them and make sure they can be used for future writers
@@amead78you mean ALAN MOORE. He was the one who did the de-construction of heroes with "Watchmen"!
Batman realista nunca funciono y sólo está arruinando el atractivo del personaje.
That's true. DC keeps leaning into the whole "Bruce Wayne is the MASK. Batman is his TRUE self"! circa Batman begins movie
Absolute Batmna don't kills but is more brutal with no qualms about maiming your foes.
Well said👍. Yes, if only...
@@EvandroACruzit's about sending the message that he doesn't mess around nor will he go easy on you
Well said, Wes!
Absolute Batman either makes them himself as he is an engineer and probably has BIG connections with companies all over Gotham, or most likely, he STOLE THEM!
We need another Tom King event. A Cat & Bat & Joker City Knight War, if you will. That will make Batman comics relevant.
tom king is a posser even he don't know that Solomon grundy can face Superman and in his run batman lift this zombie with one hand, too is really stupid that bane defeat entire arkham like minions when the last time even killer croc destroy him
He don't know nothing about batman and dc, catwoman defeat speeders? Gotham Girl defeat captain atom that can change the universe?what? Its awful and inconsistent and all time make batman type: "Im batman, I can do everything" this kind of stories are the WORST
I hope you do a breakdown of Taylor's detective comics 3 issues in. It's very weird.
At this point I'm more interest in batman crossing over with TMNT or something than facing his own villains for the umpteenth time. At least there is some novelty. I have not had much interest in the main bat titles for a long long time, probably since the Court of Owls, which is now 13 years ago... what the hell
They've already had non-rich Batman. It was called MacGyver.
But they won't do that! They want him to be this hyper-competent, brodding loner
You can learn, and in th case of Batman, very quickly and efficiently, but he doesn't have a direct link to the Akashic Records lol
New writers today, do not know how to introduce NEW things that Batman doesn't know because they themselves have stopped learning about real world outside of their profession and Because the character has been built with plot armor to be far smarter then any of these mediocre writers could ever hope to be able to properly portray.
Batman's popularity only resurged with parodies provided by "HISHE" and the "Lego Movie" - "Because I'm Batman!!"
Turning Bruce Wayne into "Guts" from Berserk meets "Prophet" (Image comics) is probably one of the laziests ways they could've explored this challenge and it reaks of Western Comics desperation to tap into what makes Anime/Manga popular.
Its like ever since the 52 era, DC just keeps botching things with him.
batman will lose his mind without money
poor batman is the poor man's depowered superman, figuratively and literally.
Batman being rich is only a problem to these journalists because they don’t like rich people. Batman needs to be rich, there’s so many aspects to the character requires Bruce to be rich & famous.
I agree that DC needs to up the royalties, but I also think DC needs to push for more creativity than just "now the character is gay".
This is good but remember also that Life Story was Chip Zdarsky lol
@TheMinskyTerrorist Yes I hear you on that, but I just meant a story in that style, not Zdarsky himself writing.
Didn't John Byrne do that with Generations?
Not happening. DC is going with the sliding timescale. Plus their continuity is ALL out of whack

Batman broke but still has all the cool stuff that comes with money? Absolute Batman is Dumb.
Yeah, he has technically more access than some real life billionaires.

Exactly. It strains disbelief and breaks all credulity
@@Maab134he either made them himself or STOLE them
I think everyone can agree that a lower class Batman should be more focused on martial arts than gadgets because it's much more accessible than all of Batman's cool toys.
Didn't Oliver kill prometheus?

Yes. But they won't do that!
WTF20.
Playboy businessman by day, crime fighter by night. How hard of a concept is that? Why is having wealth being associated with being evil?
Simple. Billionaires/millionaires are seen as the real source of evil because of their vast wealth that makes untouchable as well as unaccountabke as they can, literally l, buy their way (read: bribe!) out of any accusations or jail time
I disagree. Zdarsky’s Batman run is atrocious.
Batman has been rich since the character’s inception, if you can’t make it work now when so many could, you just suck as a creator.
Exactly. Thats what makes him BATMAN!!!!
Take away his wealth and he's not Batman anymore as that is an INTRINSIC apart of him and his lore
Cut back on the batman books. There are too many mini and regular series. Plus spin off characters.
@ 18:07 is hilarious

It won't be good, but it'll be funny.
In batman and robin momento has nothing to do with gotham city he target different city but he is in gotham to take revenge on batman
wait, when did Killing Joke become Elseworlds? how does that even make sense when Barbara became Oracle cause of getting paralyzed from Killing Joke
It didn't. It became canon after it became popular and sold gang busters at the time
According to the Marxist Paulo Freire, one of the most cited authors in the liberal arts, once the revolution is the status quo it is now right wing and must be revolted against.

Preach my friend! There is soooooooo much the writers could work with and just don't. 😔
He was doing that to get close to her and to put in a hacking pen drive into her personal computer
Give the character back to Frank Miller. Problem solved.
I wish metrpolis was considered a character like gotham
I refuse to believe we’ve actually run out of story’s to tell with Batman
We haven't. The problem is bad writers.
There’s no end to the stories that can be told, it’s endless. What we’ve run out of is good writers to tell those stories.
You know that will never happen because it's BATMAN!!!
Bruce… still doesn’t have his BILLIONS back.
He has 3 billion thanks to Zur en Arr but that's it.
The 80 billion has been gone since joker war.
Wrong. Zdarsky gave him SOME money back. Just not as rich as before joker war
Shit. I forgot about that. I stand corrected.
Sorry but i believe Batman Barbarian was cancelled
That was a solid story with a solid Batman - not a bad run considering it was New52
The guy is trying to pitch himself as the next Batman writer, that’s all.
The comics community would be 100x better if we could remove the guy who wrote this article & peeps like him. It would immediately improve.
