I feel sorry for Peter Parker, I grew up reading his adventures, loved the comics. The quality of stories and treatment of the character should be better, something has been missing for a long time.
As a kid decades ago, the way I got to know Spiderman is that he is the average guy trying to get his job done with the power (as Spiderman) to his name to do so and the responsibility for his actions while trying to help others. Of course, this includes trying to keep his identity a secret to keep his beloved ones safe, which causes challenging conflicts between his everday goals and the responsibilities as Spiderman. A proper Spiderman story, to me, has him going through all that and once stakes are set and overcome (make it a proper story for 10 or 15 years of run time with a consistent creator team) he should be marrying MJ and step down at the end. Maybe he could lose his powers naturally, or whatever else. And that is when Miles can continue. This endless loop of Peter being a loser and permanently stuck as Spiderman, nothing seems to move anywhere, is what made me stop to buy any of the comics for a long time.
Stan Lee's 2/3rds rule. Two parts superhero action, one part family or other life/action. The rule of comics I live by. And that's why USM and ASM don't work with me.
I enjoyed this video. I agree that it's about time Peter had a job he maintains for a while. There's a responsibility to having a job. Maybe Peter needs a responsible job, like a fireman or a paramedic, he'd certainly get a lot of satisfaction from it.
Hey remember when Joe Kelly wrote a story where Kraven’s family murdered tons of people to resurrect him and in the end Spider-Man let them go because he was afraid he might kill them, as if THAT was more important bringing a group of vile murderers to Justice? DeadpoolNegative Remembers.
Spider-Man would have a fantastic career as a TH-cam creator. Every day streaming a couple of hours of him on patrol would give him millions of followers. He could still turn off the camera when he had to deal with a sensitive situation, and could even tell his audience something like, "Sorry, guys. I have to get this kid home. Camera off."
The thing the separates Spider-Man from other heroes like Batman and Superman is that having a quality Peter Parker is intrinsic to having the Spider-man parts be believable, whereas you don’t necessarily need to get Clark or Bruce right for a good story. Essentially, Spider-Man is Peter’s mask while Clark is Superman’s mask and Bruce is Batman’s.
Marvel should give you residuals. I had given up on ASM but you guys were so passionate about the character that I have a little hope and will probably check in again
I don't really understand the optimism here, Kelly is already on the book and it's barely better. "MJ" is still ruined and needs massive retcons. We're still going to waste time with Shay and Peter is still unemployed and incompetent. Like it'll be better than Wells because it basically has to be, but that's a low bar. D comics instead of Fs.
Just make him a founder of a struggling tech startup that deals with either news or superheroes. It’s not that hard . He takes advantage of his intellect, but he’s still an underdog with people depending on him and finding him unreliable
J. Michael Straczynski's run was what Spider-Man is supposed to be, until higher ups started touching it. Peter has the love of his life, Aunt May knows about his double life, he's respected by all other heroes, he has a job he loves and that fits him. Peter had become an adult.
An absolute nonsense, with boring self-contained stories, fifth-rate villains, and reimagining the entire origin of the character with something that has nothing to do with it, like magic, just because the old man can't write another kind of characters. Delivering one of the worst-received stages. If that must have been? hahaha
I like that there's an understanding of what makes Spider-Man tick and his role in the Marvel universe. What I hate is that there's a character in the comic itself that's actually saying it. I hate it when comics get so meta as to spell out the tropes in the pages, it ruins the immersion and the suspension of disbelief, and I blame Grant Morrison for starting that trend.
Cap probably had to kill back in World War II on occasion. If Spidey ever started killing his foes, Cap would be the first one to toss him out of the Avengers... but Cap might also be the first one to slip up and follow Spidey's bad example, too.
Peter Parker should have a regular job somewhere where his smarts should be utilized, and able to act as Spider-Man… dude had a company at one time and demonstrated he’s one of the smartest people around. Some job at a tech company ( another start up? ) Peter can keep the same supporting casts that don’t look at him as an individual as wasted talent..
I dont know about 616, but spider should struggle with issues. I don't think spiderman would ruin the whole world. But him going bad would be way worse then red hood, then have knock on effect fucking up other heros who aren't the gruff ones.
I’d bet they don’t change his plight despite the gripes, makes a little sense to have a yin and yang; also there’s a long-standing human tradition that skinny guys are always next in line for being the butt of jokes.
I think Spider-Man can only get better from here on, because it can’t really get much worse. Well, it could be worse, there’s still X-Men comics currently being published. So it’s better to be a Spider-Man fan than an X-Men fan.
@@SlitheringpeanutI thought no one could write a comic more contemptuous of its readers time than Brian Michael Bendis’ Avengers. And then Jason Aaron proved me wrong.

Maybe Peter could become in an artistic Photographer and sell his pictures. that way he don't have an on clock job and still make good money. that is a face of his character than they didn't explore more. he could become a succesfull artist
He could sell a formula based on his webbing to serve as medical glue to be used in case of emergencies : They are currently studying spider silk for tissue repair in biomedical.
Problem is I don’t think it’s really sold in the Marvel Universe that other Heroes look up to Pete like that. Also I don’t think Marvel heroes are really big on not killing like DC. Marvel doesn’t do Spider Wank nearly as much as DC Does Bat Wank. I very much don’t want that level of wank in Marvel. The last time we really felt Peter as the Moral Center was Bendis Ultimate Spider-Man.
The only way to make Marvel listen to fans is to stop buying Spider-man comics. That includes Ultimate. Until Marvel gets it's bloody act together, fans needs to boycott all Spider-man products until further notice.
Sometimes you both sound clueless. They were never trying to show a “lovable loser” , they were intentionally portraying Peter as a pathetic loser who wasn’t even good at being a superhero anymore. You guys keep whining in videos. You saw how they destroyed Spider-Man😮for the last couple of years yet here you are waiting for the next disappointment. Don’t you get it? Both big companies are in the process of demeaning the concept of the superhero.
Spider-Man reads more like the Tick since issue 800. JR JR's art is bad, he only spends 5 seconds scribbling each page. I was happy to see Kamala Khan die, but she only stayed dead for a month. Spider-Man can go toe to toe with Heralds of Galactus, but Tombstone beat up Spider-Man??? Venom War took place in a WWE ring, that was just dumb. There is so much wrong with Spider-Man right now.
Hey here's a crazy idea have Peter parker and Mary jane get remarried again and have their daughter mayday Parker aka Spider-girl and Benji parker alive and kicking and be a family, and finally exist in the main marvel universe and stop doing bad stories nobody wants to read and just have Peter parker Spider-Man be happy and functional adult and who doesn't lose a job or be a loser nobody want to read 24/7 that's just how you make a good Spider-Man comic that's not hot garbage in my opinion. Also one more thing have editorial back the F off and stop having these freaking morons like Nick lowe who's ruining everything with Spider-Man Peter parker and his supporting cast and get rid of stupid jackpot mary jane which has failed badly in my opinion.
@@armandoat01 except that logic is wrong because ultimate spider-man the new one and spider-girl mayday parker series proves both series were sales success and weren't a sales drop.
abit of a stretch to equate him as the moral center of marvel. and re what dok said about peter being younger...it always rubbed me the wrong way that when u stop and think about it spider man was essentially a teen committing elder abuse fighting villains who were geriatrics
You mean Ultimate 'MJ who is married to Peter' cuz that book has NO Spider-Man in it. If you like slice of life stuff, more power to you. But for me, his marriage/romance should be the LEAST important thing of a SPIDER-MAN book. Stan Lee's 2/3 rule. 2/3 of a comic run should be Superhero Action, the other 1/3 can be his family life. USM has nothing of Spider-Man, he's had 3-4 fights in 12 issues and he MAY have won one. I say MAY because the bad guys got away, but the crime was stopped.
Sorry, but no. Kelly is just there as an "yes man" to Lowe, like Wells before him. I don't expecting anything less but more torture for Peter and the support cast for the sake of the eidtorial's OMD/BND dogma ...
Not sure, but we had decent runs with Spidey, haven‘t followed for ages, dropped out when the dreadful Gwen and Norman bomb dropped, but peaked in once in a while. In short, stick to the basics, the average bloke being able to overcome seemingly impossible odds, and please stop making him an idiot who needs female support to tie his shoes. This is not Spidey.
I would like that very much. Let Spider-Man and especially Peter Parker succeed. I don’t even need him necessarily to be with MJ. Could give him a new girlfriend who doesn’t treat him like garbage.
Had to stop listening when he said Larraz is a "clone" of Immonen. What a stupid take. Show me how he's a clone. They have totally distinct styles. This guy is an idiot when it comes to artists.
They are saying that Spider-Man, to be in "glory," should be both a hero and in his private life, the center of the universe, the representation of excellence itself and an example of idealized life. Friend, honestly, it's you who doesn't understand Spider-Man. Spider-Man is the mask, the superficial image of the character who has to pretend that everything is fine, but behind him is the person, who suffers, who has problems, who acts and lives like a real person. Making it "perfect" in both facets or elevating it to almost "perfect" makes it flat. Also, they act as if it's wrong for characters like that to exist, when in the same real life there are similar cases. What Marvel does are human characters, not cardboard heroes.
If new writers and readers who say they're fans of Spider-Man and love to see him being treated like crap, then they're not real fans.
It’s less about him being broke or “having problems”. Steve Ditko said it best. I’m paraphrasing but he essentially said; a hero is less defined by their struggles than their ability to overcome them. Spider-Man is less

That's a good idea actually!
Clark is not the mask! Superman is the mask. You just don't get Superman dude
Until they bring back the marriage, I don’t care who writes it. I’m not coming back.
Awesome discussion. At this point in Peter's life as a character we need to see some progression.
Marvel should give you residuals. I had given up on ASM but you guys were so passionate about the character that I have a little hope and will probably check in again
MASGA.
That Spidey that ended Kraven is from Earth-312500.
Deadpool: I keep telling Pete he worries too much. ^%$! everything and have FUN!
Indeed!
JMS was awful, ruined the books and create the wrost arcs of Spider-mna in your history. Terrible writer.
@@EvandroACruzidk, there’s some parts of his run was ok (his characterizations of the people) but I didn’t like some of his ideas like spider totems.
@@EvandroACruzHow exactly?
Spider-man has killed before. He accidentally killed a woman when he was fighting wolverine. He punched her so hard that she died.
Thanks, Priest!
I’ve not been a spider-man fan, but I actually might give one a shot.
Just stick with the classic Spider-man. Pick up the Lee/Ditko run or the Roger Stern run.
@@tayojones9460will do. I hear the JMS stuff is good. True?
As long as Dick Blowe is editor this book is going to suck no matter who writes it
I dont know about 616, but spider should struggle with issues.
Oh ye of little faith. Yes, it can STILL get worse. It can always get worse.
To be an X-Men fan is truly an insight on how far one's masochistic tendencies can go.
To be an X-Men fan is truly an insight on how far one's masochistic tendencies can go.
@@SlitheringpeanutI thought no one could write a comic more contemptuous of its readers time than Brian Michael Bendis’ Avengers. And then Jason Aaron proved me wrong.
There is no fixing this. There is no fixing anything. It's time to just let him go and move on.
i gave up on mainstream comics years ago and just buy collected editions of my favourite runs, Spider-Man is getting simped again and again and for what, so new readers can learn how to simp, nah...
Ultimate Spider-Man is where it's at😅
They need to bring back Spider Man:2099😅
Maybe Peter could become in an artistic Photographer and sell his pictures. that way he don't have an on clock job and still make good money. that is a face of his character than they didn't explore more. he could become a succesfull artist
Believe me, Hawkeye had a strong no-killing rule even more that Batman.
@ I am talking more in the present. But sure classically killing was more frowned upon in comics
Don't get my hopes up please.
I already resigned myself to the reboot, that its going to suck.
Spot on!
Ok let's see ! these days mainstream keep sticking us w their forks when we let the guard down ... and dok is so calm in this episode.... hmmm LOL
Also one more thing have editorial back the F off and stop having these freaking morons like Nick lowe who's ruining everything with Spider-Man Peter parker and his supporting cast and get rid of stupid jackpot mary jane which has failed badly in my opinion.
that has already been done and it was a total poqueria and disaster that caused the character's biggest sales drop. So don't say nonsense.
@@armandoat01 except that logic is wrong because ultimate spider-man the new one and spider-girl mayday parker series proves both series were sales success and weren't a sales drop.
No offense but please, learn how to use punctuation
@@Ihavethetouchwhatever
@@TevyaSmolkaToo much to ask for basic linguistic skill?
abit of a stretch to equate him as the moral center of marvel. and re what dok said about peter being younger...it always rubbed me the wrong way that when u stop and think about it spider man was essentially a teen committing elder abuse fighting villains who were geriatrics
ASM is dead long live Ultimate Spiderman
You mean the original right? (First 50 issues with Bendis Bagley Thibert was killer. Hickman USM is filler.)
@@Slitheringpeanutusm is more popular than asm, just proves fans dont want anything but happy slice of life now
Sorry, but no.
MJ when written right doesnt treat him like garbage
Had to stop listening when he said Larraz is a "clone" of Immonen. What a stupid take. Show me how he's a clone. They have totally distinct styles. This guy is an idiot when it comes to artists.
MASMGA, that's a movement I can join.
Please explain this to Nick Lowe
