This is kind of a long analogy, but bear with me: There was a panel in 1984's "Secret Wars" series in which Reed Richards was working on Iron Man's armor (or something) and had to remove the suit's arm for repairs. At the time, Rhodey was wearing the suit as it was when Tony had fallen off the wagon and reverted to alcoholism. While Reed is busying himself, Rhodey asks "Did it surprise you that there's a black man in the armor?" to which, Reed flatly replies, "Well...no...I never really gave it much thought." If that same scene were to play out today, it would be ALL about there being a black man in the armor, Rhodey would have to get praised for being so amazing and Reed would have to apologize for his white privilege.
@@pauldareason Reed never noticing proves he is not a racist. Which makes any apology doubly absurd. ISTM that racism (as it is called) consists in three things: 1) noticing that someone is different in a way that results from their ethnicity; and 2) judging that ethnically-related difference to be bad; & 3) demeaning that person because of that difference. Steve Rogers was privileged, that's laughable. He was born in 1918 which means he grew up during the Great Depression. His father died during World War 1. He had to watch his mother die of TB. He was a small sickly boy and always bullied. That's just his childhood before he fought in World War 2 and became Captain America. The people writing this crap need to check their privilege.
Steve Rodgers lived through the Great Depression, that is a level of poverty that few people today can understand. I was told stories about my Grandmother and her Sisters (who had been recently Orphaned) being separated amongst various family members because no one family could take in all 5 kids. My Grandmother had to start working at 13 with her Aunt as a telephone operator to put food on the table. That is the kind of situation that Marvel comics are calling "Privileged". It's just all so tiresome.
Everything that's happened to Steve, from getting frozen and woken up decades later losing everyone he knew, getting killed and returning, getting turned into a Nazi by a hatemonger(wtiter,) losing his unborn child to Sin, being stripped of his title and having to reclaim it, losing Bucky, wishing him back alive and then having to help him undo the Hydra brainwashing, all this, but Falcon had it worse just because he was black 🙄. This is just like MCU She hulk laying into Hulk for being catcalled, which rarely if ever happened to her since she wasn't all that, but his abuse snd loss and agony mesnt nothing. Dwayne McDuffie used to talk about how impactful The Falcon was on him as a young black superhero comic fan. That's because The Falcon was the only black superhero at the time who didn't have Black as part of his name. The Falcon was so popular that the book went from Captain America to Captain America and The Falcon back in 1971. Why take the identity away of The Falcon? He doesn't need to be Captain America to be relevant. Just leave The Falcon alone. Let him continue to be his own man because that was pretty damn good for 50 years.

Tired of them trying to suppress Steve Rodgers. Can Steve Rodgers be awesome again? The Cap and Falcon issues from the 70’s are my favorite. Cap and Falcon had different views back then but the book was great because there was differences and they worked together to overcome evil together.
What a way to keep racism alive. Why would anyone support books like this!? And there are so many out there trying to push this agenda, maybe I’m in the wrong hobby.
I do not like crap like this. I'm a black comic book reader. I have been for decades. The only way you can have an arrangement like this is if you did it on purpose. Marvel superheroes do not behave like this. This is completely out of character.
The big reason Falcon Cap will never work for me is simply because Falcon was already his own character with a long history behind him. It would be like making Nightcrawler the new Wolverine. They’re taking an old very distinctive character and changing him into something completely different. It will never work.
Why did the editors let this pass? We know darn well if this was the other demographic of people, folks would be screeching. This junk is not okay. They are heros who help and represent anyone who can relate. Skintone does not matter. This is irritating.
They should make a comic book where it turns out Wade Wilson's ancestors were masters of Sam Wilson's family, so Sam guilt trips Wade about it and Wade realizes he is privileged. Then Wade goes to another segregated BBQ with Sam. It will be great.
@JamesPoe-tr1tm yes, I should. I am also going to make Sam Wilson Captain Canada in this story ark after learning his ancestory. Might ditch the falcon wings and make him ride a robot horse like a mounty, or something like that; I'm not sure, but I think the fans will love it.
I’m taking the tact that Marvel now is hot garbage and I’m fine with collecting old back issues of when comics were great. I encourage Marvel to keep destroying themselves and losing money hand over fist with this crap.
As racist as white liberals can possibly be. Trust me, despite them holding themselves up as the best of all people, it can get pretty damn bad. They hate and pretend not to, while they call actually tolerant people racist.
To me Bucky made sense as the new Captain America because it was a way to try and redeem himself from his Sins as a brainwashed assassin under Russia as the Winter Soldier and it would honor his best friend & partner Steve during the death of Captain America and to be a hero again fighting against modern day villains & Hydra. Plus he looked cool as hell wearing the Cap suit Tony made for him. Such a badass design.
Whenever DC and Marvel try to do stuff like this, insuating that their black characters share the same opinions, grievances, and get along perfectly - just know it's nothing short of La La Land fantasy. This sort of thing only happens with family, and ESPECIALLY not with ALL coworkers. This is painfully forced and racist. Let the roles be reversed where Steeve is the one inviting Sam to a (just as unrealistic) white BBQ and have them all openly celebrate the founding fathers while speaking about the good ole days of their lives. It'll get called a comic for Not-sees.
Wait, Steve Rogers, who grew up poor on the streets of Brooklyn in the 30's and 40's is more privileged than middle class black superheroes in 2025? LMAO! 🤣🤣🤣 That makes zero damn sense.
Yikes, im glad you are reading this stuff for us Wes...what are they doing with these books? I haven't been a regular reader since 1996____ but I love checking out all my comic Brethen online to see what is the latest with marvel/dc.....well thanks for taking one for the team 📚
How old is The Boy's comic? Segregation of Black Supes into black only teams was a bit on how Corporate viewed race. A lampoon, a parody, full on satire. Marvel current day serious, oof!?
It’s surreal to have the creator of the fucking BARRACUDA to think he has any standing to lecture the corporations who sign his checks on their handling of race.
Considering Marvels only real successes lately have been from the Chinese making sexy characters again and a “Ok” Deadpool movie. It’s crazy that they still refuse to just give up the activist garbage.
Have to agree, the notion that the cookout happened was...I'd hesitate to call it outright racist because I'm not black, but it was really weird. As if all these heroes just hang out because they have the same skin color. They come from wildly different backgrounds.
This started during Reginald Hudlin’s embarrassingly hacky Black Panther run, where he’d have all the other black superheroes show up to talk about how awesome T’Challa is. Wanna know how bad that run was? Coates sold better.
You have every right to call it racist. I'm black and think it's racist. It's asinine garbage that isn't based in reality, just a twisted fantasy land.
Remember when Falcon Cap & Nova beat the Wrecking Crew? Hard to not feel dead inside about the character with displays like that. That's just 1 example.
Can someone tell these writers that these kind of stories don't work when you don't hire talented writers. Seriously I would not trust these writers to write an step for step guide on how to cross an street.
Marvel, just STOP IT!....The reason a Black Captain America does not work is too easy - and you said it: Sam Wilson is not Steve Rogers. I love The Falcon since I was a kid and never imagined that Captain America would be other than Steve Rogers. Why doesn't Marvel realize that they can't just do a "black" Captain America because comics fans love Captain America for the reason I mentioned. Steve Rogers has a history of why he became Captain America and the reason he was injected with the Super Soldier Serum. Steve was patriotic - not that Sam is not but nobody can truly be Captain America unless they are STEVE ROGERS. Marvel: Just create another superhero similar to Captain America but a black American. Maybe Major American, a black man that perhaps has a similar back story as Steve Rogers did...wanted to enlist in the Army but was rejected due to some other reason than just being bones!...I am sure you guys at Marvel have enough CREATIVITY to create something NEW or? Or were Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and the rest of the comics creators that came later and contributed to Marvel Comics' universe were the only ones with CREATIVITY? I think not. CREATE something NEW without suing RACISM as a theme! I have and it's called the AGL COMICS SUPREMEHUMANS UNIVERSE! Coming soon...
I noticed that the co-writer for this issue was Evan Narcisse, who wrote the Rise of the Black Panther series and the Polygon exit interview with Captain America writer Ta-Nehisi Coates where Coates got all indignant about how Ed Brubaker hasn’t been properly compensated for the Winter Soldier Narcisse didn’t ask him to elaborate further, just moved on to the next question . Now we know why. (Not that I’ve ever felt much pity for Brubaker; if you wrote the introduction to Hicksville and you still work for the big two you deserve what you get)
I never have been and never will be against Sam taking up the Cap mantle. What I am against is them using Sam as Cap to push for more racial political stories instead of letting him lean on his own skills and strengths rather than bring up his race. I’ve read better Sam Cap stories. This is just sad.
I liked Sam like Captain America in the past but this comic sucked so much. Not all Marvel black superheroes are close friends. In the past Luke Cage fought against Black Goliath because his wife for example. The barbecue sence remember how Krakoa era was all about mutant segregation and mutant eugenics too and destroyed all the lore of the team.Greg Pak don't write a single good comic since Planet Hulk and in this comic isn't good too. I don't have interest in a comic book made for promote the new Captain America movie.
Falcon has always been a proponent for nonviolent activism; this was part of his character since the later Stan Lee run in 1971. But you’d be amazed how differently it was handled. Cap concedes when he’s wrong about something, but also pushes back when there’s hate directed at him just because he’s white. They don’t agree on everything because of their different backgrounds, but still maintain a strong partnership. There was no point where the writer comes out and says “this side is right and this side is wrong.”
All you need to know it's that the writer worked for Gawker media, it's the same place Marvel get Charlie Jane Anders. Nothing good ever comes out out that trash heap. This entire book feels like it would be more at home at DC comics in the 1970s. Fitting because modern day Marvel has become Silver age DC. So bring on the Crisis so we can get this over with.
Funny how blade is at a barbeque while vampires are feeding on homeless people. I also noticed cloak was there. Isn't he supposed to always be with dagger to assuage his darkness? The way alk of them are also in costume. Imagine going to a black bbq with a suit of armor stacked with heavy weapons
This is a Reminder that Steve Rogers the Once and Future Captain America will become Public Domain in *11 YEARS* From now. Why do I bring this up? Oh...no reason.
Thanks for this review, Wes. You're still pretty much the same guy you were when I started watching your videos around 2018 or 2019. I had a friend tell me to check out Richard Meyer's recent community posts. When I think about where everyone is standing/ what they're talking about now versus back in 2017/ 2018, it makes me think about Ben Affleck's line from Batman v. Superman, "20 years in Gotham, Alfred. We've seen what promises are worth. How many good guys are left? How many stayed that way?" You're still a regular guy giving your honest opinions about what you like or don't like and why. You're not excommunicating anyone or "culling" your audience. You've remained fair, I'm glad that you're still here and that you stayed that way 🖖
Honestly, this is why the only Falcon I like and is The best representation of the character is the Superhero Squad Show Falcon! He's cool, fun, and truly shows off his caring heroic side while entertaining the audience! Hell, That Falcon even has his own adventures that get brought in conversation sometimes. The Comics may failed Falcon but The Superhero Squad show didn't 🥹🫡❤️
This is what the American Democrats want. They hated that they lost in 1865. Everything they've done has been to go back to those days. And remember, Hollywood (Which 99% Democrat) took over Comics 2009.
Yet another character the modern writers and editors at Marvel don't understand. Even worse, they took a perfectly good character in his own right and kind of glommed him onto the Captain America identity. Falcon spells out perfectly why he shouldn't be Captain America when Bucky becomes Cap instead during Ed Brubaker's run. Everyone at Marvel since then has completely ignored that and we get saddled with this idiocy instead. As for actual Cap, how someone who grew up during the Depression and literally saw men blown to pieces during WW2 could be described as "privileged" is just so f'in insulting it's unreal. The privilege of modern day writers and editors who've struggled for nothing in their cosy air conditioned apartments whilst picking up regular pay checks.

That cookout is so childish. It definitely feels like a small child came up with this. Blade goes to cookouts and Marvel sucks and Blows.
Segregation. How progressive.
Sadly, such people think it is.
Krakoa era was all about segregation and mutant eugenics.
Why did the editors let this pass? We know darn well if this was the other demographic of people, folks would be screeching. This junk is not okay. They are heros who help and represent anyone who can relate. Skintone does not matter. This is irritating.
Why is Cloak there without Dagger? Isn't that dangerous?
Not more dangerous than showing up with a white girl🤣
She’s in the car out front 🤣
They should make a comic book where it turns out Wade Wilson's ancestors were masters of Sam Wilson's family, so Sam guilt trips Wade about it and Wade realizes he is privileged. Then Wade goes to another segregated BBQ with Sam. It will be great.
"Hey Sam, I wanna give you some reparations...so here's a burrito. It's all I can afford right now."
Dude you need to write for Marvel. NOW. This is the ideas they want.
@jbarb9987 give him an electric car. He can make a whole speech about the environment with Greta Thunderbird Thunberg.
@JamesPoe-tr1tm in the speech he has to say something like "you need to do better Canada", people love when Sam Wilson uses the catchphrase
I’m taking the tact that Marvel now is hot garbage and I’m fine with collecting old back issues of when comics were great. I encourage Marvel to keep destroying themselves and losing money hand over fist with this crap.
How racist can Marvel get?
As racist as white liberals can possibly be. Trust me, despite them holding themselves up as the best of all people, it can get pretty damn bad. They hate and pretend not to, while they call actually tolerant people racist.
This is incredible! I cannot believe that this type of terrible storytelling is being allowed! Marvel Comics has been ruined.
The only other Captain America that worked for me is Bucky crazily enough
To me Bucky made sense as the new Captain America because it was a way to try and redeem himself from his Sins as a brainwashed assassin under Russia as the Winter Soldier and it would honor his best friend & partner Steve during the death of Captain America and to be a hero again fighting against modern day villains & Hydra. Plus he looked cool as hell wearing the Cap suit Tony made for him. Such a badass design.
Steve Rogers: Give me back my shield.
Wow marvel is really dropping the basketball 🏀 these days
I hope 1 day Marvel is embarrassed by these type comics lol 🤣
Wait, Steve Rogers, who grew up poor on the streets of Brooklyn in the 30's and 40's is more privileged than middle class black superheroes in 2025? LMAO! 🤣🤣🤣 That makes zero damn sense.
The way Captain Falcoln dresses somehow manages to be the least awful thing about the character, despite everyone involved's best efforts.
Just make him captain wakanda at this point
This is hell
👈 "You gotta do better, Thinking Critical. You need to step up." That'll always cement Sam's legacy now that he's cosplaying as Capt. America.
Marvel is Gone
As far as I'm concerned it died In 2005 with that illuminati nstorylinenand when Wanda said "no more mutants"
This comic book book is only showing that they think Killmonger did nothing wrong and that Scott Adams was right.
@DeadpoolNegative I remember Hudlin's run. That was just before I stopped reading comics for about a decade lol
You have every right to call it racist. I'm black and think it's racist. It's asinine garbage that isn't based in reality, just a twisted fantasy land.
Captain Social Justice
Remember when Falcon Cap & Nova beat the Wrecking Crew? Hard to not feel dead inside about the character with displays like that. That's just 1 example.
The storyline didn’t flow. There was no humor or charm to the characters. I will not be purchasing anymore issues.
- a Black American.
Can someone tell these writers that these kind of stories don't work when you don't hire talented writers. Seriously I would not trust these writers to write an step for step guide on how to cross an street.
Greg Pak IS a talented writer.
You think think this team can surpass in terribleness Jackson and Lanzing? I don't think that is possible.
the worst part of the comic the description reads an epic confrontation between the sam and the red hulk, it's only like a 1 or 2 panels
I’m sure the movie has a bunch of shit like this too
Why does Steve look black too in that panel where he’s saluting Elijah Bradley?
I feel bad for anyone of the BASE who keeps marvel Afloat…For Now!!
I think its well past time to just admit Falcon was not a gripping character, and Captain Falcon is just lame.
Sam Wilson is Sam Wilson.
Damn miles morales he lives with both his parents and they have a real good marriage
Marvel needs to reset it's timeline to post Hickman's Secret Wars
We fans got Falcon Punched.
Two weeks and already contemplating worst of 2025, this is going to be a great year for the direct market.
I don't believe that this is the writer's fault. I think it's Marvels's fault to push this kind of propaganda
I keep telling people it's Disney's fault they're behind all the agendas being pushed & ruining our Comics!😡
Its both their fault
All of them are complicit. Terrible book.
Marvel Editors are pure garbage!!!
that pic i saw when the guys are in a party im like.... don't expect much here
Sadly to show that they are with it writers will engage in negative and racist stereotypes without realizing it.
Superman,
"20 years in Gotham, Alfred. We've seen what promises are worth. How many good guys are left? How many stayed that way?"
You're still a regular guy giving your honest opinions about what you like or don't like and why. You're not excommunicating anyone or "culling" your audience.
You've remained fair, I'm glad that you're still here and that you stayed that way 🖖
Does the barbecue have fried chicken and watermelon?
It's especially funny when they try to compare Winter Soldier with Falcon or whoever else, because Bucky was literally a slave for decades
Captain African American
Its Captain Falcon the lame edition
I know this is turmoil and trouble... but I have hope that there is a good Sam-Cap story out there🤞🏾
Honestly, this is why the only Falcon I like and is The best representation of the character is the Superhero Squad Show Falcon! He's cool, fun, and truly shows off his caring heroic side while entertaining the audience! Hell, That Falcon even has his own adventures that get brought in conversation sometimes. The Comics may failed Falcon but The Superhero Squad show didn't 🥹🫡❤️
You know that Marvel will have gone overboard when they have T'Challa lecturing Steve Rogers on having white privilege.
This is what the American Democrats want. They hated that they lost in 1865. Everything they've done has been to go back to those days. And remember, Hollywood (Which 99% Democrat) took over Comics 2009.
its sad that geg pak isn't allowed to write good stories about captain falcon....American falcon? you know what I mean
You need to do better, Senator Wes!
THAT COMIC BOOK NEED TO STAY IN THERE LANE AND FALLBACK.
That Sunday BBQ always hits different when you're the only white boy.
I guess y'all ain't never been to the south. 🤷🏼♂️
