I really appreciate you documenting all of this. I'm your daughter's age and I have a 2010 Yaris that I'm looking to do the same upgrades to but I'm going to be tackling it all by myself. My own father has never been present enough in my life to help me with these kinds of things so I'm grateful for TH-cam and the internet showing me how.

I love love love my 2008 Yaris hatchback. My coworkers laughed at me for buying it but not when gas went up to $4.00 a gallon. Now people seem to want them lol 😂. Short of it getting totaled I will keep mine forever! BEST car ever! No problems at all. It’s a great little car!

Damn man, that was a lot of work you put in, especially the wire configuration without the Toyota stereo harness. Good info in regards to that bezel/fascia piece. Those integrated radio's are a real pain. I just ordered the same one for $20 and i'll be replacing the stereo in my wife's 2010 yaris. Thanks again for the useful information.

Yeah they sell a "Metra" branded harness adapter for Toyota 1987 and later vehicles that works for the Yaris. You plug in 2 of the plugs to the adapter, one of the factory plugs remains unused. From there you just match up the colors, it makes installation super easy. I did all the wiring inside my house and then just went to the car and plugged it in. I would recommend it highly and its usually under $20. You can also leave the stock Toyota harness untouched in case you want to change out the stereo at some point in the future or revert it back to factory spec.
There is a factory ground with some light brown wires on the lower left when you take out the stereo. You can run the ground from the new stereo harness to that with a ring terminal. Remove the 10mm bolt, add the ground ring terminal and reinstall the bolt. It's better to run the ground straight to a ground rather than use the harness ground when possible. The harness ground will work if you don't want to go through the extra steps however. Good video.

Thanks, yeah if I did this again I'd definitely use a pre fabbed harness. Makes this an easier job for sure.

Thanks! I have a 2010 Yaris and I can't stand the radio it came with and the CD player is no longer working. I'll have to find a radio with a CD player, but I do want the backup camera as well. And that bezel piece is what I'm looking for! Thank you for your challenging job in a cold environment.

Different radios and backup cameras connect differently. On mine, the camera needed to be connected to the hot wire from the brake light in order to power up the camera and that same hot wire also had to be connected to the radio to turn on the back up camera display on the radio.
