    My symptoms was the car stalling when coming to a stop at a traffic light and hesitation of the engine at a slight throttle at steady speed. At idle the RPM was around 500. Following the steps in this video restored the idle to around 1000 RPM.
    Thank you very much for this video!

    My 2007 yaris had bad engine shaking for like 3 years.. it would rattle the entire car, and at 230,000 miles I just figured it was father time on the engine. No check engine light or codes til this past year and it was p0505. Car still ran, but smog service was due with registration this time so I had to figure it out. I was going to start with the PCV Valve and Throttle body clean, then MAF sensor cleaning. Turns out it was the Throttle body, because after I cleaned it, the code went away and the car does NOT shake one once. Feels like a new car now after dealing with bad engine shakes for years.

    Part of my routine servicing for the past few years has included cleaning throttle body and pcv valve, scanning ecu for any odd readings especially fuel trims, all while the oil is draining. Cleaning pcv valve has helped along the way to solving a few silly problems. Mostly easy stuff to do.

      Add to that clean battery terminals and electrical connectors, particularly those pesky corroded ground connectors/cables. And you're welcome to the world of mostly trouble free and cheap vehicle usage. ;-)

  • @CouchMan88

    I recently got a 07 Yaris that had a slight vibration at idle which was worse under electrical load. I suspected a dirty throttle body as everything else looked fine. Disconnected the battery to do a stereo install and on the first start it stumbled and died. Then the second start it ran but the idle was really low and a lot of vibration. Idle was terrible but it drove great. I cleaned the throttle body and it didn't seem that dirty but idle was way higher after cleaning but smooth. I had to reset the ecu by unplugging the battery to get the car to relearn proper idle by doing the idle relearn procedure, basically just let the car idle for 5 minutes with all accessories off. After that it sits right where it should at about 650 rpm in drive.
    I didn't know about not moving the electronic throttle by hand but I did unplug it while cleaning it. I used one of those plastic panel clip removers to hold it open while I cleaned it.
    I was gentle with it I didn't jam or pry on it just slowly moved by hand. Since I had it unplugged I don't think I damaged it. There was two times afterward when driving the car cold pulling out from being parked and just barely touching the gas pedal the acceleration was jerky until I gave it more gas but other than that its been smooth. So I think you can get away with moving the butterfly by hand with the battery or throttle power disconnected but I wouldn't do it that way again. It idles much smoother now however that definitely fixed that issue. This weekend I'm doing a new pcv valve also just to be safe. Good video with good info, thanks.

    My engine light went on, rough idle, then battery dead, did battery torke test, mechNic said it should run at 14, I'm not sure, was told it was regulator in alternator. Without it being looked at. Is this same problem.
    I bang on the alternator and the battery light goes off and we carry on. My Toyota is 15 years old and has 340,000k on it. It makes sense that this cleaning needs to be done. Thank you.
    We did change the alternator, and now engine light still stays on, even after I cleared the computer...3 times. I'm worried this indicator will force fuel through at high speed and fill my spark plugs . Does this make sense to you.

    13,3V it seems to low for charging voltage. But, in this case, it may be because battery is empty and absorbs a lot of current and alternator can not provide enough at idle...
    Accelerate a little and thr Voltage should stay beetwen 13.9 and 14.2 V

    2007 Yaris with 226,000 miles original owner. First let me say good video. I change my oil, oil filter and air filter every 5,000 miles. I have always had the rough idle come and go. It especially happens when the seasons change and gas supplies change their formulation. I would pull the battery terminal to reset the computer to take care of the issue. Lately I found it easier to plug into the diagnostics port and reset. Recently also had the battery light flicker, then go to normal when good and warm. Diagnostics showed the voltage at 16-17 volts! way too high, should be about 14 when running, voltage regulator? Possibly. No error code but I did diagnostics reset anyways, even though no error code was thrown, immediately vehicle returned to no warning lights and correct voltage condition. Go figure. I'm going with software settings corruption theory for now.

I'm dealing with low rpms, the engine make some weird noise and inside the car you can actually see the passenger seat shaking a little bit. Sometime it's so low and loud that it seems like the engine could turn off at any moment. It'll go away as soon as you push down the gas pedal. I'll definitely check the throttle body. Do you think it's better to check and eventually clean the MAF sensor too while having the hood open?

      No a dirty throttle body will not cause lack of power. For that you need to run some tests to find out whether you have an sensor that's reporting incorrectly, or an intake/exhaust restriction. Or a timing issue

      @@wesselbeukes5999 Hi, the problem was the air intake exhaust. I did change the fuse air sensor that goes in the exhaust and the car performance is now super.

    So to clean it. You need to keep the key on ignition?

    • @SuperMarioDiagnostics
      @SuperMarioDiagnostics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can either keep key off and manually move it, or key on with the pedal fully depressed

    The issue I found for mine was the belt was creating too much friction and it wasnt allowing my car to run, sprayed a little silicon on it to find out that was it, it had the same exact symptoms as this just no scan data

    • @SuperMarioDiagnostics
      @SuperMarioDiagnostics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A belt alone cannot cause enough of a load on an engine that it would almost stall it. I suspect there may be something that's belt driven that is binding

      Fix itself? Men and other animals can "fix itself" a lot of things, like broken bones, etc. Machines simply can't do that, at least for the time being.
      Definitely get a second opinion...

    Is it not worth removing the throttle body to clean it properly

    • @SuperMarioDiagnostics
      @SuperMarioDiagnostics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can't clean it properly without removing it, then go right ahead. Just don't forget to change that gasket.
      But really, it's not that hard to clean it thoroughly without removing it

    Turn the engine off and place a heavy weight on the accelerator. This opens the butterfly valve and you can then clean it.

    Excellent video. Well done. I’m gonna clean my throttle body this weekend in my 07 yaris. Mine is not shaking but has a “miss” every few seconds only at idle. That’s the only symptom. I think I will do the induction service also. Do you have a video on induction service. I’m also gonna do my wife’s 2013 civic. It’s having some symptoms at idle also and this dirty throttle body could be the culprit. Thanks again

    • @SuperMarioDiagnostics
      @SuperMarioDiagnostics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry i do not have a video on that. Sounds like you have an ignition related misfire

    • @blakethesnake1555
      @blakethesnake1555 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Follow up: this worked. However i also cleaned maf sensor and unhooked my battery (reset any computer issues). The throttle body was dirty / the maf sensor was very dirty. I’m not sure exactly which one was the culprit. But the combination fixed my intermittent “ miss” at idle on a 07 yaris. I never had the massive shake at idle. Just a small miss every few seconds. But sometimes felt like it might stall for a split second. Also no check engine. No battery light. Thanks again for the excellent video
