Has Facebook's Latest Change Killed The Need For Targeting? Here's What You Need to Know

  • In this video you'll learn what to do now that Facebook detailed targeting expansion mandatory for Conversion campaigns. You'll find out what this means for advertisers, and the best approach moving forward.
    Detailed targeting expansion and Lookalike expansion both allow Facebook to show your ads to audiences outside your chosen interests and lookalike audiences. But is that a good thing? Does it actually improve performance?
    Up until now detailed targeting expansion has been optional. We've always had the ability to turn it off if we want. Now Facebook are making it mandatory for select campaign objectives, and the conversion objective is one of those.
    Whenever you create a new conversion campaign, you'll be forced to use detailed targeting expansion and/or lookalike expansion. As always, this is rolling out gradually to ad accounts, so depending on when you watch this it may not be mandatory for you just yet. If not, it will be soon though.

    Thanks so much Andrew, Facebook ads is crazy nowadays due to the latest change in their detailed targeting expansion. Do you still recommend bundling different interests together into one asset and just let it run?

      And if you don't, and your using CBO isn't this exactly the same as bundling into one after adset by letting the AI do all the work?

      Hey Zach, I still bundle them together. Fewer ad sets means more conversions per ad set, which gives FB more data that it can use to optimise performance. Also, James is on the money re. using CBO as well.

      @@AndrewHubbard1 ​ Hey Andrew, based on CBO being algorithm based then would you check individual CTRs of equal adset budget before combining the better-performing ones into a CBO? or does it not matter? Considering the data the algorithm isn't necessarily getting the data it used to?Andrew Hubbard

    I cant see my facebook page audience insight, it states need 100 like to show data, but my page already got150 like, but appear no data

      I don't think they'll be dead, but I do think costs are going to keep rising which will drive a lot of smaller businesses away. Interested to hear your thoughts on it too?
