Steve had the most technically perfect voice in rock bands. Perfect pitch is awesome. There was nothing to autotune even if we'd had autotune then. People have tried and there wasn't anything to autotune.
Personally, even things that could have been autotuned on any of the singers back then would have destroyed what made the music great....the emotion and personality.
Couldn't agree more. All these people now days try to sing like him but they will never be able to copy such a talented and naturally angelic voice like Steve Perry.
@@mamag612 I saw this tour & have been a fan since "Touchin' Lovin' Squeezin' (I was a Kid not even a Teen!) and I remember how the Rock & Roll Media hated Steve's voice at the time! They used to call him "The Duck" as in he sounded like "Daffy Duck"!
Autotune would have absolutely ruined Perry's unique timbre...

You're right about the sound quality. People back then demanded Excellence from their vocalist and musicians. Rehearsals were long hard and brought to a level of perfection. Ask anyone who ever worked for Luther Vandross, James Brown, or even the great dr. Mattie Moss Clark. They will tell you these people were beasts when it came to rehearsals and getting it right. That's why we got such Top Notch music from these artists because they didn't settle for mediocre only for greatness
True! Like Zeppelin live. Journey is like Zeppelin when it comes to showing their talent "out" of the studio. As a matter of fact, they both sounded better live than in the studio in my opinion.
Fun fact: guitarist Neal Schon originally played for Carlos Santana. And he is indeed imo a GOAT.
I read Neal was 15 or 16 when he signed on with Santana, he's that great with playing guitar.

Journey was my very first concert I ever went to back in the '80s. And it was as good as you thought it would be.
True story:
My husband was actually at this show at The Summit in Houston in high school. We didn’t know each other yet. My parents were very strict and didn’t let teenage me go to concerts. When Michael heard I missed this iconic show? He bought the Blu Ray and “took me to the show” 30+ years later in our living room! 🤣
I remember hearing this for the first time when it came out, thinking wow! this one is perfect! It boggles the mind that was 40 years ago.
On holiday in miami Beach from England. Song came on the juke box...couldn't get off my stool fast enough to find out who this was...still adore this to this day utter brilliance xx

Steve is king to me. Listen to the entire Escape album. He's the reason I wanted to start singing rock at age 10. After listening to that album, I was changed. Listening to him taught me the vibrato technique. He's an awesome, talented man, but most of all a good man. Will love him forever! ❤ 🎶

Not many groups can sound as clear and concise live as they did from the studio...not easy to do but Journey did it.

Exactly what you said the solo guitarist is singing it's own music. It's awesome those are my fav parts when it comes to journey but also the singer has an amazing voice it all fits perfectly. When I was a teen back in 05 being 15 my stepdad played this loud almost every weekend I hated it at first but now as an adult I'm so glad I got to hear some of the greatest music in the rock history
