- The saga of my schoolhouse door restoration continues! AND WE HAVE DRYWALL!!!
Thanks to the folks at Up Paint for sending me a gallon of paint and primer to test on these doors. Check out their site to see more on how they recycle paint! uppaint.com/
Also- on the drywall, (!!!) such a big thanks to Colin, George, Hugo and their crew from Robert D. Young Construction who have been meticulous about the framing and install for this part of the project. Putting drywall up in a 100 year old building is super quirky and they’ve just been rolling with it and solving problems as they come up.

I found out recently why most door hardware was made of brass - apparently brass is anti-bacterial so it was a good choice for something that got handled by many hands in a day....this is great stuff you're showing us! thanx for letting us watch your journey...
Right? Her journey is so exciting to see.
Wow good to know
Yes I found that out last year, and now they sell us anti-bacterial coated door knobs when brass is naturally anti-bacterial❤
One has to admire your commitment, talent, and tenacity. Kudos to you and yours!
We renovated a church that was originally a “sportsman’s club” into our home of 28 years. Best thing we ever did. It is OURS and everything we did was exactly what we wanted. No rush to make bulk decisions. And we lived in it for a couple of years before big renovations to see how we wanted to use the space. Thanks for sharing!
We bought a 1901 bank building in our little Iowa town 2 years ago. We’ve been slowing renovating it for a café and store, and we rent out suite apartments upstairs on Airbnb. So I’ve been REALLY enjoying your videos! Keep them coming! ❤
Banks, fire houses, churches and schools!! I love hearing (and seeing) all the quirky houses!
The doors are just amazing
thank you!! It's been a .... process. haha
I just love them
Looking Good, Keep up the Good work !!!
Thankful to see something old having new life breathed into it,instead of tearing it down for something new.... Looking for more...
Lookin fantastic so far!!
For any of your Canadian viewers: we also have recycled paint and it's great stuff! Loop from Niagara Falls is sold in Giant Tiger stores. $22/can vs $50/can new, is a no brainer when doing a big project!
Can't wait for your next update!!
This project inspires me in so many ways. the only thing missing is more videos and longer videos, but I do know what it’s like to try and get things done only while the kids are sleeping. Hats off to you for doing it!
How exciting to see the Sheetrock going in. That’s when you can really see the rooms.
❤🎉😊 Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos and for taking us along on this wonderful journey. I am beyond thrilled for you and your family and extended family. What a blessing this home will be to all of you. ❤
Incredible sister!! Wow!! 2 years and going strong. You are blessed with your skills which led you to this new chapter in life to have the ability to take on such a deserving project. One of a kind, that's for sure!! You have me hooked, reno's are my heart. Fantastic update! God bless
I can’t imagine the satisfaction when removing the layers of paint to expose the beauty of the wood of the doors. Everything you do brings to me-since I’m sitting here with my coffee, not getting dirt under my fingernails, such satisfaction. Yet, you get to experience the newness of the history. Thanks so much for sharing the journey.
I don't think that I've ever seen this much talent and skill in one video. Well Done!!
Love the work being down to this beloved school! Can’t wait for recess!
I live a couple miles away from this awesome building and have admired it for years.
So happy your renovation is going well.
I absolutely love watching videos of old buildings with so much history are bing saved. I often think how many children have ran through that building going to class. What life must have been like back in those days. I can't wait to see how it look when you our finished.
Can't wait to see the finished product 🎉
I love your journey....all the quirky that speaks to a DIYer and repurposer! Congratulations on the progress. Those brick walls, high ceilings, grand windows and doors are dreamy. Blessings!
Those doors are stunning. You’ve done an incredible job.
Well done, you!! 😊👍 Excellent job on the doors and seeing drywall going up Finally gives you a feeling of seeing it all come to life.
With 21 doors to work on, I'll bet you got really good at it 😊😊😊
The doors are amazing! Can't wait for another video!
This has got to be one of the most exciting things I have ever seen. Such an ambitious undertaking. You guys are going to have a very beautiful and unique home when you are finished. So much done already. I have been following from Indianapolis and am definitely a big fan. 🤗💕🤗💕🤗💕
Wow! The skills you have had to learn!! What amazing results from all that hard work!! 👏 👏👏👏
That door project is pretty incredible given what you started with and where you ended. Given everything the school has been through before you got it, it's astounding that the OG doors were still there, let alone pretty much still looked like doors! Granted, it's taken a very long time to bring them back to life, and a boatload of effort, but being able to have them in your house is pretty incredible.
The other part that's fantastic about your vids is the appreciation you voice to your crew for all their hard work and effort to create the home you envision for yourselves. Good trades peeps are very hard to come by these days. You're very lucky to have found such incredibly skills ones to make this happen.
It's so fun to see a new vid posted!! Thanks for continuing to share this journey!!!
You know this house will be special when even the doors have a story behind them. ❤
Lots of sweat , dust & love went into your doors✨💕
Just bought a gallon of recycled primer-gonna finish my storage room!
Ah yay!! Hope you like it as much as I did!
Love your updates and can’t wait for the next one. Love how you always thank and highlight the craftspeople doing the various jobs. The interior brick work looks just amazing! 👍
I get so excited when I see an update appear. I just love this so much. Well done to you guys 👏👏👏🏡🏫❤
Your labor of love will be so worth it! Keep up all the great work & thanks for sharing along the way🏠
OMG girl you are brave! I would have looked at that school and said " awe that's too bad " and never thought of it again but you and your family had a vision and it was awesome so with hard work and blood sweat and tears you've come this far. WOW!!!! :)
I clicked so fast we I seen "upcycle paint" it's something so many people don't know about some recycling centers are open to the public they'll have paint and cleaning products (some half bottles but it's free) some even sale landscaping materials (ours does mulch) I know another that does recycled glass sand.
I didn't know about these either!! Also there are carpet recycling places I just learned about!
We don’t have anything like these recycling places in my area
Wow! Working on the doors was a huge challenge, how amazingly satisfying to see them completed!!
Watching you use water to rinse the stripper on the bare wood brings me joy because AYK if it is solid hardwood the water doesn’t harm it! I really love old things, especially solid old hardwood! Especially 1800s and before Heart Pine. So, of course, I am subscribing to your channel. Now I get to binge watch to see your home all transform! Congrats! B~}
I stripped three doors seven layers down to the mahogany wood. They came out of an old 1910 house in San Francisco. Thy look beautiful in our home . There on roller with gliders. You’re doing a great job.
Great progress. I can actually see you guys living there 'soon'. Lifting the ceilings up makes such a difference in each room.
Amazing how much you’re getting done! Love seeing the doors back to their former glory! Absolutely beautiful!! Also, incredible transformation on the brass! Thanks for sharing! Blessings 🙏🏻🌸
I absolutely love what you’ve done to this schoolhouse!! Can’t wait for more updates!!
Just discovered your channel! Your door restoration is magical! You use the same techniques my husband uses in his refinishing work. You “painted” the wood grain just like my husband does. You also have great taste in tool kits! My husband has the Festool system and he swears by it! He calls his restoration work “art that disappears.” I’m subscribed now. I wanna see the finished product!
I have a family of 7, and we live just south of you near Columbus, and its always been my dream to do exactly what youre doing! So excuse me as I live vicariously through you! ❤ All the love and good vibes sent to you and this beautiful project!
Each of those doors was a labor of love. They look beautiful!!! Thanks for taking us to class in your home project.
I enjoy watching your home come together. I’m excited for all of you when you are finally done. Can’t wait to see it all done. Well done by the way on those doors - absolutely stunning 😊
How nice! You're coloring outside the lines on school doors!
Wow. I just found this channel. This is going to be amazing when it’s done. Can’t wait to see it
How exciting!!! Love seeing the process with the doors and yes, drywall really makes a space begin to feel like an actual room. Good things ahead!
So grateful to watch all your progress. You guys are doing such a fab job.
Good morning to you all
Very fun to watch this plan unfold
Surprisingly fascinating!
How exciting. I just found your channel. A lot of hard work but so worth it.
I can’t wait to see your finished home.
I look forward to and love watching your video's more than you could know. Your doors.. wow. So impressed with your hard work to keep and revive them! I agree with that wood putty. When we bought a house, it had really bad wood damage to the inside, doors, molding, outside deck etc from major large dog gnawing. It truly WAS magic! You have done a beautiful job! Can't wait until the next update! Hopefully it's a long one 😁
Great work on the doors! Truly a work of art!
Very cool project to take on. Im very impressed with the progress and look forward to future video updates. Im a huge fan of classic architecture and happy to see this building being preserved. What a cool idea of turning this gem into a home!
That festool vac and sander… fancy 😍
The doors are stunning. Well done on all the stripping and sanding. Shame the painted doors couldn't be stained like the others but at least you saved them
I love how the more you restore, the treasures you find.
So glad to see y'all's progress i know you all been so busy sure was so nice can't wait to see next chapter.🤓🏠
I’m always so excited to see an update! Keep them coming. 👍🏼❤️
I can't wait for the next video. I love watching your progress. Keep at it!❤
Absolutely PHENOMENAL! Such hard work and beautiful results!! Thank you for sharing!
BTDT! Never that quantity. The doors Are beautiful!
This is a great channel. I often go into some old, high-ceilinged building housing an agency or office complex, and daydream about what a great living-space it could be. And here you are, making that daydream a reality. Thank you.
I love how the doors are looking! Such great progress overall.
Looking forward to seeing your progress!!! So cool!!! I don't know how you are doing all this with little ones! Amazing!!
Recycled paint is awesome! I use ReColor, which is the same idea, all the time. I've been very happy with how it holds up and the cost is unbeatable.
A very large project so satisfying to watch . Thank you.
When I lived in the UK I remember Dip and Strip units one could take furniture and doors to. Not very expensive either!
I just found your channel, and I am very impressed in how beautiful everything is turning out . Congrats !
I can not wait to see the total transformation.
So exciting and a big difference already. 😊❤
Man oh man is it fun to watch you pull this together. I just love every minute of video you post. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much Tim!!
What you did with those doors was fantastic. And I'm fascinated by the recycled paint -- I'll have to look into that!
I’m so glad I learned about recycled paint before we started painting the school! ❤️
Incredible. This house will be spectacular
Windows, door (wow! what doors!), walls...can flooring be far behind.
Your story is fantastic.
Onward!
Always love seeing your posts! Love seeing the drywall go up!!!! Looks great!!!
to fix the old wooden door, you can cut the bad part out and use the reclaimed wood with dowels and wood glue. after a few sanding and putting a new paint, it's like new again.
Oh ya! That could have been another solution for the bottoms!
you are a natural tour guide! Thank you for taking us along on this journey! I've long wanted to live in an old schoolhouse and am enjoying living vicariously through you.
The doors look fantastic, keep up the great 👍 work!!!
I love this project! I'm so excited every time you post a video. Great progress!
Watching your updates is so satisfying! Keep them coming. :)
Congratulations 🎊 on all that hard work, saving those beautiful doors. 😍 well worth the efforts.
Looking good... Thx for bringing us along.. Take care and God Bless...
OMG - I have just discovered you. I can't wait to see what you are up to next with your old school. xxg Brisbane Australia
The doors look amazing!! 🎉🎉🎉
Since your kind of going with a school theme and your really working hard to bring the old doors back to some glory I wonder if you've considered kick plates at the bottom of all the doors. They'd be "old School" and hide any imperfections and well as give the door ends a bit more style. You could do brass with brass screws and really dress them up.
I’m excited to follow your journey!
Enjoy all your posts!!
The doors are so beautiful!
Love that you went back to the original wood. They're beautiful ❤️
In LA where I live they have recycled paint centers where the stores like Lowe`s or Home Depot send their mistake piles or even Habitat for Humanity when they mix it together it always looks like some kind of gross bodily fluid and is mainly used to paint warehouses but it is free so that is the good part.
Your schoolhouse transformation is quite an undertaking and I have enjoyed watching the process!
I just came across your channel just before Christmas and I had COVID so I’ll be rewatching a lot of your videos, but I’m wondering with that being an old school property have you guys ever walked any of the property especially where the playground was with a metal detecter to check out that part of the property it’s gonna be a blast to watch that part of your adventures set up a small area just for treasures that you’re going to find like in your library if you guys have one omg with some old school books on shelfs or in a glass case on display makes me wanna go do that down in our old school but it is now a doctors office. I went to school there Grade school and I’m 60 as of two weeks ago I’d say that’s school at least 100 years. You’re doing a great job on your schoolhouse thank you for taking us along on the journey.
God bless you for all the messy, hard work you put in on those doors. I couldn’t have done it without getting discouraged with the whole project.
It looks like some of the doors had glass in them originally. Unless you are going to install wood panels. You could install in some frosted glass or stain glass. To allow some light through your home.
I 🙇♂️ down to you. 21 doors! They are beautiful ❤
What a labour of love, restoring all those doors to their original beautiful wooden condition. Well done 👍love from the UK 🇬🇧
Well, I didn't expect to find that refinishing doors could be a rather fascinating art project. Nice you are making so much progress.
Incredible restoration!!!
You are doing such a good job and so talented.
