This game is too overlooked on the lists of best games of all time!! The sense of exploration and discovery I had playing this is unequal to any other game I ever played, not even the subsequent TR games, which are better on some other aspects. That kind of exploration (having to find an item or the exit in a 3D enviroment, with secrets) was a defining trait of PS1 games, but it then almost entirely disappeared. Now 3D action games are either FPS-like games or completely free-roaming. And obstacles are almost exclusively enemies, there are no more enviromental obstacles except for platforming games (which on the other hand usually don't have the sense of exploration). I want these games back!!
Fun Fact: This was the FIRST Video game I ever played. And I was only 5 years old. And this game scared me more than Resident evil could ever hope to be.

The Raptors and T-Rex of corse, The cistern's creepy ambiance made me think undead things were laughing at me off-screen, the atlantian monsters with raw exposed muscle that explode when they die, (Don't forget that creature that copies your every movement) but the biggest scare for me was turning into gold via Midas hand because I had no knowladge of greek mythos to know what would happen.

I feel sad to say that i never played the original Tomb Raider, but i played the anniversary edition and that was a great game and i had fun with it at the time.
The anniversary changed Lara's character so much, in the original when she was hit on by man she was flattered in the anniversary she has to "stand up to herself" because the devs couldn't have her be like an average woman she hast to be strong and independent.
