Oh, from memory you play as three different characters in the game. You couldn't play as McDonald all the way through, he commits suicide half way through the movie!
I had this on the PS2, I must admit I did quite enjoy it at the time, you can tell in a lot of segments the developers were influenced by Metal Gear Solid. But what drove me insane (that I didn't know about until it happened) that early versions of the PS2 port had a glitch in the game where when you completed the game it would corrupt your entire memory card, wiping every single save on the card. It pissed me off to high hell that did!!!
***** Well they sorted out the bug in the re-printing of the disc. but this was Pre-PSN online days so no patch. The only response was you were advised to remove the memory card when you played the final level in the PS magazines at the time. Downside to that is, you could never have the save for new game+ then. Not that it mattered if it fucked up your entire memory card.

They may have made games about Titanic but I've never once seen anyone try to make a game about Gone With The Wind, Of Mice And Men, or Clockwork Orange. The only good movie licensed games (if you count them as such) are the Lego games. Lego Star Wars, Lego Harry Potter, Lego Lord of the Rings those games are all freaking awesome.

I remember playing the great escape as a kid except I played the PS2 version. Not sure if they are 100% the same in every way, but yep this is indeed the game I remember. I played it and actually somehow beat it as a kid. It's really amazing how easily we were pleased as kids because now, I couldn't imagine getting through the first level of this. I really enjoyed this episode as always, but in the first few minutes you mentioned that the games were 'ridiculously okay' which kinda gave away your decision to Slauvage the games.
