In this video, Did You Know Gaming takes a look at some facts, secrets, Easter eggs and history of the Tomb Raider franchise. Tomb Raider is an action adventure and platforming video game series that focuses on the adventures of Lara Croft. The first game in the series originally released for the Sega Saturn, but the franchise is strongly associated with the PlayStation brand due to its strong sales on the PS1. Through our analysis of Tomb Raider, the franchise gameplay and beta builds, we hope to show some of the more interesting facts from the making of the game and have its history explained.

And two, no, Laura is not better looking than PUR; a mess of pixels isn't attractive. Regardless, maybe don't go out of your way to insult women on the internet? I know that they probably scare you, since all of your interactions with females involve restraining orders, but maybe if you didn't immediately tell women they're less attractive than a video game character, they wouldn't pepper spray you as often.

RegeroTerra I think that people who say other people are "triggered" are projecting. They are incredibly insecure in themselves, and think that calling other people insecure makes them strong. They're sad little boys pretending to be big tough men, like all bullies before them. I legitimately wish that they would look in the mirror and realize that they're not happy being jerks, and actually try to change for the better.

No, it really doesn't. If she had said "Other blue plaques honour fictional Sherlock Holmes, Mozart, Virginia Woolf and Jimi Hendrix", then the syntax could be seen as implying that all those figures are fictional. What she actually said was "Other blue plaques honour fictional Sherlock Holmes, as well as Mozart [etc.]". The brief pause and the use of 'as well as' marks the adjective 'fictional' out as pertaining only to Holmes.
Did you also know that Lara Croft appeared in a music video of the Song "Männer sind Schweine" (men are pigs) from 1998 by the German cult pop-punk band "Die Ärzte" (The doctors)? In it Lara fights three of the band members in an old factory building who ultimately lose against her.

NO FUCKING WAY. Two days ago, I started playing Tomb Raider 2 again and just yesterday I was thinking "Why didn't DYKGaming ever make a Tomb Raider video?" AND IT IS HAPPENING ONLY 24 HOURS LATER.
I had 1 and 3 on my first PC and a friend of mine had 3 on his PS1. We never got beyond the first level in the jungle because we were too dumb to understand how to use the zip line. 😂

I had Tomb Raider: Legends on my Xbox 360 but I was 11 and my mom forced me to sell it cause tiddies and guns.
Ended up being forced to buy Sonic Transformed on 360 and hated it. Sold that aswell.

in tomb raider blood ties they mention lara (as a child) locking wilfred in the freezer.
this is a nod towards the second game where you could trick Wilfred into going in the freezer by jumping over him

Tomb Raider is such an under-appreciated series these days, so I'm really glad to see a video like this!
It's a shame the new games don't even try to capture the same tone of the original franchise. Now it's just Uncharted but melodramatic and misses a lot of what makes Uncharted fun. They should be two different franchises with the same basic adventure premise!
Kain and Raziel are also playable as DLC for Lara croft and the temple of Osiris along with Kane and Lynch

I preferred the old Lara Croft who was actually competent and a badass over the new whiny and week one. And I've not played a Tomb Raider game since Tomb Raider one and the demo for 2 and one of the PlayStation 2 games that I briefly played for a few hours
The old tomb raider was hell to play and the character was ridiculous
New series isn't same game type. Prev we had action sudo FPS and now we have survival sudo FPS. That why i don't play that games - but we must admit that Nethan Drake cinematic style works really well
Also Tomb Raider once got a interactive DVD game back when those were a thing. All it was though was Angel Of Darkness with "choices" and QTEs

I've never played Tomb Raider until last year. I can honestly say it's pretty great, at least this anniversary-updated version. I love the gameplay and the level-design.
I'm probably in no right to say anything about the newer games, but from gameplay footage it looks like it's trying to be more like Uncharted than Tomb Raider.
I mean, I guess Uncharted series kinda became it's own version of what the original TR games were in their time -- "playable movies" and all that. But as I have played both series I like the difference in designs -- in regards to aesthetics, story, characters and gameplay.
So I kinda wish the newer TR games were less quick-action events & crafting, and more exploration like it used to be.
Man does that main menu theme bring back some memories.

During the bit where they were talking about the Legacy of Kain references in Tomb Raider, I'm surprised they didn't mention that both Kain and Raziel were playable in Guardian of Light.
The original Tomb Raider was the first real game I got for my Saturn and wow was it a good game to start on.

Oh! back when Tomb Raider made me feel unconfortable for the "right" reasons instead of for all the wrong ones.
The reason subsequent TR games didn't come out on the Saturn is that Eidos signed a console exclusivity deal with Sony after TR1.

I'd start with Tomb Raider: Legend or 2013. I think the Legend Trilogy has the best story in the series and I think it has better level design. If you want to try and keep up with the modern story, go with 2013
The classic ones are the ones you should start with if you want an idea of what the series was originally. Sometimes going backwards just doesn't work.

Not going to complain about Lara's chest size from an aesthetic point-of-view, but from a logical point of view: I can't imagine it would be the comfortable doing all that jumping and athletics and such.

Was the video out because of the new tomb raider coming out next year witch I can’t wait since I played the ps3 game and it was great even online was fun I also played the Tomb Raider 4 on the ps1 in the ps3 Console

still love the game, i remember first playing the demo for pc, played the hell out of that, then found it for the Saturn. The game is the reason I even got a PSX just so I could play TR2, Ironically I had picked up 2 other games when I got my PSX, FF7 and Legacy of Kain all of which I still have. What was awsome was many yrs later I got my hands on a JP copy of TR for the Saturn and it was able to use the save files from my US copy. TR has had long rough trip, some ups and some downs, 3 was just damn brutal and I rather enjoyed AoD. I rly loved the return of Natla and her Lara's clone and the DLC that let you play a story line as the clone.
Ugh...Angel of Darkness was so bad...which is a shame because I liked Lara's "Canadian Tuxedo" (Denim Jacket and Denim Jeans) outfit a lot...

Wasn't there a port of at least the first game for the Dreamcast? I can remember one of my friends having Tomb Raider back in the day, but I don't recall him having a Saturn or a Playstation.

I remember that Tomb Raider 2 was being worked on for the Sega Saturn as well as the PS1, but Sony offered an exclusivity deal to Eidos and, since TR1 sold better on the PS1 anyway Eidos agreed. Ultimately that meant that no other Eidos games would appear on the Saturn during it's (very short) lifetime but, when that exclusivity deal ended at the very end of 1999, several Eidos titles would make it to the Dreamcast (TR4, Chronicles, Soul Reaver 1 and Fighting Force 2, all in short order).
And I own TR1 for both the Saturn and the PS1 (and for DOS). While the PS1 version clearly looks better, I didn't notice any glaring glitches in the Saturn version myself.
I only saw footage for it back then, or perhaps played it on the PlayStation demo disc.
