In this video, we go through the installation of our in-house engineered Luft-Technik and Kohlefaser Luft-Technik intake systems. We show the removal of the stock intake and demonstrate helpful tips for installing our aftermarket intake.
One major benefit of installing an aftermarket intake includes increased airflow, allowing the car to breathe easier. This results in increased power from your turbocharged engine. Intakes also open up the sound of your engine and make your turbo more audible. Our intake is dyno tested with proven power gains. In the video we put the car on the dyno to show the power increase and take it outside to hear the sound.
*The microphone is mounted under the hood for intake soundclips.
Omfg after watching Money Pit in the Donut Channel I wanted to do the same to my car an add an Air Intake, and for my big surprise Zack is also here
I just did the same thing
@@maverickkajita7824 me too
No way me too
Just realized I’ve been watch Zack jobe for years before he was on donut.
Awesome step by step instructions! Also, to anyone wondering how it sounds, it's badass!
Just installed mine on my mk7 and this video made it super easy to do! And so far I'm very impressed with it
Glad the video helped, enjoy!
ECS Tuning I had a question, it's been about a day since installed it and now it hearing what seems like to be rubbing, do you have any idea what it could be?
noli biza Did you figure out what was causing the sound? Mine is making some noise as well
Nathan Kelley Yea the intake pipe is rubbing on the rubber seal on the heat shield. It seems like the pipe moves when under load rubs up against it, causing the sound. Still have yet to figure out how to fix it tho. Hoped it helped
noli biza had the same issue. i put a little bit of grease where it contacts and the noise is gone.
Planning on getting a GTI and this is the first thing I'm installing on it that and a new exhaust
love how easy it is to follow your videos! keep up the good work

So the Kohlefaser intake is the same as Luft-Technik but with intake cover right?
If so, do you plan to sell just the Kohlefaser intake cover so that people with Luft-Technik intake can buy it as add-on?
Unfortunately the carbon fiber lid will not fit with the Luft-Technik intake. The Kohlefaser-Luft Technik intake's heat shield is shorter to accommodate the carbon fiber lid and includes additional mounting locations for the lid.
Awwww... can you pleaseeeee release the top lid for the Luft as well? There are people who wants the lid option so they can run open intake for more sound and closed for performance whenever they wish :(
ayee my boy zack got a whole new money pit
heyitsthatguyfromdonutmedia
oh my goodness it's ZACK JOBE!
The vacuum line goes on the intake metal piece before the filter
How did you address the rain water problem while the car is running in heavy rain? There a ram air/water effect while the car is moving at speed, if the filter is wet enough the engine will continue to suck water straight into the engine.
My god that intake pipe holder screw was hard to get in, other than that easy install, that makes the car sound way better !
hey its that guy from Donut!
ZACH JOBE!
Love these vids, but I'm curious: do you guys ever do install vids for MK7 Jettas? I understand that most people purchasing these mods are more likely to start with a GTI/GLI/R platform, but install vids for us poor folks would also be appreciated. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the feedback! We will get some Jetta DIY's in the hopper!
Awesome, thanks!
the money pit miata guy is everywhere
Presume that's the same for the 2019 Seat Leon FR 190? Apparently it's the EA888 Gen3 engine.
Nice video. Probably gonna get this for my 2015 s3 🙏
Sounds slick and tender 👍🏻
MK7 GTi owners: Do not get this intake. The plates are horrible conformed and do not flush fit at the snorkel point. The holes on the carbon fiber piece do not line up with the plate holes to securely mount the carbon fiber top to the plate. 550$+ intake you would expect it to fit MUCH better than a 150$ intake. Get you a different intake, do not get this one.
Which one to get then?
Where can I buy that heat shield I have the intake but I want the heat shield with it
Do you guys sell the carbon fiber lid separately? Didn’t appear so online but I bought the 300$ Instead of the 500$ one online without it and now I want that carbon fiber lid.
TheJamalThomas same here been wondering for about a year
So does the cover then make it a fully inclosed system? Or are their openings for engine heat to enter? Because then at that point it’s a really expensive open air intake that redirects a bit more outside air to it. Do you have an IAT comparisons?
I just ordered today, I didn’t notice in the video but ECS is it recommended to removed negative battery terminals?
So what do you do with the vacuum line??
The round piece that goes around the bolt that holds the aluminum pipe to the engine should NOT be round. It being round causes the pipe to be propped up against the rest of the housing which stops the bolt from going in straight. You can even see him struggle with it in the video. I had to grind it down to get it to fit my mk7 gti
i rescind my comment, i was trying to put the 10mm bolt in the hole below and to the left of the proper one. Fits great now lol
@@MiniAdler13 unreal
does this fit on mk8?
This one does not, but we have intakes for the MK8's! We have both an open and a closed system, available in both wrinkle black and carbon fiber. Here's a link to our open version which would be closest to what's shown in the video bit.ly/3t8zrQB
Is this basically the kit for the mk7 Jetta 2019 MK7 1.4t?
Is this intake better then the cats turbo intake? This one sounds louder.
Is it necessary to have a secondary air filter adapter kit into my mk 7 gti with an aftermarket air intake ?
Anyone know if you can use this for the 2.0 TDI Engine?? CRLB engine code…?? Don’t see why not 🤷🏻♂️
I have a stick 2017 Gti w just a blow up diverted space. I wanna get this intake but does my car have to be tuned
No, no tune is necessary for the air intake, I just installed mine and no CEL or anything popped up!
Ima sub man great video by the way i jst purchased some of ur stuff can't wait till it gets here and as soon as ur new intake release comes out Ima get it to..can't wait.
The front inlet part installed wrong! It should go under the two front openings.
My s3 doesn’t have the secondary air breather hose. Will this fit my 2019 s3
What about the vacuum line
Can anybody give me tips. I bought my gti with this intake, the intake pipe broke at the bolt and i had to order a replacement from ecs but it wont fit in the silicone tube. So i bought a new silicone tube and still wont fit. Should i heat up the silicone or?
Just bought the other version that's enclosed with the carbon fiber covering.
Wow, worst fitting system ever. Nothing like what the pictures show. Am I missing something?
I'm sorry to hear that, the system should fit perfectly. Please reach out to our Customer Service team so we can get you taken care of. Email them at customerservice@ecstuning.com , dial 1-800-924-5172 , or send me your order number and I can have them reach out to you.
Wait what happened to the vacuum line you disconnected in the Golf?
Wait this guy is on the Donut Media Team now
Just installed the carbon in take 2 questions, Do I need to be worried about losing coolants when replace saying the whole set is there going to be air bubbles and my system, Number 2 where can I get Cobb stage one plus map I don't see it anywhere
@ecstuning where can I find the carbon fiber brackets shown in this video on opposite sides of the engine bay for my 2015 mk7?
Audi A3 8v has a sensor on the inlet pipe and I have no clue what to do w it after I install my new intake
What if you don’t have a secondary air filter
Do you need to burp the cooling system? Every reroute line I've seen doesn't mention burping out the air introduced and I just want to ensure I'm not going to miss a vital step.
Joe Joe did you ever get an answer to this?
Is water provision good on this??
Is this sold as a kit?
my coolant EXPLODED out of the piping lolol
Disclaimer: Not all coolant hoses react the same way. Hopefully it wasn't too messy for you!
What is beter closed air intake or open intake ?
Question, the new 17 audi tts, doesnt have a small breather like this one, why is that if same engine
So glad I saw this video because I was just about to pull the trigger on a K&N Typhoon but I like how this intake utilizes the entire length of the intake vent. I checked your site but can't find the carbon fiber cover anywhere. Also, is that a Neuspeed High-flow charge pipe? I've only seen red pipes from Nuespeed and it doesn't seem like ECS sells a charge pipe.
Our carbon fiber engine cover and charge pipes both come out very, very soon! Sign up with your vehicle on our email list and you'll know right when they are released.
awesome!
I got a mk7.5 2020 I need a good air intake which one would you recommend
All that work and cost for 1lb and 4 hp. How can you tell a difference?
Is the heat shield enough to block out engine soak? Would a fully enclosed intake make a significant difference?
The heat shield helps block out heat soak, but carbon version does an even better job. Check out the dyno charts starting at 8:56 to see how each intake performed.
Will this fit my 2014 GTI??
4:56 what's that other nut right there? i accidentally loosened it and when i try to tighten it up it just spins around like it's stripped
The silver T30 torx fastener you're referring to is used to mount the turbo outlet pipe in place. Make sure you are aligning the bolt with the hole or else it will spin freely in the sleeve/washer.
Thanks for the quick response. I tried for about 15 minutes from multiple angles and couldn't get it back in... such an awkward spot to get to. I got it started but it won't actually thread into the hole... How bad is it if I just leave it halfway?
I already know the answer to this, but maybe hearing it from an expert will get me back outside to work on it haha.
great! I'm very interested! No tune is required right?
That is correct!
Is it possible to get a rolling sound clip? Outside and inside?
So the only difference between the GTI and Audi systems that you installed is the carbon fiber lid? Would this lid also work on the GTI? It has a very nice clean look to it.
Both the heat shield version (Luft-Technik) and carbon fiber version (Kohlefaser Luft-Technik) will fit both VW and Audi.
The carbon fiber version will be releasing soon. We used the Audi S3 in the video to demonstrate the install difference between the two intake versions.
so beautiful. cant wait!
Hi, i have a question. I have the new Vw Golf GTD 2018 and this facelift hasn’t the sound aktuator. I would like to know how to do the GTD sound much better. If i put a complete line of Milltek exhaust and the kufatek module sound i will something cool? I mean not only the aktuator. Another advise?
Thank you and congratulations for your channel!!
DirtyDoc cut out the gtd engine and put a gti Engine in it => Sound ................. otherwise Never , Diesel 🤷🏼♂️
How much hp was it making did anybody catch the numbers??
Can this also work on a Golf 7 1.4 TSI?
Hey bro whats with the cane? are you dealing with an injury?
Zach is recovering from a motorcycle accident. Our shop fabricator made him some canes to help him get around!
The shift knob is a nice touch :)
Does the carbon fiber cover completely close off the filter from the engine bay or is there still an opening?
There is a small cutout in the sheet metal portion of the box to allow access to mounting hardware. Other than that, the filter is isolated from the engine bay when the carbon lid is used.
ECS Tuning, thank you for that explanation. Keep up the great videos.
I want to buy one that is compatible with the Seat Toledo 1.4 tsi 2016 model
So what happened to the dyno numbers??
Do you do a intake for a Audi a3 2014 2.0 tdi if so please post a link thanks
It's the dude from donut
For the Audi, do you need to add the carbon fiber lid?
Either intake (heat shield or carbon fiber) will work on an Audi. We just used an Audi to demonstrate the carbon version. Here's a link so you can check out both intakes: goo.gl/haAEEO
Is this intake compatible with the Mk8?
would this fit a 2014 r-line beetle
hello macan S 3.0t no have?
Wow,
Can you do at Audi A3 2015 1.8 T ??
It fits the 8V A3; both the 1.8T and 2.0T.
You guy have a intake for my jetta gli 2019?
@The Insufferable Tool it is ...not disappointed with my purchase
intake and downpipes from 2018 gtis should fit the gli.
Do I need a tune after install?
Kylar did you end up getting the answer?
can i put this on a mk7 golf tsi 4 door?
It seems to me that your not getting much of the cold air coming in the front grill. The only way into the intake for that air is the little vents on the very front passenger side. otherwise there is no cold air coming in at all. It would seem you would have to cut holes on the driver side front to allow more air from the grill. You might say that air is coming in under the hood but I don't think so. The hood fits very close so it doesn't seem much air can come in there. Let me know what you think about this.
Larry Richelli exactly what i thought.. its inefficient. Perhaps it is for the rain not to get in
Was that on 91 octane or 93 , I would of expected at least about in the 270's whp with a Cobb OTS , cat-back with your intake.
The dyno was done using 93 octane fuel. Keep in mind that we test using a Mustang dyno, which puts a load on the rollers, simulating a testing experience similar to road driving. Some car enthusiasts have nicknamed the Mustang dyno "the heartbreaker."
so the carbon intake cover will be out soon as well then correct @ecs?
We don't have a release date set yet, but the Kohlefaser Luft-Technik Intake (carbon fiber version) will be out soon.
What is that tool you used to remove that clip holding the intake piping?
At 1:48 we use our Schwaben Hose Clamp Pliers. Here's a link so you can check them out: goo.gl/FqHI0j
Do you ship to Belgium?
I'm interested in the NON-carbon fiber intake. Will this heat shield work if my ECU has a metal plate over it?
Yep, it'll work just fine!
I just installed it on my 7.5 R (the non-carbon fiber Luft-Teknik). It's nice to be able to hear the turbo spool and purge, but now I have to deal with two things. 1)more engine noise, which is fine, but now 2) for some reason the gas pedal vibrates at certain mid RPMs..is this normal ?!?!
No, this intake shouldn't cause any abnormal vibrations. Check and make sure all rubber components are properly in place for maximum isolation and that your air filter is suspended off of the heatshield.
Do you have a kit like this for the 2.0 TDI (CBEA/CJAA engine codes)?
We do not make an ECS Tuning intake for your TDI but we do sell a few different options by Neuspeed and AFe. Here's a link: goo.gl/QQzc9L
Let us know if you have any questions about either intake.

I have the audi s3 2017 and I can't get the air box out.I feel if I pull to hard I'll brake it. how do I unclip the two rubber/plastic clips under the air box?
Powerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Pull it out with force, It won't brake. I was at your position before.
Does it require to change the diverted valve also?
No, our intake requires no other modifications for compatibility.
If I put this intake in my A3 8v 1.8 tfsi along with stage 1tune , will the stock diverter valve need to be changed? Just curious as I do t know much about these things.
Our intake should work great with a Stage 1 tune, but it's worth it to check with your specific tuner to see if they have a Stage 1 map that is tailored to an upgraded intake. The diverter valve will not need to be changed with our intake. Let us know if you have any other questions.
Check out our tune options for your 8V A3 1.8T: goo.gl/Mr28ft
Nice ratchet noise 👍
Is this the same guy from Donut Media?
What can I do for my '17 1.4T?
Does the intake fit 2018 Golf GTI Performance? If so i'm buying right away!
We haven't had a 2018 (MK7.5) GTI in the USA to test fit on, but things seem to be nearly identical under the hood!
Thanks fellas!
Anyone know the size of that 10mm Allen Bolt ?
Im trying to figure that out lol
What happens to the vacuum pipe?
06:02
Hey can I do that on my vw 2013 Tiguan?
wil it sound the same on a audi a3 sportback 2010 2.0tfsi??
Unfortunately this intake will not fit an 8P A3 as it is only designed for the new 8V generation of the A3.
which wil fit ??
Is this intake California certified? I know a lot of them are not
Unfortunately our intakes do not go through the certification for California at this time.
LOL, fuck California and its $5 per gal of gas, that State can have itself.....as it floats off to Hawaii, LOL.....thank god I got out of there
Guys does anyone perhaps know why my cars rev is going up and down on its own? Engine light came on. 2 oil leaks below car now as well. Only did software, downpipe, and exhaust
I have a 2014 VW G7 GTI
Does this fit on the regular VW golf MK7 SE???
This product will fit a MK7 golf. Check our website for all our our MK7 intakes. You can select from a multitude of different styles, there is also a compatibility section.
What this ?? When buy this ?
Is that sound coming from the intake itself or is that a BOV I am hearing? That sounds insane!
The car has no BOV, just the stock diverter valve. The sound you're hearing is all from the intake, with a microphone mounted under the hood.
stock intakes have silencers that cut the purge sound... getting an intake is the easiest and most cost effective way to get the purge your looking for.
SofaKingLeet I'm not looking for a "purge" sound. I was simply wanting to know if that was the "true" sound of the intake or not. It sounds an awful lot like an AM BOV and not an intake. After finding out they have a mic under the hood explained it all....definitely not going to be as loud as they advertise. Great looking intake though.
dReAdLoKdEmOn it is very loud without an aftermarket BOV. i have a 1.8t audi with only an intake and a stage 1 apr tune. makes loud massive purge sounds with the factory diverter valve. its a total myth that you need a BOV to get the PPPSHHHHH sounds inbetween shifts
Huh, that's good to know, but it must be an Audi thing then. I have read 4 reviews so far today saying that this intake is not near as loud as they say on their GTI's. The only reason a BOV was ever mentioned was to reference the sound the intake is making in the video. I have NEVER heard an intake make that audible of a release. Hence, the reference to the BOV sound. Anyone that has had both intake and a BOV, knows the difference in sound. Which is why I needed an explanation as to why it sounds so loud. If I wanted a BOV sound, I would probably already have one installed.
Would this still work with the Mk7 Golf (Not GTI or R just standard) ??
Do you have the MK7 Golf 1.8T? If so, it will fit!
ECS Tuning ah damn, i got the 1.4 tsi
Aidan Marangos forge do a intake for the 1.4t
