    I love these Volkswagen turbo engines. They can make so much more power over stock barely doing anything. Then they’re still reliable while doing it for the most part. The altitude is definitely pretty high here also. The lowest area is about 3900 feet and the highest being near 8000

    0.5 to 1 KR is nothing on these cars. 3-4 across all cyl is usually when knock starts happening. Anything higher than 4+ you are knocking. APR actually turns down the KR sensitivity on their tunes.

  • @raykor85
    @raykor85 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    Isn't it more likely that the horsepower gain is actually from the E85 mix and the reason you're seeing gains over multiple pulls is the mix becoming more concentrated with ethanol?

    • @bbowers825
      @bbowers825 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except most people run a ethanol sensor so they can tell once the gas mix becomes mostly ethanol...

    • @sv.motorsports
      @sv.motorsports 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bbowers825 The factory makes changes regardless when you mix the fuels. From memory, it allows upto E30 of a mix before it cannot make anymore adjustments.

    • @brettcrochiere9537
      @brettcrochiere9537 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Disclaimer: I have little idea what I’m talking about. I’m not sure if there are gains in hp with ethanol being added to the fuel alone, and im pretty sure the ethanol only allowed the engine to run on the same “baseline” they were getting on pump gas under different conditions. Im assuming the timing was advanced uniformly across the tests and it’s still a fair comparison.

    I run a Uni stage 2 GTI with JB4 stack, I have the APR intake and APR turbo inlet pipe. For tuned cars I think its a must, every little bit helps. For me, I would say its 100% worth it for 5HP. Otherwise thats 5 HP less you dont get and they are not that expensive.

  • @20bmx26k
    @20bmx26k 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Only thing I’ll add that makes this video with his inlet tests a bit questionable regarding his gains. His car also picked up more power the more runs he did after adding the ethanol because you were trying to reach the normal base line you already had. You have to factor that in. Ethanol mix’s can add 10hp by themselves. So with the ethanol and inlet combined. Going from 292 to 303 is completely expected.

  • @karstgeo7290
    @karstgeo7290 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The question I always have about these tests is...why not repeat the baseline run at the end to close it up and show that with the oe elbow (or whatever part you are testing) truly bring the power back down to the level you started?

    • @b16crxturbo
      @b16crxturbo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I suppose if we were trying to be a bit more scientific about it we could. Time constraints is why aren't able to continue to swap parts. The cars need to cool in between runs for consistency. We were making sure temps were the same so results wouldn't be skewed because of that. Thanks for watching!

      APR intake doesn't do much as far as air flow. If you just take off snow guard from air filter stock air box will do almost exact air flow as APRs. If you just get rid of snow guard and get a K&N drop in it measured much better air flow when you compare to APRs. There is a guy testing all those air intakes with air flow machine. There is so much noise and nonsense in the VW community regarding these engines and mods. "Turbo inlet doesn't make any horsepower," blah blah blah. Now, admittedly when I looked at my stock turbo inlet pipe, I figured an aftermarket wouldn't really be a benefit at all. However, coming from years of tuning DSMs, my mantra was always to add parts individually, tune for them, and see the results at the drag strip.
    I can't stand all of this VW "stage' nonsense because everyone just does certain mods and applies a flash and calls it a day. Nobody tunes the car themselves or actually tests mods with proper tuning and then they run their mouths on the internet about how certain parts do nothing because it's not required by their in-the-box "stage" tuning. Well, no shit, if your car isn't tuned for the part then it's not going to gain power. Or, they see a 5-10 hp increase and write it off as useless because "a tune will net you so much more power for the money."
    Well hey, when you're actually trying to go faster at the track, sometimes it requires you to spend a little cash on a part that only makes a slight difference, but actually helps a lot once you start modding the car even more. Gee, it's almost like nobody in the VW community cares about actually driving their cars fast! Or they don't understand how bolt-ons work.
    It's super frustrating to look into these things and see people spouting "experience" on the internet when they really have none. Grab your laptop, go to the track, and test the shit. Or do it on a dyno. Anything less is just spouting nonsense.
    I like PFI. You guys are cool.

      A stock civic type r does not make 360whp stock so what are you talking about? And if your "fully built" civic makes only 400whp then it DEFINITELY not fully built... and I own a 600whp lsv
