Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
crime here, called emissions and smoke crime...:-(//

I’m all for performance gains but I hate cotton filters because they let so much crap into your engine…..it’s making more power because it ain’t filtering like the paper one is….if you want your engine to last a long time stick with paper. Mercury invented paper to replace oiled filters a long time ago, they’re not new.

    • @fs5866

If you're not living in an arid desert environment I don't think you have any reason to worry about, especially if you also keep your air box and replace with a cotton copy of the OEM filter.
I do agree that removing the air box and putting one of these round filters always sounded like a bad idea but if you keep the airbox in place, you should have no issues ever.

Honestly the answer really depends on the car... Or rather what engine the car is equipped with. Some cars will see No gains what so ever and only losses. Other will see large gains. An example would be the Honda "J series" Accord and Odyssey engines (as well as the NSX but thats obviously a given). They can free up as much as 10 Actual measurable HRRSPRRS buy changing the intake around. More if you do the rest of the supporting mods like the intake plenum. This has been documented on videos with dynos just like yours here.

Facts: German engineer Wernher von Braun, who designed the the rockets that went to the Moon, hated the Imperial measurements and used only metric measurements.
The official definition of an inch is described in millimetres: "Standards for the exact length of an inch have varied in the past, but since the adoption of the international yard during the 1950s and 1960s the inch has been based on the metric system and defined as exactly 25.4 mm. " (Wikipedia)
Freedom units are an oxymoron, aka. self-contradiction. Measuring implies the act of reducing freedom in the measured object.
Don't say: " I use freedom units", when you mean to say: " I'm too damn lazy to acquire the correct tools for a vehicle made with the metric scale."

Often times, aftermarket filters increase resultant flow at the sacrifice filtration efficiency.

Installed an intake and could feel the difference with it. Had it dyno tuned and went from 202kw at the wheels to 208kw at the wheels just with the intake. The actual dyno tune is now 306 kw at the wheels 870nm of torque. Only mods are the intake and a cat back 3 inch exhaust. My favourite thing about it is the induction noise from the intake.

  • @legion2531

There's no point buying an expensive kit if only one or two cheap parts make all the gains. There are 4 parts
    -filter
    - air box
    -hose
    -turbo inlet pipe
The modified air box (remove the snow grate), performance filter, hose and TIP flowed 383 @ 28 inches. The r600 flowed 399 with an 034 tip. That's FA difference. So you definitely don't need to spend $1500 on a carbon airbox. With regard to filters you have a choice. Filters with high airflow don't filter as much. Ask the filter manufacturer if they have done a ISO5011 test and can provide you the results. They will not. Try googling iso5011. There is a reason vw uses the filter type it uses.

Car tested with "Stock" Airbox - but did it have a High Flow Filter or OEM Filter?
Only 1 Run with the stock intake, but 2 with that aftermarket intake.
High Flow Filter will increase airflow 33%(+/-1%).
--A Flow Bench reports only a Number. All those tests are not indicative of generating power.

I have a 98 inline 5 turbo Volvo.. snabb makes a turbo inlet but there are no decent intakes. I bought some 3" spectre tubing. As I have a 3.25" maf for my larger turbo I needed a 3.25 to 3" coupler. My inlet as well being 3" required a coupler in 90°. So anyway I used a 3" straight section and mounted my 3" inlet spectre filter directly behind where the stock airbox attached to the air dam in the grill. Used a 3" accordion style duct work and ran it through the grill. I have no shield and the filter is still getting some inside under the hood air I'm sure. But since I have water methanol injection pre throttle body. That air might be warm feeding into the turbo, it's below ambient going into the engine. Even with a stock intercooler my iat combined with 93 octane + vp racing octanium achieved maximum brake torque which usually requires e85. Have a dw fuel pump and 80lbs dw injectors. A billet hybrid turbo. And made 350whp and 415ft lbs of torque on an almost 30 year old stock internals engine. And modified stock ECU with internal 3 bar map sensor, and repurposed rear O2 preheater wires powering my vvt cam solenoid. Also running full lambda control eliminating the stock narrowband O2 wiring the aem x series analog into my stock harness. Pretty amazing stuff from my tuner. He modifies the ECU himself adding a voltage step up to enter flash mode, and created an xdf parameter file to work in tunerpro. Even 2 step launch control, and flat foot shifting with an added clutch switch, as well as dual maps I can switch on the fly by pressing the gas pedal on key on no start. One map for 93 and one for the 93 + vp. Also set a flashing engine light if the knock sensor detects more then 2 knocks in a 1 second period. It can read up to 46 parameters at 25 samples per second.

I don't think that ECU controled engine will straight away give diffrient result in HP, mostly due to MAF and correction values.... Btw. diffrient lenght / geometry may work in pressure side pipes. Filter may give a lot in tight engine bay w. big turbo. (boost 1.5 bar+). So i mostly consider that video as install DIY for medium-wise chimpanzee...

  • @caveone-365
    @caveone-365 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Lol @ "wallered" out. 😂 Exactly like they say in the south!! I would think the foam element might even flow slightly better. I know back in the day before there was a lot of choices for intakes like on the older CIS cars companies like Jamex and ITG made some of the best flowing media and they also were much easier to clean and oil than cotton/ gauze K&N style filters, plus the whole argument about the cotton/ gauze elements flowing well *at the expense of* letting too many particles past the media... Obviously this can be considered a negligible amount depending on how dusty your climate is and your cleaning/ oiling maintenance schedule. I usually prefer the foam elements whenever I have the choice for the above reasons, but again, this was many moons ago before better manufacturing processes and technology. AEM even introduced the Dry Flow filters which use neither foam or the cotton. They have more in common to the traditional OEM paper/ pleated media. Regardless on cars with a MAF that is close to the filter, you never want to over-oil and make sure that the element is totally dry when you reinstall it, or you risk ruining you MAF if the hot film/ wire gets contaminated with the filter oil or cleaning agent. You can hit the MAF with some CRC MAF or contact enhancement spray and sometimes save them if this happens. Another cheap and effective way to clean your MAF is rubbing alcohol. Put the sensor and some alcohol inside of a ziploc bag and shake the hell out of it. Pull it out and hit it with a blowgun CAREFULLY (low air pressure/ from a distance.) Just a cheap hack to mention if you're in a pinch. Paul is the man and he is always entertaining. Nice to see some actual data with dyno plots to back up the gains. Its cool how the ECU is actively 'learning' during the pulls/ drive cycles and you gained an additional 10 WTQ. Doesn't appear to be any losses through the entire RPM range which is a plus. Solid gains for a SIMPLE mod. Thanks for sharing👍👍🙂

Don't get excited over those numbers and think a ram air intake on a stock 1994 honda civic is going to make that kind of increase in power. Factory Turbocharged cars have more restrictions than N/A to keep the turbo from responding as quickly so they will have the most benefit from a ram air/cold air. Doesn't mean I won't put one on there myself, but I don't expect anything but noise and a slightly better looking engine bay from an N/A car. I also don't buy $300 intakes when I can get one on ebay for $50 that will do the same thing. Worried about heat soak? $20 gets you some exhaust wrap and you can wrap the intake pipe with whatever color you want.
Edit: Not dissing your intake, dude. It clearly works. This message is for the N/A drivers.

So you mean to tell me this car makes 50 more hp than advertised, except at the wheels? 🤤 Or is it remapped (edit: forgot the new ones have that pesky locked Bosch ECU... I can only assume this is a 2019/2020 and was in fact remapped?)

I was sold on the R600 when a stock Tiguan 162 improved from 6.5 to a 6.1 with just this intake.
    Couple of pointers
    1. No it won't sit flush against the front
    2. The cotton filter has the racing line logo on its front so when you look through the grill the logo is clearly identified (badge bling)
I am curious as to why the secondary air is needed in the GTI and not the R though?

When I was a dumb immature kid, I was all into modding my car and making it as loud (literally and figuratively) and obnoxious as possible.
But now as a fully formed adult with a more seasoned life outlook, I see all the time, money and trouble installing this intake requires and conclude that it really is not worth the ~10 extra horsepower that no one will feel or utilize on the road and will just make neighbors and everyone within the close vicinity despise you for your reckless driving and dumb eBay coffee can intake/exhaust car noises.
My current car is fully stock, is a sub 3.0 second car, and it doesn’t sound immature and won’t be embarrassing when I drive to business meetings or professional work events.

A cold air intake in general will add some Horses when the opening is mounted low at the front grill. But most cheap intake filters mounted high on the engine will only suck in more hot air from the engine not adding any horses!

I sure would love to win one of these Racingline intakes so here is my comment as requested in the rules of this particular giveaway. If I won this intake I would show my wife that this is the will of ModGod and that I need to pay tribute by buying spacers and springs from DAP. Otherwise he will get angry and demonstrate his wrath in the form of a loose radiator and parking sensor lightshows.

Had the part installed in my Cupra. In addition to more intake noise, it subjectively brings even less torque in the lower speed range. Since the filter performance is also much worse than the original filter, it was thrown out again.

I'm not really a huge fan of modifying these cars, and the percentage of increase in HP and Torque from this filter is really negligible. That said, any install video with Paul or Charles is worth the time to watch.
