    As someone who only found out about this game with the remake, I feel like I definitely missed out by not getting this game on DS, but I'm also glad that I'm only just now playing it so I could experience the game for the first time with full voice acting, because holy cow is this game's voice acting good.

    This game is incredible, I really like the story and cared about the characters. Solid story and characters, something that we don't see too often on the current Rpg's/Jrpg's.

    I think the graphics look fine. Just like with FF6 and some other remasters, sometimes the originals are just better and things are better left alone.

    • @morriganrenfield8240

      If it's going to have a graphical treatment I think it needs to be a brand new engine/look. Because ff6/CT looked a bit funky with the iOS ones

    For the love of god, can we stop calling this a remake :') It's a remaster. They didn't develop from scratch again, they just polished and added to the base game

      The Bravely serie is another good RPG.
      Pokémon and Yo-kai Watch if you are into those things.
      Legend of Legacy is not my cup of tea but I still recommend it.

    Played the original game again a while ago. Still in love with it, because it does so much right compared to its peers regarding the story, its premisse and *_specially_* the character development.
    Not a big fan of Eruca's changed look - short hair suits her so much more - but aside from that there's really not much to add from what Ash said. It's a worthy entry in the Hall of Greats, alongside Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and Lufia II.

    but mainstream anime look in Xenoblade 2 = good?

    Amazing game, I've been playing the demo and I really like everything about it from the story to the artstyle. It starts out sorta easy but over time gets really hard. I've been stuck flipping between timelines to try to advance past the mine in which you discussed in the review. After I finish the demo I fully intend on buying this on my New 2ds. (By the way I never played the original DS game)

    • @roy4173
      @roy4173 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the video did a decent spoiler-free review. The short of it is this. There's not much for returning players. Almost everything is kept the same, even the graphics don't look that updated. The large character art that pops up during conversations is decidedly worse. The bonus content was meh. You can cheese through normal non-boss fights in this version though.

    • @BoBennings
      @BoBennings 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think this is all they’ll do for it since it seems Ash is the only one who’s played it and he’s only a part-time GXer so might not have time to put out a full review

  • @kckaiser683
    @kckaiser683 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I loved the original but I might pass on Perfect Chronology given what seems to be a lack of major new content. I am disappointed with the lack of updated graphics and the change of art style (and I have to agree with Ash's frustration with Eruca's new design). However one thing that Ash did not mention in the discussion that I thought is a major improvement is the varied character portraits. In the original game every single character has one and only one dialogue portrait regardless of the emotion they're expressing in the dialogue. Thus you get awkward moments where one character who is clearly very furious in dialogue would appear to be smiling in a cheerful manner in his character portrait. It might be a minor change to some but while I'm not the biggest fan of the new art style, the fact that every character has multiple portraits to convey emotions would add a level of immersion the original lacked.

    • @higurashikai09
      @higurashikai09 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I'd much rather keep the amazing, unique style of the original over varied portraits. The new design is incredibly generic. Especially Eruca's entire design which is honestly ridiculous. She has this dumb Moe look to her which just kills the regal look she had in the original. The whole generic Disney Princess look of her is honestly unbearable.
      And that anime opening...damn it's ugly. Ugh, the song doesn't suit the story at all. It's just nothing like the atmosphere of the game and neither is the new art style (which at least is WAY better quality than the opening cinematic.)
      I'm definitely sticking to the original. There's no way I can settle for less.

    • @otooandoh9556
      @otooandoh9556 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FluteGeek you can get the original portraits for perfect chronology. unfortunately it's $2.50 dlc... I personally hate the new art style as well as the anime intro so I'm a bit salty that we have to pay to get the original art back

      @satriowirawan3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just saw that this game is on sale and I haven't played the original tho I did play the demo. So from the gist of this video if I haven't played the 3DS and love RPGs, this is a highly recommended game then huh?
    Well I am sold, that plus it's a very long game that's currently 20% off and I am a big fan of good RPG games, especially ones where I can grind happily. Basically depending on my paycheck, I might get this vs Persona 5 as I can get that anytime while this game is on sale for a limited amount of time.

    I hate how Atlus adds the DLC. it's just so disgusting and a miss opportunity to add these additional DLCs as actual content with the game. I really hate how most of their RPGs nowadays have those very expensive shortcut DLCs. Heck to the point that SMT IV seems to have been balanced around these shortcut DLCs. All in all Radiant Historia is a great RPG and kinda gives me that Suikoden 2 feeling so I highly recommend the game but the DLCs really tarnish the game.

  • @austindenko3575

    Ive got 114 hrs into this and still havent hit the perfect ending about 15-20% of it missing. Before anyone gets on me about not completing it in 114 hrs...i dont use and guides ever. And some of this games more secretive side content can be very criptic on many different levels through the quest.
    In love with it though. No regrets on a single hour played...will i ever get the perfect ending?...i dont know. With 93 3ds titles and 20 or more classic rpgs...gotta shelf Radiant Historia for now...as ive seen most of the game and i csnt justify playing it wheb my backlog is like 50 games deep :/. One day.....maybe

    Got the launch edition on DS and played it for 6 hours and got sidetracked with other games before getting any farther. When I finally got back to it I forgot what the heck I was supposed to do. Lol! So I got this edition and I find it better with the extras it has in it than the original had....5 music tracks on a cd. rly?. But it seems like I'm having more fun with this one especially with the voice acted cutscenes, extra histories, and the various difficulty modes. Friendly mode is great. :) It makes it seem like an Ys kind of deal. And you can still get into regular battles if you want.

      The third timeline isn't bad at all. Ash said he wasn't that far in to the game and it shows.
      The Possible Timeline is actually pretty fun, showing lots of alternate stories, and involves a rather interesting plot in it. In no way shape or form does it make things worse.

    I think the game is great. I think the combat is 'okay' and character progression isn't super interesting in comparison to other games like Bravely Default or Etrian Odyssey which are oozing with customization, but the story and characters are great. Very good game for the RPG enthusiasts who really like a well written story.

    I'll have to disagree with you with a lot you said about the new content. You said yourself you havn't finished the game but the possible history timeline holds important relevance to the standard timeline once you complete and collect all the artifacts. Some of the quest even add in and give other possible paths on some nodes in the story when completed. Next time finish the game before you give a review on this remake.

      @maroonkennedy5552 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chriss RE You could do that, but it would just make battles tedious and boring.

  • @MrSentinel07
    @MrSentinel07 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm going to honest. I completely disagree with his comments on the art style.
    I think the change is for the best. It's a lot cleaner to look at and a lot more expressive which adds more to the characters. Obviously your mileage may vary on the change to Eruca's hair style, but overall I consider the art style change to be for the best.

    • @darthr0xas363
      @darthr0xas363 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Blueblade13 Yeah, I totally agree, for most characters. There are a few that look worse, but others look way better. It might be my bias for long haired blondes, but Erika looks way better.

    • @maroonkennedy5552
      @maroonkennedy5552 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DarthR0xas I’m with you two. I prefer the remake’s artstyle over the original’s. Most characters look better in the remake.
      The only character I’d say looks bad in the remake is Viola, but Heiss and Eruca are dramatically improved so it makes up for it IMO.
      I actually played the original first but couldn’t get into it until I played the remake.
      It is rare for a remake to retroactively make the original version better when I didn’t like it at first.

    • @donenilo4401
      @donenilo4401 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I beg to differ. A clean art style does not necessarily mean better, as cleanliness would lean more on simplicity and the mundane instead of leaving an impression.
      I personally do like the new art style, mainly due to its unique rendering, but the original art style definitely sells the tone of the game more.

  • @watainiac
    @watainiac 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow... I was lightly convinced to jump on board with this by someone else who hadn't played it before and picked it up, but the fact that this game even has DLC is really kind of killing it for me. It's a remake/remaster of an old game, and you can't just sell me a whole package without trying to nickel and dime me? And with what you said about the palate swaps being PAID DLC, that's actually pretty disgusting imo. Makes this feel like more of a cash grab as opposed to an excuse to get the game into more people's hands, which is something I would have been totally fine with, because honestly the game did deserve it. But man... considering I was at a "pretty shaky 'like it'" like you were with it being a remake... I'm kinda hoping I can take it back.
    I'll just stick to the original...

    • @zapperil
      @zapperil 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a total of 7.
      You can only use 3 though.
      Stocke's stats were all-around , and has mostly fire-based magic.
      Raynie is your typical magic user , comes with big three.
      Marco is one of the better support/healer unit.
      Aht has a grid traps , elemental based traps that damages enemy when it stepped on the said grid.
      Rosch is your tank , he's behind your level though.
      Gafka is a monk , aka your fisticuffs master that deals as much damage as Stocke but has a dragging move like Marco.
      Eruca is basically a reverse Stocke , she's a magic user like Raynie and Aht , but based on only one spells , ice based spells

      Lol. Dont see why. I find both Project X zone games much worse than this...and in that game its more funny than distracting.
      Perverts exist in real life...so applying it isn't the worst alot of times in massive rpgs

      The Hot Spring DLC can be done with any character.
      As for the question, no there is not. Characters have established relationships.

    This game drags on for a really long time and begins to be repetitive in some ways. You'll be begging for it to finish. It sure does feel like a DS era game, with some nice touches with voice acting. What I dislike is how easy it is to avoid enemies, so you're basically having to force yourself to battle purposely to gain exp. And you'll fight the same exact enemies throughout the whole game. I like the combo system and turn order swapping better than braving and defaultng from Bravely Default. You can actually create a combo without being an expert.
    In order to play this game, you NEED A LOT of free time!! So good luck ever finishing it. I forgot to mention, the side quests are really repetitive and just involve you going to another time period to talk to someone, then go back to the other time to complete the quest. This game LOVES to do this and its annoying back tracking that I completely hate doing. What makes it worse is that you have to think about which time period will allow you to talk to that specific person so you may end up wasting your time searching the wrong time period. Unless you're using a guide, this is very tedious.
    Story is excellent and so is the voice acting, but the music does repeat itself a lot throughout the game.

    Wow, on top of the worse art style and change to Eruka, you have to BUY the old art style? Come on, Atlus, you're better than this. I might not even pick this up since it doesn't seem to add much from the original.

    Generic "animu" redesigns. Ugly opening cinematic. Fanservice DLC.
    Nope. Not buying this. I was happy that this game was getting some more recognition, but now I'm just disappointed.
    If Radiant Historia ever gets a sequel, I wouldn't be surprised to see Waifu content and other fluff content. Maybe they'll even let us marry different girls across different timelines and create your own cross dimensional harem. yay.
    Really kills the atmosphere. I'm sticking with the original. At least I wouldn't have to listen to or watch that OP.

      Reminds me of how "animu" Xenoblade 2 were compared to 1 and X. But hey, it's mainstream for a reason unfortunately.

      No Filter A Nintendo Podcast One of the best, hub?
      You mean push every enemy to one spot and combo off of that every single match. Depending on the enemy position you are basically doing the exact same thing every time. I know someone here said the same thing. It gets old after a while.
      And hitting enemies doesn't even feel good or satisfying. Everything else seems good but the fighting system just turned me off.
      When you have a fighting system that heavily relies on a type of combo system to be the most effective, you are basically asked to do that combo every fight. And when it comes to just positioning enemies, well that's just boring and repetitive.

    • @TheNintendoWizrad
      @TheNintendoWizrad 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SolBuster that can be said about literally every single tuen based combat system in an rpg ever made. This one involved choosing the right moves to position characters appropriately, and swapping out turns to combo effectively. Not required but the most efficient way to proceed. What about persona 5? Find the weakness and attack with said weakness. Over, and over, and over again. However that requires you to memprize the enemies weakness, whereas this requires only what is occurring in that specific combat situation. Legitimately every tuen based rpg has that kind of reptitiveness. Bravely default, default a few times, then brave everyone to high combat damage. Over, and over again. Or in fact, just hit the fast fwd attack button. I could go on and on. So no i completely disagree that that is a bad thing. If anythinf it is good, because every combat has something different to deal with, new moves are required and a bit of a puzzle aspect is needed to place in the corrext spots.

    Why do Nintendo always release those kinds of games / remakes for a console that's at the end of its life cycle? I do have a 3DS but I'd much rather spend my money on a game for my Switch than for my 3DS at this point.... and so would many people, I assume :/

    • @Bakatora04
      @Bakatora04 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vickqyttor the console is still making money and is not like is afecting the switch sales, also they probably started this before the switch was a thing.

      Bakatora04 yeah, I thought so... the complaint was more like a "aw geez I wanna play that, just not enough to spend my cash on a console I've already left to collect dust and nothing more :/" than a critique on the company itself hahaha

      FerrariKangaroo yeah, not thrilled. I got the nice launch edition box, but also have the little CD box edition of the original. I guess it's on me for not checking for sure 1st, but the box has the 3D warning and a 3D 7+ tag, so I assumed it was good to go for 3D. Now I'm not so sure if I want it. New 3DS makes 3D essential in my opinion.

    • @FerrariKangaroo
      @FerrariKangaroo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Geoff Baumgartner So you have both? Would you say it's a worthwhile upgrade or should I stick with my NDS copy? I must say that even though the lack of 3D really irks me, I am tempted by the nice packaging of the launch edition box.
