    Ohh ok this makes more sense now that I see it. It's not actually a 12ft jump, it's a 12ft reach. 12ft jump implies 12ft gap between her and the ground (standing on the ground is 0ft, so), but that was more like 7.5ft. Still crazy, esp while flipping! Everyone saying she was 12ft in the air is definitely misleading 😂

      Total delusion. It's the springs that do it. I doubt she could even test 35 inches doing a running vertical jump

    • @worldculturepulse

      The floor is not like a trampoline. It does help them jump a little higher, but more importantly, helps them land more safely, protecting the ankles and joints. They are barefoot, so they don’t have the support that shoes would provide.

    • @nlsdrf1290

      @@worldculturepulse do you realise that the world record vertical jump is 50.5 inches, which is just over 4 feet? I think the record for a woman is like 40 inches, the force from the backhandspring onto the springs is what propels her, not her muscle.

    The design of the springs and foam covers in the floor mat is intended to create more bounce for gymnasts who are able to put in more force so they can achieve greater heights. As for Biles, it is the force-to-weight ratio that allows her to jump more than twice her height. The production of more momentum from the application of force that precedes skill and other technical factors leads to this increase.

    • @schrodinger6261

      The mat does not act as a springboard or trampoline. It's actual purpose is to cushion/absorb your landing. She's not gaining much height at all from this thing she could do the same from a concrete floor but landing on such a hard surface would cause injury.

    • @ABFABC

      @@schrodinger6261yes it does… no person will ever be able reach 12ft with their head without a trampoline/springy ground

    • @talibjordan9605

      @@ABFABCno it doesn't. I have stood on one one of those floors. It allows you to put more force into the floor without as much pain but it absolutely does not give u any extra height when jumping. Simone might not be able to do this on concrete but only because she's guaranteed to injure herself in the process. If her body was indistructable she could absolutely do this one concrete. My cousin is a professional gymnast and I have first hand experience and knowledge from training in his gym.

    • @aaronsandman749

      It's not "during intermission". The whole thing is a routine. There are choreography requirements. Dance requirements which includes leaps and spins. Tumbling requirements. And the judges really want a routine that flows well and is artistic in nature; hence the sport being called Artistic Gymnastics.
