Nirvana's Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl On His Joining The Band // SiriusXM // Lithium • Nirvana's Krist Novose...
The Daily Show's Jon Stewart hosted a special Town Hall Q&A in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of "Nevermind." Fans asked questions of Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and producer Butch Vig in the SiriusXM Studios in New York City. In this clip, Krist and Dave recall Dave's first rehearsal with the band, and Dave talks about leaving his former band, Scream. The special aired as part of Nevermind Radio, a five-day all-Nirvana channel featuring live recordings, rarities and more. Nevermind Radio took over Lithium, which plays the best '90s alternative music.

Tiny little flash of the old Krist's humour at the very end.
You can see in his eyes how exciting it was for them back then.
"Underwater welding.." Love how Krist and Dave fall into some old school Nirvana interview banter at the end.
“There IS a lot of money in underwater welding”.
When Kurt died he took a part of Krist with him. I would say that Kirst misses his buddy the most and he honours Kurt as much as he can.
Krist has that demo tape from Kurt and he didnt listen to it like almost a year86-87, predict he didnt take Cobane for sirious, but they mate a lot so after he has listened that tape got realized thats it!!! Ill bet he regrets he aint listen sooner rather than later...
Krist love him, Dave was just a friend, thats all
He has ALWAYS made sure to honor Kurt, selflessly. Hes a true friend..and extremely thoughtful man.
I think it's a bit heartless to say that either of them miss him the most, people simply cope with loss and are affected by it in different ways.
100% truth..
That is the Krist we know and love at the end! It is nice to see him crack a joke for once and have a big smile on his face. Krist should know that even in death, Kurt will ALWAYS be with him. That was hilarious at the end. It put a smile on everyone's face.
I’m pretty confident I ran into him once on public transportation. It could have been someone pulling my leg, but I’m pretty confident it was him. For me, it was like winning the music lottery in that I have been a huge Nirvana fan for decades.
I introduced myself, and I asked if it was him. He said yes but didn’t say much else other than to ask my name. I told him how much the music meant to me. My last glimpse of him was smiling in my direction as I boarded my train.
I really hope it was real because I certainly felt it to be. Such an amazing and talented artist.
"Always be with you" is a hard concept for people when times come and that person is gone and you don't feel, at all, like they are with you. Some people don't respond to that.
The last 15 seconds of this make this video. Took me back to the old interviews
Couldn't agree more man!
theres somebody missing though?.
I know right, could picture Kurt in the middle chuckling
YES
SO MUCH THIS!!! Krist would often take the reigns in those early interviews--with hilarious results. He was so funny, with his absurdist references, and quick wit. This exchange, in particular, made me feel real warm, inside
Fucking love Dave and krist
Krist is the funnybone in this group. Always great sense of humor
Krist has a dry sense of humor - Dave is the class clown
@@P121463S yeah but I mean like you watch interviews from before Kurt died and krist is just goofing off the whole time I guess it happened with age and living with his best friend committing suicide
Jon Stewart is such a great host, he asks sensible questions and leaves Dave and Krist to answer and converse naturally. Love this
He's a wonderful host
Novoselic seems lika such the nicest guy
Krist getting back to his old self again
the old krist is still in him, he's just gotta wear his adult pants all the time now
slowly
He’s able to banter a bit, have a joke at Dave off to trade school lol!
I love Nirvana.Wish Kurt was still alive..
Me too. World would be a better place
When i was 12 in 1992, i went from being a mullet wearing bog to hearing Nevermind for the 1st time and just thinking, "WTF!!!!...this is the shit!". Music was changed forever. Nirvana were still my fave band just over 2 years later when Kurt died, and still are today. Nothing will surpass the greatness of this band.
From the time 'Nevermind' was a hit until Kurt died, it was only 27 months. That is not very long. And yet, what an impact they made.
Nevermind was released on 24 Sep 1991. Kurt died on 5 April 1994. That's 30 months and 12 days.
It hit #1 in January ‘92. Maybe that’s what he’s referring to
Wow never saw that in terms of months... It's not a lot but wow the world changed because of these guys.
C'mon, Krist aged very well! He kept his great sense of humour, got away from the music business circus, contributes to political awareness and is a «hobby farmer»!
Love the beard and the quiet look. He totally contributes to Nirvana's dignity. Hell yeah!
i wonder if Kurt wouldve grown a beard with them XD
Haha probably since he had a bit of one at various points. Plus when you get older a lot of times you do it just to do it lol.
He had one when he died so he probably would
Nirvana were one of the funniest bands in inverviews. Effortlessly funny and cool.
Dave looks so good for his age!!! I also think he looks better with a beard.
We had pop music revolutions in the 50's, the 60's, and the 90's. It's been 20 years since anything exciting as Nirvana has happened. It's time for another revolution.
I still watch this from time to time and remember when I first watched it. Always get a good smile and laugh from the underwater welding bit. Krist definitely bringing back some old school humor there from the old days. Kurt could have added to that joke and embellish more easily.
Just imagine if Dave, when he was at that crossroads moment, had decided to abandon his rock & roll dream and gone the safe route instead and actually gone to trade school to become an underwater welder!
Es tan lindo verlos juntos otra vez... todas las veces que sea posible... se nota cuanto lo quiere Dave a Krist... es un poco un hermano mayor... y cuanto extraña Krist a Kurt...
Krist is being a bit goofy again, i'm glad.
“ So you decided to go to school” bruh lmao 😆😆😆
Krist is still funny as hell
What an amazing band Nirvana were not just for there music but the fact that they were just cool guys who had no 'Rock Star' ego stuff going on and never compromised what they believed in.. I can't imagine there's ever be a band like them again.
who could have possibly imagined that the drummer from scream would be one of the best drummerrs ever.. mr novoselic and cobain you owe nothing to Dave he is simply the real top man.
Is it just me, or does Dave start acting again like the quiet and shy kid he was during Nirvana's time whenever he and Krist do these things?
This makes my heart beam. I love these guys.
i love what he says about a 3 piece being powerful cuz your stripped down to your minimum. but i think what he says also applies to a 4 piece where one member is just a singer. i like it so much more than having two guitarists or something of that nature
#HumpDay video: Nirvana members talk "Nevermind" with host Jon Stewart
It's amazing Nirvana has stayed relevant all these years after Kurt Cobain's death. This is a good thing. Very important band during the 90's.
Is this interview on DVD, available for sale? I'd buy it.
SiriusXM: Butch wasn't a member of the band -- he just produced the album.
I admire these guys so much.
holy shit Dave did age very well indeed
so cool that they still see eachother and talk//thats great to see
I miss kurt cobain he was such an amazing person 😔
that last part was funny and emotional, its like they just zipped back in time to when they were younger and the banter was just like how it was when they were Nirvana, brilliant
"He should've never done that." Truer words have never been spoken. 😓
Novoselich (original spelling in Croatian: Novoselić, with the accent on the letter "o"). I'm from Croatia, so I know :)
Just saw them on last friday was amazing :) still miss Nirvana :(
Wow. Major fan of these guys but also have been a diehard fan of all Pete Stahl's projects through the years. Really interesting to hear about that moment over the phone.
krists personality is still the same, i love him
I look at krist and im like....what happened to him....then he cracks a simple joke and I go...not a damn thing.
Actually, underwater and pipeline welding is very, very lucrative.
It's funny to me because I had a teacher that told us there's a lot of money in under water welding 🤣 guess it's a popular thing to tell kids in school
Krist is a good man. I kind of heart him.
Krist is such a great guy
Dave Grohl is right when he says about 3 pieces band, he and Krist have to be powerful in added up rhythms.. That's why Krist play with pick/plectrum
Need to see all of this NOW!!!!!!
have i seen krist at the airport? makes me wonder he seems like someone you would see and not recognize right away
I'm pretty sure his height would be a dead giveaway
You dudes have no idea how important you were to my 14 year old 9th grade 1991 Christmas vacation. My best friend was in the teen spirit video. B4 you I knew of poison because of cc brother my uncle George. But you were rad
We need to listen you again together !!!!
Krist, you're awesome!
Compared to old interviews, Krist is so quiet :O
3:30 😂 krist is so funny
Someone said it best In another video regarding Krists appearance now
"Krist looking like he wants to tell you about how much he loves My pillow"
at 2:54 krist says "the landlord" which instantly reminded me of some 80s Nirvana demo tape where he kept singing "the landlord is a piece of s#@! from hell!"
It's nice seeing them laughing and joking bring themselves. Wishing Kurt was there laughing too...)':
They are a bad ass rhythm section
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRIST
Dave looks so young, Krist, looks like 2x older
3:42 that's actually true. Very cool interview!
God, when they laugh at the same time I swear I hear a chorus of angels
I mean the first "o". His parents emigrated from Croatia (then part of Yugoslavia) to the US, think it was in the 70s, from the town/village Bibinje (not 100% on that one) near Zadar, which is on the Adriatic coast.
This is what i am talking about too... He changed. He is so serious and sad
its called growing up
We want the complete interview
There's a lot of money in underwater welding. 👏😂
need more just put the entire thing on utube everybody want to see it
dave is handsome as ever
Wtf Sirius xm wheres the whole interview?
Damnit sirius! Cant you upload the whole thing? I physically NEED to see this!!
Dave's such a great guy.
That story, bit, about the landlord taking the front door off the house..... all I can think is "Yep. That sounds like the crazy shit I've seen, heard and known people to do here in California".
“You gotta do what’s best for you” “thanks mom”
"So he return to school" hahahaha
Krist is awesome!
amazing song makers
Great video, I miss nirvana
Taking the front door off the house has to be the most passive/aggressive move a landlord can make.
Krist and kurt was the same person..two Brothers...Kurt pass away and Krist remembering the nights under a bridge and their Dreams before Came true lost his smile and dave cant understand this thing...him and kurt went from mudd to stars...how much They missing me fuck!
Dave's my hero
Is the entire 2 hour thing available anywhere to watch? Can I watch it if I sign up for Sirius?
Krist should do stand-up comedy
Krist and Dave rock
its 2013 nirvana split in 94 so its close to 20
There really is a lot of money in underwater welding. Haha
When i see Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl together on TV, I think of Ed McMann and Johnny Carson.
Three pieces..... the best thing, for me 🤟
@timbo177 i think what he is trying to say is that back in the early 90s late 80s, musicians didnt rely on auto tune like they do today! i mean every modern band/singer i have heard live these days sucks! (except for the Foo Fighters and some other good rock bands from the 90s) you know that Kurt was an amazing singer because he sounds the same live! thats what i love about him and Grohl.
I Really Really Really wanna se this thing in its entirety
Krist looks like a white Uncle Phil lol
krist is hilarious.
I love how Krist looks like a St. Bernard now.
what the heck is krist doing nowadays??
He heards goats :(
Brent Hinds He's in a band now
Brent Hinds all of the above I think… he has a Twitter
He finally decided to start playing basketball.☺
@Z damn shame
It was actually closer to 30 years ago.
@BloodEndorphin Well said. I feel the same way.
@bloodendorphin I hate to break it to you buddy but things were exactly the same back then. Instead of Justin Bieber it was NKOTB.
yeah....i miss u...kris
Has anyone noticed that there all wearing the same shoes! 😆
If you could only choose one drum set which would it bee?
Krist is beautiful
Dave has The Foos and all his side projects, why the hell don't these two get together and form a band/do an album?
Well, it’s probably tough for them considering Kurt passed away and the media would think that’s a reincarnation of nirvana. Dave wanted Krist to be in Foo fighters however both decided not to.
that last joke reminded me of the shit they talked on stage haha
