You can tell that the interviewer is actually enjoying the interview, and not just trying to get through it and treat it as just another job. It's so fascinating to see two people have a conversation about something that we all kind of connect to, and it's just so cool to see both of them enjoying the conversation.
Yeah but in this interview I think he enjoys talking about Kurt and Nirvana...you can see. He seems more free from that pain...In other interviews he seems quite uncomfortable, it also has to do with the way the interviewer aske questions ...this interviewer was very respectful, seems more like a fan that a interviewer...not only a fan of Nirvana but a fan of Grohl himself. Great interview
@Chuck Holmes Wrong, Kurt and Tobi Vail dated shortly in July of 1990, before he and Courtney were a thing. Furthermore, Kathleen Hannah wrote, "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit" on a wall, and that's where Kurt got the idea. He didn't realize it was a deodorant.
I still remember running home after I bought it, throwing it in the cd player and being so blown away and happy, that in a way, Nirvana wasn't over. I was 15.
"Easy + Target" and "Exhausted" almost became Nirvana songs, Kurt really liked a few of them but didn't want to ask if he could alter the lyrics. Interesting to imagine.
I was lucky enough to see Nirvana when they played the Queen Margaret Union at Glasgow University in 1991. When Kurt died i thought it was the end but when Dave Grohl founded the Foo Fighters and the first album came out i knew they were going to be huge and their music had been the biggest influence on me.
For those who want to see that underground studio Dave mentions, look up the Seattle episode of "Sonic Highways" trust me, that's a MUST-WATCH episode.
Love Dave Grohl. He's such an insightful, talented, funny dude, my biggest influence as a musician. Also kudos to Matt Wilkinson, I thought those were all great questions, well done.
I remember hearing on the radio that the drummer from Nirvana had a new band with an album coming out. I thought ughhh, this will probably suck, especially in the wake of everything Nirvana had created. And then I heard that first Foo’s album and was like holy f*&k! Grohl!!!🤘
I took my 14 yr old son in 95 to an all ages show on this tour at a club in Providence,RI. I found the tshirt I bought that night today . Still In good shape and fits . It is ironic I came upon this today
I know that everyone here's a big Foo Fighters fan, I frankly am not and came to listen to what he had to say about Kurt and its so cool to hear him talk about all that. Dave Grohl is such a great guy I have to revisit some Foo Fighters.
Can believe it's 25 years since the 1st FF album. I remember it coming out, I love the sound of the record and of course the songs, particularly This Is A Call and Alone And Easy Target, think they're my favourite two on there.
I remember seeing foos at ozzfest milton keyes, they were second on the bill, everybody were getting apprehensive setting fires and cheering, he turned around and said hang on we haven't finished the song yet as we were cheering the fires, roll on he headlined milton keyes later had roger tayler and alice cooper do a oncore case dismissed. Great stuff all of it.
Nirvana is the band of my life. Kurt, Krist, Dave and Pat after, became my idols. I have a Foo Fighters tattoo, was my first by the way. I can't express with words my admiration for David Eric Grohl. Thanko you, Dave, for the music. Changed my life forever.
I am glad that he found quality musicians that he gets along with in the foo fighters, but I wish he would bless us with another solo album like the first one!
Is this the whole interview? Would love a link to the rest if there is more. Always appreciate the honesty from Dave in interviews. Thanks for posting.
Wow I actually remember that day really well, our family was in Michigan, being from Canada it was always a cool trip to go over and visit our parents friends for a few days. We went to a music store and there it was Foo Fighters, my brother bought it. We listened to it,me hoping for Nirvana 2.0 even though I wasnt a hardcore Nirvana fan or anything, hearing Dave was starting a new band I was kind of hoping for a continuation of it... and was disappointed after realizing it wasnt. But my brother loved it and I did like their main song but that was about it. Then years later i keep hearing them on the radio, hit after hit just loving it and sort of surprised it was Foo Fighters everytime, they werent like I thought they'd be but they turned out even better. Gongrats. Kurt would be amazed, and Foo Fighters might never have happened had he decied not to leave, so I give him some credit for Foo Fighters as well, he definitely had a good eye.
The album is still raw, 25 years later. You can hear how Dave arranges his melodies and plays guitar like a drummer. Its something Bonham & Page exchanged quite often.🎸🎵🎶🎼👍😃
I just dreamed about you today DAVE GROHL and when the dream was through...I just woke up with a strange sensation of joy and shy happiness...oh mt GOD it was such a beatiful moment..love you Dave ❤
I agree that they're good questions but a few of them sound pretty recycled and plenty of people have asked pretty much the same questions before (for example, the one about the 8 month period from Kurt's death to rumours of new music). Still an interesting interview nonetheless.
25 years? Man time flies....I was twenty at the time. Looking back now maybe the best time I had with all grunge bands. But Nirvana was the biggest s*** at the time. And then kurt passed away and I changed my life completely. Move to another country, new music, new friends
What were they doing 25 years ago around this time? Then-recently finished the tour with Mike Watt and Hovercraft. The album was put out, then they'd went out on tour with Wool and Shudder To Think. I'd seen them in Cincinnati that August, which Dave claimed it was the second performance of My Hero. Goldsmith was on fire that evening. They ended with Exhausted or Down In The Park - I forget which.
Such an awesome interview. 25 years, wow, time really does fly. Thank you my beautiful son Adam Steininger for turning me on to the Foo Fighters! Love you Dave! Meeting you is #1 on my bucket list!🥰💞
THIS was first album i bought on first day of release. and one or the first on cd. still one of my top 5 favorite albums. its still my favorite foo album
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant interview, Matt Wilkinson! Best ever made to dave Grohl in my opinion. You caught him on a series of matters he have never really approached that way, and you helped touching these matters with a degree of truth anyone can really grasp from this piece of journalism. Absolutely brilliant, perfect, respectful and slightly irrespecutful at the same time in order to get something new from him and also getting some different taste of the already know stuff. Really how a smart interviewer should work.
This reporter is really really good. He asks the right questions the RIGHT way and he does a very good job of not being nosey and stepping on anyone's shoes. Props to him, congrats to Dave, and forever RIP to Kurt.
Dave Grohl making music, pushing himself to be the best he can be is him making sense of Kurt's death. Grohl could've sunk into depression or succeeded and he succeeded you have to respect that.
I felt a little annoyed for Dave because I've heard him answer that question dozens of times before. But Nirvana changed music so it comes with the territory i suppose.
I watched the foos at reading 95 first appearance in UK then again in 2018 in London , feel I have grown up listening to them , remember the guys I was with at reading I was like the nirvana drummer has a new band lets go watch , they were like nah we are off to see Bjork she is hot . Rest is history love all the album's but the first two represent a love of the band I still have today .
If you are a kid right now in time and you got into nirvana you probably got a little emo in that cobain vibe then you get into foo fighters and you start walking around like the big me music video
You can tell that the interviewer is actually enjoying the interview, and not just trying to get through it and treat it as just another job. It's so fascinating to see two people have a conversation about something that we all kind of connect to, and it's just so cool to see both of them enjoying the conversation.
Besides all that 🌬coolness
The Interviewer is fukkking Eye Candy👁🍭🍬🍫🍬🍭🍫🍭
I wish this was 2 hours longer
There is a half hour version on Apple Music.
A Dave Grohl interview where Kurt isn't mentioned is rarer than the fountain of youth
Much like a Beatles interview or Paul’s interview where John Lennon isn’t mentioned....
This album changed my life... can’t believe is 25 already...
Changed your life? From what to what? 😆😆😆
I don't believe Kurt would get rid of Dave, he was the secret weapon of Nirvana.
I think he may have switched out Dave but then brought him back eventually... At some point.
Nirvana became huge just after Dave was in... I don´t believe they could do a transition from a "underground" band, to mainstream without him.
If it was not for Dave nirvana would have never been as big
Chuck Holmes the song was before courtney bud
I still remember running home after I bought it, throwing it in the cd player and being so blown away and happy, that in a way, Nirvana wasn't over. I was 15.
"Easy + Target" and "Exhausted" almost became Nirvana songs, Kurt really liked a few of them but didn't want to ask if he could alter the lyrics. Interesting to imagine.
Exhausted could’ve been big
Assumption Assumption
*Alone + Easy Target
@@faridjabba Don't say that, we're all in it together. Hang in there my friend.
"Exhausted" was perfect for Nirvana.
This hits so much deeper after Taylor's passing. I hope him and the rest of the band are doing well, healing.

Impressed with the interviewer! Well researched and thoughtful questions. Nice work my dude
First heard “This is a Call” on the radio .. been on board ever since!!!
I bought the TAPE 25 years ago the day it was released ...without knowing what theyd sound like ........ and it was 1 of the best albums of its time ,
wow- this gave a pretty decent insight into nirvana after kurt's death that I've been curious about for a long time. good interview
Love Dave Grohl. He's such an insightful, talented, funny dude, my biggest influence as a musician. Also kudos to Matt Wilkinson, I thought those were all great questions, well done.
25 years and still one of the best albums ever
No matter what learn to fly will always be my favourite song! Take care guys
That's my least favorite of theirs, but it's on what I consider their best album - There Is Nothing Left To Lose.
@Chuck Holmes Flafla flofly.
Make my way back home when I learn to fly
That first album was raw and outstanding. A snapshot of Dave's talent in its purest form.
Good stuff! I realized half way thru that I had the same grin on my face as the interviewer. Listening to Dave always puts me in a good mood.
I remember hearing on the radio that the drummer from Nirvana had a new band with an album coming out. I thought ughhh, this will probably suck, especially in the wake of everything Nirvana had created. And then I heard that first Foo’s album and was like holy f*&k! Grohl!!!🤘

The first foos record is by far my favourite album from them. The songs are so good, though I love all the early records. Good Greif
Ozzfest 98! I was there too! Remember therapy coming on instead of Korn? That went down well 😂
@@am3ient Oh yeah didn't Korn cancel because someones wife was in labor?
Nirvana is the band of my life. Kurt, Krist, Dave and Pat after, became my idols. I have a Foo Fighters tattoo, was my first by the way. I can't express with words my admiration for David Eric Grohl. Thanko you, Dave, for the music. Changed my life forever.
Man, I love hearing Dave's stories...wish this interview were longer.
I am glad that he found quality musicians that he gets along with in the foo fighters, but I wish he would bless us with another solo album like the first one!

Wow very candid interview. Dave Grohl so open and relaxed here was a pleasure to listen to this. Thanks!
Wow It feels like yesterday when I discovered the foo fighters!!! Wow I am such a huge fan and I really hope a new album comes out!!!!!
The album is still raw, 25 years later. You can hear how Dave arranges his melodies and plays guitar like a drummer. Its something Bonham & Page exchanged quite often.🎸🎵🎶🎼👍😃
this interview was timeline gold. ❤️
I just dreamed about you today DAVE GROHL and when the dream was through...I just woke up with a strange sensation of joy and shy happiness...oh mt GOD it was such a beatiful moment..love you Dave ❤
OMG what a great interview
My favorite Foo Fighters album
Who's the interviewer? Best questions for a music interview I've watched in a long time.
I agree that they're good questions but a few of them sound pretty recycled and plenty of people have asked pretty much the same questions before (for example, the one about the 8 month period from Kurt's death to rumours of new music). Still an interesting interview nonetheless.
Arthur Ace, yes!
25 years? Man time flies....I was twenty at the time. Looking back now maybe the best time I had with all grunge bands. But Nirvana was the biggest s*** at the time. And then kurt passed away and I changed my life completely. Move to another country, new music, new friends
man, this is so good. the interviewer is as much as a fan of the debut as us!
The first album is still the best. It's amazing, raw and great quirky riffs and awesome drums. Wish they would do more like it.
What were they doing 25 years ago around this time? Then-recently finished the tour with Mike Watt and Hovercraft. The album was put out, then they'd went out on tour with Wool and Shudder To Think. Foo fighters awesome 25 years on🤘🎸🤘☺
THIS was first album i bought on first day of release. and one or the first on cd. still one of my top 5 favorite albums. its still my favorite foo album
Some of the greatest craziest music ever this man has been involved with . Awesome love Dave

I always felt bad for krist. He never seemed like he fully got over kurts death. Underrated bassist as well.
Krist knew Kurt longer and has stayed in Washington where I would think it is harder to “escape”. Agree nice bass player
Dave is one of the coolest musicians ever. Great interview.
The first Foo Fighters record is the best
This is a great interview! Thanks for sharing!
So glad you continued to play and form such a amazing band😉😊😎😍 The Foos are my favorite 😉Love you Dave
I’ll stick around and big me are my favorite songs of that album
Love this style of interview
Great interview
I love him! I love Foo Fighters, I love Nirvana, I still miss Kurt!
I really enjoyed this interview, it motivates me to play even though I'm not in band now.
Excellent thanks
I love Dave’s smile 🤩
Thank you for your phenomenal music, DG 💜
This reporter is really really good. He asks the right questions the RIGHT way and he does a very good job of not being nosey and stepping on anyone's shoes. Props to him, congrats to Dave, and forever RIP to Kurt.
Dave love your songs in foo fighter you where the drummer of Nirvana that's awesome
WOW!!Felicitaciones por los 25 Aniversario" y que sean por 40 mas Dave Grohl🤓,Gracias por compartir este reportaje,Que alegria me dio ver esta nota💪
Dave looks like my step mom with those glasses
I love dave man so happy that he created great music
Love that the first album came out on my birthday
This was nice. Thanks guys.
we want the unedited version!
I feel like I'm watching Dave's therapy session rather than an interview, lol.
Dave Grohl is my spirit animal
I was in Southern California, about to start my senior year of high school.
We love you Dave ❤️
Love this guy!
Dave Grohl making music, pushing himself to be the best he can be is him making sense of Kurt's death. Grohl could've sunk into depression or succeeded and he succeeded you have to respect that.
Best Album from Foos..Exhausted is a brilliant song.
props to Dave patiently talking the same stuff about post Nirvana and Kurt Cobain's death almost... how many... 30 years?? wow
Will be 27 years since Kurt died in April gonna feel odd because he died when he was 27
I felt a little annoyed for Dave because I've heard him answer that question dozens of times before. But Nirvana changed music so it comes with the territory i suppose.
It's something very big about not just his career but his personal life, will always be a topic
Great interview ! Refreshing to see an interview that is not cringeworthy
Sooo pumped fore the next release!!!!
He’s getting so grey. In my head he’s so young
Wish this was longer
The only way to record is in the moment that’s how you get the feeling in the song
Great interview.
Our band plays "Big Me" as one of our few covers! I love that Dave had the courage to release that album that started it all.
I wish you could come to Germany more
Happy 25th Anniversary!!!
💖💖💖💖💖💖
Dave looks like he blasts loud music from his chopper 🛵
Oh George and Headwires are their best 2 songs
I watched the foos at reading 95 first appearance in UK then again in 2018 in London , feel I have grown up listening to them , remember the guys I was with at reading I was like the nirvana drummer has a new band lets go watch , they were like nah we are off to see Bjork she is hot . Man we got old!! 25 year old foo fighters
My first concert was Foo Fighters in September or October of 1995.
The last few weeks, I have seriously been having withdrawals. You f Rock. 🤘🏼
Great interviewer!
I love Dave!!!
Imagine the songs Kurt and Dave would have written together
Ahhh Dave. Such a gorgeous genius 💜⚘
Ive been a fan since. Such a raw album still love it
The correct word to describe the foo fighters sound is optimistic.
Is there a version without the cuts/edits?
If you are a kid right now in time and you got into nirvana you probably got a little emo in that cobain vibe then you get into foo fighters and you start walking around like the big me music video
Dave Grohl is such a sympathetic guy, down to earth cool guy 😎👍
Great interview and the interviewer is super cute
i really hope they re release pocketwatch!!!!!!
Foos Forever ♥️🥰😘
