Bors would be cool, but having Zabriel become a model would be cooler because he’s one of the very first marines ever made as well as the first DA the lion met when he came back

I've mentioned before, but the Lion and the Risen really should get their own version of the Dark Imperium series. In my humble opinion the Dark Imperium books were a real good series, and a similar 2-3 book arc could really flash out the new dynamics in the Dark Angels.
The new companions are just Watchers in power armor... pretty certain it's like 8-10 Watchers per suit
I think companions will be anyone the lion chooses to join. Both Risen and Unforgiven. Could be a way for the lion to smooth things over by having an elite guard of intermingle risen and unforgiven
You need to remember, that when Borz put his hand on Azrael, Azrael wanted to shun his hand with disgust, but what he heard - "Duty is it's own reward, Supreme Grand Master. He reminded us. He expects no less from you." stayed his hand. And while Azrael was suspicious, he didn't doubt that the Risen followed the Lion and he didn't doubt their loyalty to him. He didn't even think of them as fallen, they just reminded him of them.
That's why I think Azrael will have no problem with getting used to them.
He will have to accept that not all Fallen are actual traitors and that neither Lion nor the DA who were on Caliban when the battle started where without fault.

It's possible that the Lion will slowly focus his Sons' attention to protecting the Imperium, and he will concern himself with dealing with any true Dark Angels traitors. This will definitely expand the lore, for future novels and battle campaigns.
what if the Lion is now a traitor? he's come back and started folding the fallen back in, maybe to take over the loyalists remaining? what if he's the next horus?

@Finch91 the new lore says "no", the Lion isn't a traitor. I am wondering what will happen to Luther, should the Lion gets him. Will he forgive him, and those that followed him. The Lion definitely believes that his Legion will save the Imperium. But will Guilliman allow the first Legion to fight in force, together. Will Chaos find a way to divide the brothers over this?
Well, in the end, it's all easily manageable. The DA are a chapter, within circles within circles. So to add another circle by the Lion is pretty diagestable fot the chapter. Shurely some more secrets might startle some DA, but in the end, the chapter is used to it by now.
The inner circle companions are redeemed by the lion and for the rest of the chapter chosen protectors for the chapsters most important leaders and champions.
I doubt the lion will try to unify/justify any of the unforgiven actions and history. The Lion might have become wiser but nonetheless he is pragmatic. So anything that might lead to turmoil will be pushed back and saved for a time when needed/necessary.
Now go and disperse and do your duty. For the Lion!

It says a lot about what he knows and what the chapter allows I think.
With the return of the Risen , I am very curious as to where Cypher story-arc will come in to play... Could he be Zahariel , possibly Alpharius Omegon or maybe even the famed Corswain. Will Cypher continue on or will he finally meet the Lion ??
Already got my Deathwing Assault on hold for when it gets released . I just hope that my older Deathwing will still look ok beside the new sculpts
I would love to see an updated Cypher model with the new risen color scheme. I feel that the lion will expect his marines to get in line and move forward with the greater threat to the imperium.

there is a kinda new cypher model. came out when guillaman came back.
@Kailynn-wy2th Yes, Cypher does have a newer model from 2018. However, it is a chaos model with chaos iconography.

What I want in the new codex:
Several pages of new lore talking qbout the Lion (meeting Guilliman), the Redeemed and stuff like that.
What I more realistically would settle for:
Several paragraphs of new lore about above.
What I honestly expect:
Several sentences of new lore, enough to make a paragraph or two if lucky, surrounded by lots of old lore.
and they'll give you old lore with stuff missing just like the 9th ed codex.
I think all models moving forward will be "primaris sized", the era of the 1st born is done. All they could do in the lore is have chapters completely reject the addition of the extra implants and continue making marines the old way. Some chapters probably will do this, Black Templars as an example. But other chapters have embraced it, if only out of necessity, like the Crimson Fists. Either way, as the lore advances, 1st born marines will die in battle and be replaced by primaris in growing numbers.

@@BloodyArchangelus I don't hate primaris, my army is almost exclusively primaris models, with the exception of my Pedro Kantor. Making unfounded assumptions about people is pretty ignorant.
BT as a whole have accepted them because Helbrecht’s ordered them to. One odd crusade acted before they received those orders and got wiped out in any case.

To be honest I think it makes sense if the leaders of the dark angels who are in the inner circle know, and they have seen the risen as different to the "true fallen" who asmodai hunts
If the Lion got hold of the Inner Circle - including those in the successor chapters - and explained it how’s it gonna be and why, they’d ultimately accept it.
I hope the Lion is going to stop the DA keeping more and more secrets from each other and the Imperium at large.
Next we need to see how the Lion is going to help out the Imperium on a wider scale, particularly since he can’t as yet cross the rift in force.
I have this mental image of the Lion getting back to The Rock with his boys, taking a knee and asking them for forgiveness.

Borz went to fight Angron after relieving Azrael & co during Arks of Omen…Zabriel I’m not too sure as his story is stuck at the end of Lion SOTF. I’m led to believe he is the Lion’s equerry, going into the galaxy looking for more Risen…. Further more into that fact - Arks of Omen Lion has a page dedicated to 6 Risen including Borz and Zabriel……hexagrammaton much 🧐

My head cannon for now says that they didn't die, probably badly wounded have crossed the rubicon and fight on as supposedly new brothers carrying the name of there officially dead brethren 😮
I would like 1-3 books about the Dark Angels after the Lion came back. Also to see the view of the Risen. That at first they are glad being redeemed and return to the place they belong to. Then they see, especially at the start, what Luther saw over all these years being imprisoned, how deep the Dark Angels have fallen (pun intended) and how far their fear of being discovered has driven them.
That Lion sometimes talks to them and he himself also discovers these problems and he starts to slowly turn his chapter and their followers over.
And I really want to see how the successors and Guilliman react to him.

If these Companions are Risen that have crossed the Rucbicon Primaris, I wonder how many have just died. Why would they immediately chance death after finally reuniting after 300 (relative by perspective) years? I believe Azrael’s death was avoided only by intercession of a Watcher. Or, if the success rate is so high, why have not all the DA changed?

The Lion probably put the companions with high ranking members so they can find out which Fallen can be redeemed to Risen before they are executed.
Risen accompanying Asmodai are not to protect him from the Fallen, they're to protect the Fallen from Asmodai "making him repent" on the spot.

I think the Dark Angels will go back to their original purpose: The absolute extinction of the enemies of the Imperium, to erase them from the Galaxy in such a manner that barely legends whisper about them.
Some claim that it was Russ and the Wolves that took out the Second and Eleventh legions and Primarchs. They would be incorrect, that while Russ is the Emperor's Executioner, the Lion is the Eliminator.
Ahhhh whatever the Lion says goes. The DA will do what they're told.
Too many comments to read but when the Lore for Asmodai was put out with his model release article it says that he deals with the fallen unwilling to accept the repentance given by the Lion. Seems like he is aware of it all.
Lion: I offer you a choice: prove your loyalty to me, or...

DA characters are usually the ones who make the final capture of any fallen their forces are pursuing. It would make sense that the Lion would plant risen among them to instantly evaluate them for potential risen status

Someone's not a Dark Angels fan :D "Someone's gonna ask questions" ... That's not the Inner Circle way. Asking questions in the Dark Angels is a good way to get to know your Interrogator-Chaplain on a close and regular basis.

Sadly in the Lion's guard Box are "normal" Bladeguard Marines and not the newer inner circle companions.
It's just another level on the pyramid of secrecy within the Unforgiven. Only the Inner Circles of each Chapter know ( in various degrees ) that the Fallen even exist. So it's just another step of revelations within Inner Circle ranks. Business as usual.
Maybe crossing the Rubicon Primaris is part of the redemption of the Risen?

They're based on the same-ish armour as Blade Guard, Stern Guard and BT Sword Brethren I assume more out of practicality on GW's part. As for the lore I assume the lion just slid their names into the books to get them next in line or had it done outside of the normal pipeline.
Just look at the guy with the incense, pretty much the exact same pose as the Judiciar, even the way he holds his sword.

These should have been released with the Lion instead of the Bladeguard Veterans. We have been kind of left hanging with what's going on with the Lion his return after the book. How's the first meeting between the Lion and Rob going to go down since his return? What's the Lions position in the Empire going to be Lord Commander? What's he going to tell his sons, who's he going to tell if a how much of it is going to be "need to know". Is Pappa Lion going to tell his sons the returned he says are loyal are good to go now rub one out and get over it and the fallen he doesn't kill on the spot he gives to the interrogator chaplains.

Biggest pointer to them being risen is the term calibanite greatswords. For them to have swords from Caliban, they must have been on Caliban, surely?
I do like the thematic idea of the risen going through a purity ceremony while becoming primaris. Almost like cleansing the “corruption” or sin. Also fits into the plot line that DA have the purest gene seed.

Thank you for your comments about the Dark Angels. Looking forward to the box myself and hoping we get some answers between now and then. I also love how these deathwing look and also the new companions. They have me wondering if Asmodi and the rest of the interrogator-Chaplins are soon to be, if not already out of a job due to the Lion's statement.

Between the lore of the lion novel and the arks of omen, it's known that the lion is calling all of his gene seed sons that was lost through the incident of caliban that scattered them in time warp.

I feel the Lion will shake up the organisation of his chapters. He'll work with the higher echelons of command to change their directives concerning the fallen, each unforgiven chapter will have Risen integrated into their Inner-Circle reviving codes and ranks of old.
Can't wait to get those new Companions.
Are they actual bodyguards for the characters? It kind of makes sense to put redeemed traitors there because the characters watch over them and also they prove their loyalty by giving up their lives in protection.
First born marines from the time of the Crusade are taller than the later Astartes of the 41st millennium. In the Dark Vengeance book it was said that the Fallen Angel they encountered was almost as tall as a marine in Terminator plate.
More foil to the pile here, could this lead to Cypher returning with a hero arc and secrets galore?
Given what’s happening with Zahariel on Terra, as Cypher, as well as the bit in the Luther book, which states that the last anyone saw Corswain was fighting against the Lord Cypher on Caliban, my gut still tells me that Corswain won that fight, but that he and the defeated Zahariel were sucked up and scattered by the warp, like the rest of the fallen, and current day Cypher is either Corswain, or a warp-melded amalgamation of Corswain and Zahariel.
I'll lose my shit if Zahariel returns as a risen, he's such a cool boy and they should let him reach into enemies on tabletop with terrorsight

The companions are there to keep members of the inner circle in check and prevent rebellion. The Lion has always had trust issues and will be keen not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Remember that lore wise the fracturing of Caliban is a recent event to someone who has been 'asleep' for 10k years.
Well to be honest, not consider the Memes, the unforgivens knows what are true matters to be Imperium's best interest and Loyal to their duty given by the Emperor , not mention it's Lion their Father tells them to do so ...

These DA comming with the Lion were never Chaos SM. They've always stayed loyal to the Empire and Caliban. In the novel, The Lion speaks with them, and learns the truth about them. They don't need to be forgiven as they never were traitors. He accepts them. In some way, both the Lion, and his new companions, forgive each other.
Yeah, "Traitor" and "Chaos" marines are very different. Especially with DA, and how they're only traitors because they thought that Lion became a traitor.
Hopefully Sammael and Ezekiel also get some model updates.
Plus we are still Missing Luther and his Fallen. We might get more Models for the Dark Angels than ever.
I agree that we need some narrative on these guys, cause the lore opportunity with them is just too good to just quietly accept and proceed to ignore
Any word on when necrons are getting new lore? I got the codex and there’s literally nothing in it regarding new lore. The only bit I know is the storm lord and silent king are about to throw down in the piriah nexus
Well, OG Dark Angels are still vastly better than Willyman's Primaris derps.
I don't see the Lion taking any other direction besides incorporating the risen into the ranks of his sons. Based on how they portray the Lion now I think he will not be so welcoming to any objection to the risen being there. He is their sole judge, jury, and executioner. Essentially you put the risen into the current Dark Angels armour and be done with it. No civil war will happen. The ultimate voice of reason and peace will be their gene-father. The interesting thing I want to see is how G-man will react since the Risen coming back will swell the ranks of the 1st legion. I also don't think the Lion will care about the codex. ALSO, sorry for the long thread, I think the risen, or at least some, will cross the rubricon.

I do not understand why they are taking their sweet time updating the other characters. Are they really gonna gonna do Azrael, Belial, and Asmodai, but skip over the ancient af Ezekiel model and Sammael?

Two things: It’s not like the vast majority of The Unforgiven are even aware of the Fallen’s existence.

Rely curious to seeing what becomes of the Risen especially as bringing them into the chapter will certainly swell their ranks beyond Codex compliance.
The Dark Angels will mind wipe everyone, but the inner circle, risen included, and no one will notice.

It feels like a missed opportunity by GW, taking so long to fill out this lore since last spring. Like what's the Lion/Cypher dynamic. Is there a sleeper agent amongst the risen? So many compelling directions they could take it and...nothing

Does anyone else think its odd that they'd give a "bodyguard" unit greatswords? A gun and a 1h sword would make more sense. Personally I think they're there to execute any higher ups that betray the Lion/Imperium.

I like to think the Lion has them in place too to learn more about the dark angel characters honestly. Instead of how they may act because they know their primarch is watching. Lion trusts the Risen but the dark Angels are a bit stuck in there ways
