thank you for this review, I just ordered a copy of the book, I only have a couple of traveler books but this seemed to be a logical addition to my collection, I have the core rulebook and the travelers hand book. 4o yeqrs ago I had the boxed edition of the little black books. Its been one heck of a journey, it nice to look at the book a little while I anm waiting for moine...thanks very much for taking the trouble to post...Peace!
As a grizzled old player who started with the Lbb. 1-3, I have ignored mongoose. I am learning there’s more good material than I thought. My stuff is all Spinward Marches 1100-1105 and I have had to fill in the gaps. This looks helpful.
I am a grizzled old player who started with the LBBs. I thought I didn't need to bother with new stuff. I was very wrong. Some of the new stuff is great!
If you buy the physical copy from Mongoose on their website you get the PDF for free. The price point for the PDF is for people who are not planning on buying the physical product.
That is the point isn’t it? I’m not sure if page121 is aware that the PDF is included in the purchase of the physical book if you buy at the Mongoose site, as with all their Mongoose products now. It s difficult to include a physical product when you have chosen to buy it only electronically.
Yeah, Mongoose is going to have to make that map available separately. I just wish it were dark-background, like the one of the Spinward Marches that came with Starter Traveller.
Decent review that came to about the same conclusion I have regarding the book, though I did order the physical copy already. I just wish Mongoose had the proof reading and editing that GURPS Traveller books did.
Nice review, thank you for this, will pick it up. I only got into traveller 11 years ago with the first edition mongoose stuff and it was very, very hard to find anything that really, deeply detailed the main political bloc in the entire setting. This made things actually difficult when players wanted to know more about the third imperium as it meant alot of googling, researching from very old sources to really understand it - so having it updated and in one place is p massive and is a long time coming. Not just for the players ill also tack on- having to go to all those different, old sources to even get a vague idea how the imperium operates really made getting into the setting hard. Which is a shame because it has a really awesome asimov esque feel thats a good balance between 'realism' and adventure.
@@page121tabletoproleplaying4 seems to be, im excited to get it. The core sectors* always came across as big homogenous blob to me because of being unable to find alot of good subsector data so that also seems very good to me.
Get the new 2021 Mongoose Traveller 2nd edition Corebook. It's printer friendly, has better art, a better character creation flowchart, a good ship character sheet, and better ship map layouts.
The new secrets of the ancients was done by the guy who developed Paranoia and is very linear. I was excited that it came out, but I feel like it was designed for the keeper to tell the players a story in which anything the players do literally makes no difference on the outcome of the story.
We really need more novels set in Traveler.
Cephesus Engine! Best of both worlds!

I did a start collecting Mongoose 2nd video a while ago. You might want to look at that.
Great that you also have a look at new products!

I hope they do.
All mongoose 2nd ed maps are on white background and a thing he did not state or may not know when you buy the book you get the PDF for free with it.
Thanks for the review! I was looking for one and I’ll buy it now.
Excellent!
I only bought the book because it was written by Chris Griffen. I also get his two Core Adventure books.
Great review. I'm really tempted, even though I don't run or play Traveller any more.
It's a great read even if you don't play.
You review was amazing and made me want to buy it so I have bought the physical book and all physical books from mongoose come with the pdf
Yes they do. I think that adds a lot of value to buying directly from Mongoose (and no, I don't work for Mongoose).

Oooohh...I wished I'd find GURPS players.

This book is great for adding detail to the Third Imperium.

Which far future history do you prefer: Traveller or Battletech?
Traveller
I imagine you have learned by now, but if you buy the print book, you get the PDF free.
You mentioned a series of books about the Nobility....can you provide a link?
The Nobles book is available on GURPS Traveller set 1. Here is the link www.farfuture.net/FFE-CDROMs.html
I like the book, but the index is small and there isn't anything that I could find about the ancients.
Valid points.
Have you seen secret of the ancients yet?
@@martinbowman1993 I have the Mongoose 1st edition, but have not bought the 22nd edition.

Thank You for the great Review! Have you ever condicderd to give a intro into Traveller Lore?
I am considering looking at individual aspects of Traveller like psionics, Jump space, the Low Lottery, etc...
