I like that you took the time to acknowledge the fella that gave you the idea for the video & that you’re sending him a little care package. That’s real decent of you. Cheers.

My grandfather taught me to use sand, he travelled a lot and said he used to use nothing but hot sand to scrub and clean out pot and pans and plates. He even said he would cook sand in a cast iron dutch oven to clean out the other pots he had then use the rest to scrub out the dutch oven. He showed me how to do it in the backyard with the sandbox when I was little.
I was excited, my mom was NOT pleased.

For cast iron that is the standard procedure. Sometimes I do that at home even though I have plenty of soap and water.

Thank you for the meal idea! I was wondering what to cook for tomorrow night's dinner, lol!
(Also, quick note for everyone, lye from ashes is alkaline, not acidic. It's easy to get that confused since both acids and bases / alkalines will burn your skin if they're strong enough, and lye can get pretty strong! I remember it because in chemistry class, we discussed how alkaline substances react with lipids in fats to create saponin. We tried making soap using acids and fats, but that didn't work; it had to be alkaline and within a specific category, chemically. (It's been decades, so don't ask me the details, lol.)
It turns out that when you use ashes and hot water inside a greasy pan, a tiny amount of raw soap will form from the water leaching lye out of the ashes, and then mixing with the fats! This is how lye helps get your dishes that much cleaner, though it's nowhere as effective as actual soap.)

I think a lot of people underestimate the capabilities of a well maintained immune system.
In my day-to-day life, I rarely wash my dishes with soap, because if you do them immediately after eating, a sponge and water is enough. Plus, anything that might be on them doesn't have time to grow in the time between meals, at which point the heat will nuke anything on the surfaces. Plus, any germs that do survive are ones from myself, and my body already has antibodies for them.
The only time I do deep cleans with soap is usually once a month, or if I have guests, whichever comes first. I haven't been sick in over 15 years, minus whatever bug hit me for about 3 days in early 2020 (could have been the coof, for all I know).
The really important thing is to wash your hands regularly. I also advise people don't hyper-sterilize their living space; first of all, it ain't natural, and you have some sort of OCD or something needing to be addressed. Second, if you never let your body encounter common bacteria/germs, you will get sick more easily and hit harder as your body has to take time to build up the anti-bodies it should have already had ready to go.
I've noticed when I go camping with friends/family, the ones who live hyper-sterile usually get sick. Something to think about.

Velveeta Skillet meals are also great, similar cheese along with a dried spice mix and one pot cooking (no separate pasta pot). You can also do this with Velveeta mac in the pan (if it's large enough), pour off water, and add the ingredients.
